I just dont get it. Or at least, not rationally.

According to FBI data, from 2010 to 2011, there were 4906 black people killed by other black people in America.

In 2012, White males were 38% of the US population and committed 4,582 murders. in 2012, Black males were 6.6% of the population and committed 5,531 murders.

Despite being just 13% of the US population, blacks committed 52% of the homicides in America over the last 30 years.

Between 1-1-02 and 12-31-12, an average of 4,472 black men were killed by other black men in the US. During the same years, 112 black men died annually from justified or unjustified police involved killings.

And the problem is the police???? Seems like the house isnt made of just glass but the most fragile glass ever. And rocks are still being thrown

I would show up to the next game and start a USA chant anyway. Ridiculous.
It's close to me but not close enough to attend games. Like an hour away. However, I have 2 high-schoolers. We attend games locally, and if it ever came to that with our school, I'd be leading the charge. No matter how you twist it, chanting 'U.S.A.' isn't racist.

I don't get this. It isn't a binary decision. It isn't lower black on black violence or lower police shootings/excessive force/targeting minorities. We can try to fix them both.

Also there is something different (at least mentally) about the government (in this case police officer) performing the act. Part of it is because when someone else commits murder they usually are pursued and prosecuted for their crimes, but there is the perception that police officers are treated differently (and while that might be changing, it is still significantly more difficult to get a conviction against a police officer) which could be increasing the level of anger that a community might feel.

Not so in Baltimore, Chicago and other cities with large ethnic populations. Murder arrests and convictions are down. Acute lack of witnesses.

The Blacks go by the code of no cooperation with the cops (I'm no snitch) as do the Koreans, Columbians, Mexicans, Haitians, or Chinese. Look at NYC or Chicago in the last century, the Irish claimed O'Bannon was the best florist in town, Italians "Al Who?", nobody on the docks ever heard of Lucky Luciano, the Jews, "Meyer who?"

I didn't see nothin'

... didn't start in 2012.

I have not read through every post, but my question to the original post is whether or not the coworker actually felt this discrimination. Or was this based on information from people of color that he knew or read about. My thinking is with an ND degree he has had some success in his life.

I am not denying there is racism. My experience growing up in So Cal with friends, classmates, and teammates from minority ethnic groups was the ones who pushed themselves and obtained relevant degrees and training (made themselves more valuable) have excelled in life. The ones who chose different paths have not been as successful and are now pointing the finger. This is a small sample, I realize, but we came from a similar background as far as neighborhood, school opportunity through high school years, and plenty of support in our community. It truly amazes how differently these examples see this country yet the minorities in our community were all part of a similar experience growing up.

Absolutely, and I think we can, if we are allowed to address both. I think it's fair to question the current ability to honestly bring those other dynamics to the table without being shouted down or painted as racist.

It is more complicated than that, here is a pretty good article on it

It should be more difficult to obtain a conviction against a police officer. While they may not all uphold it, they take an oath to serve and protect. They selflessly put their lives on the line to protect others, the same can't be said against suspects that commit crimes.

We can fix both, but the media is constantly painting the picture that cops are unjustly targeting black people, racially profiling them, and gunning them down in disproportional numbers to white people. They're entirely focusing on the much smaller of the two problems and helping to drive a wedge further and further between both groups. They're doing far more reporting on cops killing black people, as oppose to black people killing black people or committing other crimes. Yes, there are definitely bad cops out there as well as some decent cops that have fucked up, and fucked up royally. They represent a very small percentage of our overall police force though.

We need to find better ways to reduce the black crime rates, provide opportunities for communities to succeed instead of turning to illegal actions, and to educate people how to respect officers and not do stupid shit that will get you arrested or worse. Obviously the latter isn't going to happen anytime soon because of the extreme distrust each side has for the other. They both have to come to the middle and change, but ultimately black people need to fix themselves and their own community first before any of this is going to get better. As long as kids in inner cities see no way out and begin down the wrong path, it will continue to perpetuate their circle of violence and crime, which in turn brings cops in to try and clean up the situation. This only serves to further destroy any chance for trust and it escalates the conflict between both sides as cops are seen as the "enemy" to their way of life. I mean, lets be honest here. It's typically not black people living in suburbia that these shootings are occuring in, it's in inner cities where communities are already on edge. Clean up the communities, get the kids on the right path for the future, and you'll reduce the crime. Once that happens I think both sides can begin to trust each other and show respect. I honestly don't see it happening though, you're always going to have people in any community that struggle or look for the easy way out.

No but I can tell you about my nephew who has a 4.40 out of 4.0 gpa with a really high ACT score (cant remember the number now but it was really high) who has been in honors class since 7th grade and he can only get a partial scholarship to a crap school like Alabama when I would bet anything you want there are quite a few full ride academic scholarships awarded to minorities with much less academic prowess.

Does that warrant an experience in your book?

If you score a 32 on your ACT, you automatically qualify for a full scholarship to Alabama. I think a 30 score gets tuition paid, and a 28 gets you $1500 a year for four years. If what you state is true about your nephew, then his score probably falls somewhere between the 28-31 range.

Lol. It looks like some pampered suburban school where the kids are the very embodiment of privilege and part of what the original demonstrations were knocking in the first place. Girls were doing it to be trendy, nothing more.

Congratulations on finding yourself but why the italics?

We've known that for years but have refrained from comment out of sensitivity to your desire to remain in the closet until now.

I'll just say this,,.. That kind of behavior is learned... I've had the unfortunate displeasure of working with many who would consider this outcome a job well done.
