This is a great thread, glad I found it.

Over the last 2 years I've gone from 260lbs to 180lbs and now sittin at 190 even. Almost all of the weight was lost in the first year and I've pretty much kept it off ever since. A lot of it was from giving up the booze but a lot of healthy eating and excersise in the form of long distance hiking and mountain climbing as well.

One thing I always do when I get in a slump is do a one week juice fast. I saw a movie on netflix awhile back called "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" that got me and a couple friends motivated to try it and boy does it work. Nothing but fruit/vegetable juice (plus some soy protein powder and fiber powder). I usually only do it for a week but some do it for a lot longer.

I joined a gym for the 1st time in my life. Have been 3 times in the past 12 days. Found out I can still run a mile under 7 minutes. Need to lose about 20 pounds. 6 ft. 205 ding!

Interested to hear what you guys will do for 2013. Are you gonna keep with the weight loss or switch to muscle gain? Or both?

I'm sticking with hiking and yoga but dropping kickboxing and adding wind sprints two to three times a week. The local kickboxing instructor is apparently trying to retire early by overcharging folks.

I've always been pretty muscular but feel awkward in the professional world at my size. I was 6'3" 230 lbs when I started trimming about 2 months ago. I am trying to trim down to about 210. I've dropped 6 pounds thus far by eating healthy and substituting lifting heavy for cardio. My energy level has been higher and I feel like I can think better at work.

Took about 3 months off from diet and exercise.. Just recently started lifiting again and altering my eating habits.

Over those three months my body has become accustomed to the salts, fats and sugars that come with wings, beer and pizza.

I am now paying for my vacation from responsibility and going through withdrawals and it is difficult. Dieting is literally the hardest thing I've ever had to do..

Just needed to rant... I'll be fine in a few weeks and back to the annoying guy next to you that says "Eew, do you even know how many calories that hot pocket has?"...

Just took two yoga classes. That **** is straight hard. I am taking it for relaxation and improve my breathing since i quit smoking but dang whoever thought breathing and stretching would cause so much pain lol.

Absolutely awesome for the headspace though.

So I think one of us here at IE should get all jacked, got back to grad school at ND and become the oldest walk on in NCAA history. Any takers?

Here is my train of thought.

Not all carbs are bad and carb diets usually find the person gaining after the diet. Cut out the sugar and you cut out the bad carbs.

Basiaclly yes, aslong as you dont spike your insulin (which sugar really does) you wont store fat :)

Congrats on quitting smoking! Yeah I had no idea how much yoga could hurt you :) Have you tried it in a hot room yet?

Not yet. I generate enough body heat from the full diaphragmatic breathing. I sweat plenty. I am already noticing i am a lot more flexible and some better results running. Thanks on the smoking. So glad I did.

Did exactly what I thought I could avoid over the Christmas break, which is put on 7 lbs. Didn't restrict myself at all, didn't exercise, ignored the scale completely. I was going to exercise today, but I found out that my University's gym is closed until January 4th. Going to use a 7-day trial at a local gym and hit the tuna/chicken/vegetables diet hard. Worst part is, I swear I can feel the extra weight. I don't even want to go to the gym, I just want to go home and play Black Ops 2, lol. BTW, I usually don't get into the 'campaign' modes of the CODs, but BO2's is phenomenal.

I run outside on a regular basis. It becomes a problem though in the winter time when nobody shovels or salts.

For long term health you need to stay active physically and mentally. You should excercise both brain and brawn on a regular basis. Excercise could mean mowing the grass. Just get off you duff each day for a little while and do something!!

Anyone changing it up for 2013? Or just doing the same thing?

Adding more strength training. Doing the Supreme 90 day workouts...a bit shorter and less intense than P90X, but pretty good. Will keep running...maybe not as many miles...15-20 a week (unless I train for a race).

That with some better eating (starting in one week) should get my 10-15 off by about March.

I recently added a lot more strength training in October. Workout 7 days a week, the cyle goes------Day 1-Triceps/Chest, Day 2-Biceps/Back, Day 3-Shoulders/Traps/Legs. Then repeat

I also run everyday. I'm liking the results so far!

I am going on a full out healthy, overly, eating and excercise binge after the NC Game. Had a friend of mine, mid-40s, have a heart attack recently. Granted she was a smoker, but still an eye opener. Been putting it off for far too long and I have a responsibility to my kids to be around for a while.

It's all about finding the motivation. Once you find that then it is smooth sailing from there. For you, your kids should give you all the motivation you need

Well... A few years back, I stepped on the scale at an embarrassing and nasty 295. That prompted me and one of my fraternity brothers to have a weight loss competition. That got me down to 255ish. I continued to get myself down to 245. Then grad school got in the way and I have ballooned back up to around 275. I hate it and really need to lose the weight again.

I'll do it by simply doing cardio and weight training and obviously eating better. Nothing overly specific. I hope to be down to around 240 or so by May then set new goals from there. Let's do this!
