Getting Ready to Deliver my Family's Eulogy for my Grandmother Tomorrow.

Twice now.

Last time I delivered at the ripe age of 21. And now: 32.

Tough.

Bummer homie. I gave my Grandmother's eulogy two years ago. I know that the words have to be your own, but try to remind people what she left, not just what she meant.

Only two things help in my experience [and I've buried far too many family and friends at my age]: a). the faith that what we believe is true. I was with two very good friends just days before their deaths. They were actually "shining" with joy --- I don't know how to explain this, but there it was.

b). remembering all the good things about her --- celebrating her life. It's paradoxical, and it still hurts, but strangely it is softening of the tearing of the spiritual strings that have bound us together.

One last anecdote: When we buried my Dad, the family drifted almost in an emotional coma back to the family house and sat stunned in silence in our living room. From across the street behind the neighbor's house came a magnificent buck deer. It walked directly across the street, directly across our yard [this had never happened before by the way], and right up to the living room window where it stood and stared into our eyes for what seemed an eternity. Then it casually turned and retraced its steps as it had come.

Say what you want, all of us "knew" that Dad had somehow managed that. He was saying to the family, as he always did in tough times: "It's alright. gang."

Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost a grandfather this past February so I know how hard it is. Your family will be in my prayers.

That's great that they are starting to heal. It's always hard when you are there. But soon after you just start to think of all the childhood memories you had with your grandparents and it will always put a smile on your face.

Did the exact same thing in 2008, very sorry for your loss Johnny, I focused on who she was and her legacy, which of course was all of us. It highlighted how her spirit would remain and hopefully illustrated our oneness both in point of origin and common experience through her. Good luck and Godspeed, we'll be with you man.

I'm very sorry for your loss Johnny. I never know what to say in these times. Over the last 5 years I went from one of many at the young adults table of our family Thanksgiving feast, straight to the head of the old folks table and I'm still always at a loss for words.

Prayers to you and your family.

Condolences and prayers for your family. I don't think I could do it, but for those I've seen do it....it's all about her and who she was to the people she touched. God's speed.

I'm good. The eulogy went as planned. It was a great service.

Hold your family close and listen to your heart. If your mind tells you,"you really ought to go see grandma so and so," go do it.

You may never get another chance.

Live each day trying not to create regrets.

I'm glad I listened to my heart days before her death...
