The ND Scout guys do not think ND will vacate wins as there is no reason there should because nothing was hidden and no one was aware of the cheating. Sounds like the cheating was pretty massive (all around not just players).

No telling what happens...the kid is a legitimate Sunday-type talent. MORE guys are leaving early for the NFL even if their draft grades aren't primo. The agents are selling hard on the "finite" football lifespan...and making a pretty compelling argument...not sure he would go...but there is a LOOONG way to go before I'd be sure he's staying.

All true. But KVR - and Ishaq and even Daniels for that matter - could improve their draft stock quite a bit with a good 2015. That plus a degree may tilt things toward coming back if they can.

Yeah this and getting Russell back next year is like best case in my opinion. I hated the process but the way things have been going on around college football I respect ND just a little more for sticking to their guns. It sucks and I get it, but I never want this school or team to look like the debacle at FSU or have kids constantly getting arrested like in the SEC. Do it the right way and when you win it is that much sweeter!

Yes, probe was very large and involved a lot of non-football people.

Towards the "no one was aware" thing I totally agree... complicating matter though is that with the girl being a paid trainer, that by default means an "athletic department representative" WAS aware. So it's a big grey area.

The person with the lowest passing score on the Bar exam is still called Counselor.


In the Dunbar affair the NCAA ruled that she was a booster because she paid a $25.00 fee that was assessed on members of the Notre Dame Quarterback Club. The QB Club met for luncheons the day before a home game. The $25.00 was used solely to defray the cost meeting notice mailings to the members. It was a tenuous reach, but reach the NCAA did in a precedent redefining the term "booster". In actuality she was a serial groupie who dated ND football players and embezzled from her employer. The $25.00 was ruled the relevant factor.

That determination and some other procedural issues were appealable but ND's counsel was directed by then President Malloy NOT to appeal. Other schools had successfully appealed NCAA decisions. ND went home quietly. ND reports to a higher authority, ND had egg on her face, and ND served the unjust decision.



ND employees associated with the athletic department know their responsibilities. So do tutors. The Compliance Staff runs seminars on NCAA rules and pound away on the message "when in doubt ask". The student athletes sign forms acknowledging their awareness. Students, whether athlete, or student manager, student trainers, or TA's are bound by du Lac and the Honor Code.

None of us know the extent of academic fraud or the number of parties involved outside of those mentioned in the August press release. None of us know the real details of Golson's past issue despite the rumors. UND doesn't reveal such information.

If the Compliance Department and General Counsel believe NCAA rules were violated, I would expect Fr Jenkins to abide by their recommendation on the NCAA matters.

If this was indeed a widespread student issue I could see Fr Jenkins taking drastic action with not just a couple of athletes losing a season.

ND's places at #1 in my thread on the Winningest Percentage Program isn't going to influence his decision. This is Notre Dame not OSU. Jenkins isn't Gee nor is he Malloy.

This. You are 100% right. There is a "responsibility matrix" to this effect.

The same source has provided the majority of his info for this week and has been exactly right with it all. Many students across multiple disciplines. O'Malley said more than 25 classes involved. Not sure if he meant students or classes there but if classes is correct that is huge.

Again, if the investigation was as broad and encompassing as we're led to believe, there are people numbering in the hundreds (accused students, teachers, faculty members, employees, aides, committee members, etc.) who have had direct participation in the investigation. Then that number increases almost exponentially when you add in all those people to their parents, spouses, roommates, girlfriends/boyfriends, siblings, friends, etc.

There's definitely a part of me that doubts the giant scope of the investigation.
