Can we please stop this nonsense. Kelly is not going anywhere. Seems like we like to look for a reason to freak out and melt down.
Wait for ACTUAL EVIDENCE then freak out.

NFL Network was showing a list of candidates for each opening, and I didn't see Kelly's name on any of them. I just don't see it happening.

With so many jobs opening p it could happen, but I'm not worrying about it now... We'll see.

If Kelly leaves, I trust Swarbrick to get a good replacement. There isn't a lack of good coaches in college right now.

I don't think Kelly is leaving though. It's not that he wouldn't want to leave (I think the NFL is his aspiration), but there won't be enough interest in him this year. If we can make the playoffs at 11-1 next year, which I think is very possible, then teams might come calling.

The only thing that makes you wonder about Kelly leaving for the NFL is that they haven't officially named our Defensive Cord yet.

Lol, I ain't try to stop the fun, just the nonsense.

It isn't on Kelly side I'm guessing. Its probably on the Jets side of contracts and figuring out the transition. They said an announcement would be made after Reg season ended. It'll come soon enough.

Perhaps VanGorden is hesitant to sign while BK is in contract talks with Detroit.

He (VanGorder) was supposed to "interview" today. Had to finish up the season with the Jets yesterday.

I am waiting for someone to photoshop a Detroit logo on the side of a jet in South Bend......:)

The guy I like is David Shaw, he just flat out said......I have no desire to leave Palo Alto, have to respect that guy.

I know he has been pretty solid for us the last few years but after this season why would they want him?
We won 9 games all 9 of which I would consider us to have superior talent across most of the board. And we lost to Pitt and Michigan both teams are awful!
We have 1 good win and 2 solid wins.

I hope he stays because I really like him and think the program has trended up since his arrival but he is coaching at one of the elite schools in the nation as far as football goes we would win 9 or more games every year. Its the University of Notre Dame for Christ's sake.

Quiets his troops, reassures his recruits, and strengthens his negotiating position all with one simple sentence.

He actually said he has no desire to pursue another job. Kind of the same thing, but kind of not.

1. The Ford's have a history of being cheap so they will certainly look at the cost of a buyout for Schwartz and the new coach. The new coach won't pay his buyout, the Lions will. That's a pretty steep number for the Ford's when you add all three together.
2. Knowing JS, I can almost guarantee that he sat down with BK last year or earlier this year and discussed the NFL rumors that would come up once again. I feel pretty safe in saying he looked BK in the eye and asked for his commitment if JS committed to him.
3. All is well.

Repeat, rinse, repeat.

At this point I'm wondering if BKs team have notified all those that have called that he's not interested but felt no need to make a public comment on it.

Why would they want him?

Why would the Eagles or any other NFL team?

Like you cody, I don't see it.

Perhaps it's his offensive philosophy. "Call and Haul" suits NFL franchise QBs so well ... if their built like Bobby Douglas. He was exciting but it slips my mind how many titles the Bears didn't win with that attack.

Perhaps it's his defensive philosophy. Aggressive play and turnovers aren't important. Preventing big chunk plays is the way to win. Four quarters of prevent defense on Sundays? Diaco's defense IS Kelly.

Perhaps it's his Special Teams Excellence. Goodman may have a future as a NFL Fair Catch Specialist.

Perhaps it's player development. Kelly did squeeze every ounce of production out of Rees's lesser talents. It's the 5 Star/high draft choice QBs he struggles with. First move would be trade Stafford for two sixth round QBs.

I like Kelly. Best thing for ND FB since Holtz. But like Holtz, I don't see him successful in the NFL. He has a style that suits college FB.

Hell, Saban like Holtz, ran back to college FB. "Schiano to PSU?" is a current headline. Of course what qualified Schiano for the NFL anyway. After 9 years as a HC at Rutgers, his only gig, he was 68-67 with only season with more than 9 wins.

On the other hand many owners have the Dennis Green model implanted in their brains. Green coached 8 seasons at Northwestern and Stanford and only had one winning season.

Based on the press conference, it sounds like the Lions are going to be after a more veteran head coach. Doesn't rule out BK, but sounds more like someone who has been a HC before at the NFL level.

Detroit Lions: Head coach Jim Schwartz has been dismissed. According to Chris Mortensen, some names to watch for the job include Ken Whisenhunt, Jay Gruden, Hugh Jackson, Adam Gase and Lovie Smith.
