I won't like it, but if Kelly really is Detroit's #1 target, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he at least goes and interviews and hears what the franchise has to say.

Last year's Eagles interview probably was more of a negotiation tactic. Too early into his new contract to negotiate again (ND won't make the Weis mistake again anytime soon). I doubt he interviews anywhere unless he really wants out, and there aren't any signs pointing that direction IMHO

With the Lions, paying 12 Million for JS to leave it would surprise me if they could offer BK an "offer he can't refuse" and pay for his buyout from ND which I assume is pretty sizable. At least thats what I'm telling myself now....

Sorry if I missed this but can someone post one tweet or article from a credible reporter saying Kelly is going to be targeted by the Lions and that he's interested. Then I will panic along with everyone else.

Edit: rephrased

I agree as far as the ND aspect and Weis mistake, but Saban says hi. He signed and extension last year and then again this year. Which I actually think was less than 12 months apart. And he didn't interview for another job either time. The Texas rumor was enough.

We can't be lucky enough to have a drama free offseason can we?

can a coaches contract have a no contact stipulation in them?

Sure. It's common. Doesn't mean much though-- usually whatever the buyout is (which I know can be a lot, monetarily, but not necessarily much, legally).

BC used this tactic a little while back, firing their coach for interviewing for a job.

“@footballscoop: Mentioned that Bill O’Brien had been contacted by the Lions. Hear from good source that Lions have also reached out to Dungy & Brian Kelly”

That was from 4 days ago. Better than nothing I suppose but not the strongest source considering the Lions had not even played their last game.

Edit: I worded my original post poorly. I'm looking for a source that actually connects Kelly's interest to the Lions with the Lions' interest to Kelly.

I haven't seen any legit sources saying there is anything but a rumor at this time. But it was also rumored that the Lions were reaching out gauging interest prior to the end of the season and firing Schwartz.

speculation based off of previous rumors have led some to the conclusion that a new rumor should be started. :)

Right. We may very well need to panic before the end of the day but let's at least wait until we hear something solid.

What scared me is I can't think of anyone who we could pick up that could keep us on the level we were at. If Kelly does leave it could put us back at 6-6 or worse especially with the schedule we have next year unless we can make one hell of a hire. It just wouldn't be the offseason if we didn't have something to worry about.

Kelly is just about to get his dream offense in South Bend. I gotta think that plays into the decision.

No need to panic. Grab some coffee and enjoy the show. Its free entertainment. Kelly ain't leavin', you can put your money on it.

Diaco now has head coaching experience.

The nfl can steal elite college head coaches, and so can we.

NFC North beat writer didn't mention BK as a potential candidate for the Lions just now on SC FYI

I just don't see anyone will on to leave their elite jobs like stoops, myer, or Sabah leaving what they have. That's my concern we finally have a good coach I'm afraid we get another dud.
