I like how the dust forms the A at the end of the trailer - nice imagery of putting the pieces back together.

What are the odds of some massive time travel induced re-set to open the door to do-overs on the entire MCU?

I mean they're gonna need to mess with time travel if the Quantum Realm doesn't have all the answers... time travel seems like such a copout, but Doctor Strange seeing all potential outcomes, while also using the Time Stone, makes it seem inevitable.

If they go that route, and extend it for the whole universe, I'd wonder how they pigeon-hole the next Guradians, Spider-Man, and Black Panther films in as not having been part of the reset.

I doubt it'll re-do everything, but there have been many fan theories that the time travel changes will be key to an Iron Man sacrifice perhaps leading to the Soul Stone. Weird stuff

I don't think it's gonna be Stark, though.

Chris Evans' contract is up with this film, and he had that big line about "we don't trade lives" in the first one.

I'm assuming he pays the ultimate price, based on all evidence.

I don't think so. The Disney-Fox merger closes on March 20. They don't need to reboot the current roster to expand the life of the series, they can get at least 10 more years out of the X-Men and F4, along with whomever of the current lineup sticks around.

Ah, my Kingdom for a well-managed X-Men franchise with continuity among characters and actors.

McAvoy and Fassbender can stay. Hard reset on everyone else, except maybe Sophie Turner as a consistent Jean Gray/Phoenix moving forward.
Absolutely zero chance that the current X franchise makes its way to the MCU. None whatsoever. Those movies are trash and Feige isn't going to fuck with his pristine canon by retconning subpar content.

That is absolutely fine with me, and what I would prefer.

I thought you meant the current crop would drop into the MCU at some point. Plz no.

Oh I don't care about anything currently happening in Xmen. But X2, and Logan are tier 1 super hero movies.

This was announced yesterday I believe:

Marvel Taps Destin Daniel Cretton to Direct Shang-Chi - SuperHeroHype

"Shang-Chi is the creation of Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin, who made his debut in 1973. Unlike the other Marvel martial arts heroes, Shang-Chi headlined his own comic book series, The Master of Kung Fu. That series ran from 1974 to 1983. Shang-Chi eventually fell into obscurity and he rarely appeared. More recently, Shang-Chi has appeared as a member of Heroes for Hire and various iterations of The Avengers."

I'm sure you'll be shocked to learn that Nightcrawler has always been my favorite X-Man:

Which is why X2 will always have a special place in my heart. That opening scene in the White House was awesome:

X2 had so many great moments. White House scene, "Too much iron in your blood", Bryan Cox as William Stryker, Xavier telling the President of the United States to back off telepathically, the special forces attempting to take Xavier School for gifted children with only the kids and Wolverene playing babysitter.

The only flaw of that movie is the fact that it was directed by a real life monster.

X2 much like Spiderman 2 is viewed with such rose colored glasses nowadays.

This was maybe the worst line in not just comic book movie history, but in all of cinematic history.

Legitimately curious where you find conversations about X2 other than this thread. I feel like everyone has forgotten about that trilogy entirely. The general consensus is that 1 was passable, 2 was amazing, 3 was terrible. I don't ever see anyone ever talking about it though.

Also curious where you see glowing retrospectives about the Raimi Spiderman trilogy. The only people I ever see bringing up the McGuire movies are either loving them ironically or straight up making fun of them.

I think one of the biggest things about Spiderman 2 is that the bad guy was very well written, very well acted, and considering he had tentacles with a mind of their own, very well rendered SFX-wise. Also, the scene of Spidey stopping the runaway train and then caught and cared for by the passengers was fantastic and pretty unique for most of the superhero movies made. They did a bit of that in 1 ("You take on one of us, you take on all of us" not too far removed from 9/11), effective but not as good as in 2, and tried it in Amazing Spiderman 1 (crane scene), but generally considered kinda cheesy.

Personally, my views on the Spiderman movies is Tobey was good at Peter & not a great Spidey, Garfield was better at Spidey but his Peter didn't match up well. Tom Holland really seems to do a good job of both and balancing them. To be fair though, Holland is the beneficiary of an experienced MCU machine.

The original X-Men and Spider-man trilogies also benefited from being the first of the recent spate of big budget superhero movies. As a kid, I was just grateful that Hollywood was finally making stuff I actually wanted to see. But when we look back on them, they obviously don't hold up very well against a lot of the more refined offerings that have come out since.

Kirsten Dunst is terrible, and emo Peter Parker from S3 was a crime against humanity.

OG Iron Man is only a year newer than S3 and somehow it holds up SOOOOO well.

Polar opposites on this one... I haven't viewed Hollywood in the same light since the comic book take over occurred. It's very rare they make a movie I actually want to see anymore. I went from major movie nerd, aspiring screenwriter, to completely apathetic and rarely ever going to the movies anymore. The two biggest reasons, the Michael Bays and Tim Burtons of the world, and comic book movies...

Aaron apparently only enjoy "films", not low-brow movies.
