Maybe y'all should just spend more time with your families? Leave the tv watching to us bums

I need the tv for sports... but I also need it to keep my wife entertained when I turn on the PS4 and play Assassin's Creed after the kid is in bed.

Umm, that's not what you are supposed to do with the wife after the kids are in bed...

I have twenty sweet solitary minutes to myself in a given day. The three year old goes down around 6:45 and then my wife is nursing the baby from around 6:50 to 7:10.

I only need 3 minutes for that. What am I supposed to do for the other 3 hours and 57 minutes of the night?

Haha, I tried to convince my wife to let me buy an Xbox when we switched to Sling 'because we need a new streaming device anyway,' but no dice. She opted for the $50 Roku stick.
That's how I got my wife to let me buy a second Xbox. We have a pretty robust sound system in the basement, but it doesn't take HDMI input, only optical. So a Roku or some other dongle / stick wouldn't work. Boom, Xbox in the basement.

So I have a PS4 so it sounds like I'd be eligible for the youtube TV. Never used a chromecast, but I'm guessing that's what you need for the 2nd receiver since I only have 1 PS4?

Sounds like $35 a month if I sign up in the next week or so. DVR is included.

What are the worst parts of Youtube Live? Just want to know what I'd be getting into.

Apparently I'm full of shit and PS4 isn't supported yet. But the Chromecast is more than sufficient. I've seen two negatives so far (after three months ish).

1. Some local Fox affiliates aren't on board yet so you won't get Fox NFL games in the YouTubeTV app. But you can use the Fox Sports Go app and get everything there.

2. There's no way to get the DVR to record new episodes of shows only. So if you record Shark Tank, you'll also record the twelve rerun episodes that air on CNBC every day. But it does a good job of telling you which episodes are new so you can sort through them easily.

Thanks. So I buy 1 (2?) chromecasts and can work the youtube TV then? I also have "Apple TV", so perhaps that will mean I only need 1 (or none?) chromecasts.

I did a search and youtube TV is supported in my area. However, I'm in Minneapolis currently, and will be moving ~25 miles north of Minneapolis and I can't figure out yet if it'll extend there. I assume it will, but can't find a definitive answer.

Yes, Apple TV is a supported device. You'll want one device per TV, though I suppose you could unplug it and take it with you from room to room if you really wanted to.

You're not under any contract, so if it doesn't work in the new place you can just cancel and be done with it.

Once you are signed up in your home area you are able to use it anywhere. I believe you have to log in in your home area once every 3 or 6 months to keep your account active. As long as you aren't moving into some remote backwoods area I would think you'd be ok.

For what it's worth - we finally cut the cord and went with DirectTV Now.

The internet provider is Centurylink, and we signed up for between 40-80 Mbps for life for $45/month. We purchased their modem for $150.

DirectTV Now, we paid 3 months ahead in order to get the free Apple 4K TV, and are doing the $35 per month (price for life) package that has everything we need. We were previously paying $185 per month to Comcast.

We'll now be paying ~$90 per month ($45 internet, $35 DtvNow, + taxes).

Since DTVNow is promoting this with Apple 4K TV -- I assume they'll offer 4k programming soon? Anyone have any idea?

for any direct tv people....i was able to cut my bill 45.00 a month for next 12 months because i did the online chat and asked for the "loyalty program" told them i was switching to youtube tv and then they asked how much that was so i had to provide proof which i just did a quick google and saw what their pricing was....they dropped my bill like that and i got 6 months free hbo......i stuck with it because we have 4 kids and they all have electronics which are hooked up to wifi so it really slows the internet speed down and didn't want to have streaming problems

Day 1 into Directv Now.

The channel lineup is great even on the $35 option, and I actually like that the guide is alphabetic. On Demand seems to work well. Streaming and quality, I notice no difference form the Comcast cable I had previously. My only complaint isn’t with Directv Now itself, but the Apple 4K TV remote. Man that thing is queer. I had touchscreens in general, and the scrolling with it sucks. Every time I try to go down I go over, and vice versa. Overall I would highly recommend Directv Now, especially since DVR is coming soon.

But if there's any way around that dinky queer Apple remote, I'm all ears.

funny I just switched too... NFL ST, Dodger games (if you don't live in my area Dodger games have been blacked out for years now to most So Calers), and a very large channel package for over 100 dollar less than what we were paying with Verizon Fios.. we will see how it goes. My only real concern is the internet...

FWIW - I doubt it's an option for you, but Centurylink is what I started using. They have a promo going right now that is the 40-80 Mbps internet for $45 for life (typically $55).

and with good reason... I did some research, called the company etc... and they only provide 25mdps max... no thank you. I called our current provider and cancelled everything but internet and they doubled the speed we currently have (it was already pretty good). New cable and new ludicrous wifi still for 75 dollars less than what we were paying all together. Should work out well.

Get a Chromecast with Google Home or FireTV with an Echo. Do everything by voice.

Is there a time frame on this? Just wrote a $189.00 check to the cable company. I'm done with that. It's entirely too much for the 4-5 channels I actually watch.

But the big question is do you still get the Hallmark Channel?

Christmas in July is just around the corner.....

I'm not 100% sure but I believe it ends March 30th. And yes I have the hallmark channel!

Anyone every heard of "US Internet"? Guy at work is all hyped up about it because the prices are awesome and apparently include modem. Says he has a friend using it and loves it.

If this checks out, it's a really attractive price.

I used USI for at least five years before I left Minneapolis. I got in on the ground floor. They had a pre-paid two-year plan that amounted to that amounted to just under $20 a month.

They hadn't reached my neighborhood with fiber before I skedaddled. The Wi-Fi node system presented problems a few times in that time span, but the oh-so-responsive and helpful tech staff resolved those problems in short order.

I highly recommend them.
