Historic day for Irish Envy. Remember checking my phone every 2 minutes in class in HS.

Dude same. You can probably ask anyone that follows Irish recruiting "where were you when Greenberry flipped to Houston?".

That shit in '11 and '12 was truly the Wild West of recruiting in the Kelly era. Haven't seen anything close to that since.

EDIT: Not entirely true, Eddie V was in '13.

Can't disagree. Between that and the tuitt recruitment and all the headache that was Lynch....WOW

What did we get out of those three 5 stars, 5 years of football combined?

1 for Ishaq, 1 for Lynch, 3 for Tuitt?

That sucks.

I honestly can't even remember. I thought he only played his freshman year, but I probably don't remember the others because his impact was so minimal.

Well, in 2012 Tuitt registered the 2nd most sacks in a single season. And for his career, is tied for 3rd. That was definitely worth it.

But for the most part, yes, a lot of those stressful and time consuming recruitments did not work out for ND. Probably why we've seen a change in strategy from the recruiting department.

The Tee/Greenberry saga has to go down as one of the most crazy things I've ever witnessed. This site was an absolute gold mine for insanity back then. The Lynch transfer, the tweets from Greenberry's mom, staying up on Christmas Eve to see if anything broke on the Kiel news. So much craziness in that few years.

Wasn't Lynch's mom on here at one point and defending her son's good name? Im almost positive it was her.

She absolutely was on here. I believe the whole reason I signed up for ND was to answer a question for her about ND.

No shit. That was many moons ago my friend.

Yup, just looked it up. Unfortunately the whole thread was nuked by JPham but my first post on July 8th was responding to "iamtrulyblessed" about my experiences at ND and then the next was about the best way to get to South Bend.

Never posted on a message board before that, and now 8 years later I've wasted God knows how much time on here. All thanks to Momma Lynch.

At least something good came from that woman.

Eddie Vanderdoes. The thrill of getting him at the very end of recruiting day and then he never even makes a practice.

Kelly probably doesn't, but I miss that shit so much. Recruiting was way more entertaining then.

Who was the kid who was going to announce for us, then received a call on the way to the podium, then announced for Florida State?
I'm thinking it was a running back

DaVonte Neal.

What a crazy day here. Didn't need a Twitter or a MB here in AZ to follow that one. Local TV & Radio were all over it and once he no showed, it went full TMZ. That was bizarre.

As far as missing the drama? Not me. Since ND's strong 11th hour finish in '17 (as a whole) things have been very very good. '20 could make it great.

Lorenzo Booker. Story I heard was that it was ND but his choice got leaked out beforehand, got pissy, and committed to FSU out of spite.

Those recruiting years were definitely filled with drama and it probably deserved its own tv show, but I don’t want Notre Dame recruiting to go back to those years. Like today, it’s fun to look back and laugh at it. But those are also the years recruiting classes that probably prevented of getting this team over the hump.

Notre Dame recruiting has been pretty stress free for the last 3-4 years and they also have 10 wins in the last 3 out of 4 seasons. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Let’s hope the ending of the 2019 class is smooth sailing.

Kelly has definitely changed his approach since then, and its paid off. Only complaint would be being in it with more top 50 recruits at the end of the cycle but that will probably come with winning. If we can't start to consistently get elite talent after the last couple years we aren't going to take the next step.

Top 50 is tough for ND outside of TEs and OLs. Rare that those guys go anywhere except football factories. I was happy last year getting several inside the top 100. Would kill for a few top 50 in the DL and RB/WR space.
