My take is the opposite of Mike. I think he loves ND so much and just has battered fan syndrome so he's extremely guarded. I think it's effected him in a way that he only sees things in a negative manner because he's too afraid to see the good and get his hopes up. Just my opinion.

yeah I get your point. I get the impression he longs for the Lou Holtz days though, and he's not a real fan of BK deep down. This means everything he sees from ND football these days is slighted.

He definitely has Lou-goggle on most days.

He's the old school, ground and pound, type.

This is my take on him, and I like it. I don't like when posters/analysts/podcasters accept the current state. I like the ones that are jaded that we're not on OSU/Bama/Clemson's level, and believe that we still are ND and give me reason to believe that we deserve to be at the top.

Lou Symoji is my favorite, just a teddy bear.

its why i liked the OneFootDown podcasts when they would do them in-season. The guts of their staff is guys in their 20's/30's who aren't hung up on the Ara/Lou era's.

If there's anybody who gave me the sense that they hate covering ND, it's Sampson and Prister.

There's a lot of 50 somethings in that category. They saw Ara and Devine as kids, they saw Lou as young adults, they wandered in the wilderness for a decade and a half and then watched CBK get off to a rocky start. But it's hard to bag on CBK now. i used to question his play calling a lot but now that he has his type of players plugged in on O, his play calling is less suspect. Funny how that works out...

I'm going to cancel my 247 sub at the end of this weekend. Will more than likely be picking up an ISD one as well. Looking forward to being a member.

Does ISD have a trial period or anything?

You should sign up now, and see how they compare over the course of a big recruiting weekend.

Not a bad idea, I could look into that later. I'm just done with 247, but your right, that would be a good idea.

Never been a fan of Prister; Sampson I could take or leave him; love Somogyi and have a love hate thing with Mike Frank. like Hansen--but never liked Al Lezar at the SBT.

Al Lesar is about as worthless as you could possibly get. 99% of his articles are based off of his opinion and gives zero to little facts.

So we are all in agreement, then!

I am in my fifties, of course, and I always liked BK. I thought he was like a breath of fresh air.

Of course I was really impressed with Swarbrick, like the way he handled the Monk trash leftovers and such, and liked the way he gave Weis every opportunity to succeed.

I saw the process he went through with coaching candidates, which may have started a little earlier than publically announced, and knew I was going to be okay with whomever he picked.

Maybe one of the differences with me is that I saw a lot of Kelly at CMU and UC, with a good friend a huge fan. We both had each other convinced that Kelly was going to be the next ND coach after his first year at UC.

Watching Kelly, I figured he would have to evolve quite a bit after he got here. Which he has.

I guess I never see only one side to a guy, especially someone in such a defined role as head coach.

The only thing I haven't liked about Kelly is a couple of his assistant coaching hires. Most have been out of the park home runs, but the stinkers . . . Wow!

This was one of the main reasons I cancelled my ISD sub is Mike Frank's negative outlook all the time. It just got old. He is a battered fan who longs for the Lou Holtz days and those days are not coming back. ND's current administration is just not going to make the all commitment to football like the other football factories do.

Another poster mentioned Pete Sampson. What folks need to realize with him is he is just a writer for Irish Illustrated, he is by no means an ND fan at all. He has no emotional ties to the school or football program. I like his writing but don't ever mistake him for being an actual fan. Prister is a fan and an alum. I like him.

You realize Lesar is an opinion columnist, yes? Unlike, say, Eric Hansen or Mike Vorel at the SBT, whose job is more straight-up reporting. It's a different gig, with different standards.

That said, Lesar is terrible. A lazy hack who regurgitates the same tired stuff he's been writing for years and takes overly-negative positions re: Notre Dame football just to appear controversial. Talk about people who don't appear to enjoy their jobs...

I don't do the pay sites so I don't see much of Frank or Sampson. But honestly, I'd rather read the clear-eyed analysis of a professional journalist who's not explicitly a fan than the "pining for days gone by" stuff from a bleed-blue-and-gold-type. I get enough of that from my friends.

which professional journalists though? Hansen looks like he's just fallen out of bed everytime he appears at a presser. The guy is a lazy waste of space.

We got beef?

Clear-eyed, unbiased, professional journalists don't exist these days. That's my opinion anyways.

Who cares what he looks like, his writing is all that matters. I think he does a pretty good job there so I don't have any problem with him.

He went through a period of time where he was pretty negative about all things BK at one point. He was needlessly including opinions into his writing on things, making it clear that he wasn't a BK fan.

I haven't read his stuff much since then, so IDK if it's gotten better or not. I do know that he seems to do a better job with his player interviews, and even seems to enjoy them for the most part.

I don't bother with pay sites, personally.

Hansen is all right. I think he at least *tries* to be objective, if nothing else.

I'm also a Cowboys fan and their home page has this one longtime writer who is the biggest fricking blue and silver homer around. Even though that team has floundered around for most of the last twenty years, his glass is always at least 3/4 full, even when things fall apart.

Mike's Power Hour podcasts with Bob Chmiel have been an exercise in misery so far. I challenge any of you guys to sit down and listen to them the whole way through.

https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/2709/chmiel-talks-recruiting-5-22-17

Haven't listened to it yet. Is it miserable because of Chimel or because Mike is continuing to beat a dead horse about one of ND's recruiting issues?

I would definitely considering jumping on the new promotion if you're a prospective member. I was a simultaneous member at one point and ISD is 1000x more credible than 247 when it comes to recruiting intel and their content is much more substantive than 247's click-bait trash.

When you get a 247 account can you go from team site to team site or are you only buying Irish247 and their 247 material that's produced by the home office?
