5. Did Corey Robinson run the correct route on the INT? At first i blamed Kizer, but looking at closer, isn't that where the QB should throw the ball on those endzone fades? How come Robinson wasn't closer to the endzone.

In the presser, BK said that Kizer was duped into thinking it was press coverage but they in fact played bracket coverage which caused the whole play to look awful and the INT as a result.

Don't know if anyone caught this or not but it hasn't been mentioned. What I liked about having Kizer in there is this was the first game that 90% of our snaps happened with 20-25 seconds left on the play clock. Rees, Golson and Zaire never did that. Could be due to running less complicated plays so I will be interested to see if the trend continues moving forward.

I'm not the one that said it, BK was, to Malik's mothers face. Doesn't get more straightforward than that. There's a long list of things he could've said to her as condolences but he chose those words. Probably something to it.

Unless Kizer gets us to the playoffs, this is still Malik's team. Kizer still has 3 years of eligibility after this season, he'll get his shot.

@ the 71:20 mark you see his knee give a bit while in coverage. @ 71:26 mark you see his knee sideways on #18 receiver for GT. Adrenaline imo was the culprit but this celebration clause is silly. He clearly injured the knee while defending.

Eh? Clearly while defending? Looks B&W to me.

I know Zaire has only played in a handful of games, however, Kizer hasn't shown enough in just over a game to say he's gonna be better than Zaire. He reminds me an awful lot of Golson on some aspects.

He does not fuck the ball away when he's in the pocket......he's gonna start losing fumbles, and it's gonna be Golson-like fumbles. He isn't nearly the runner that Malik is, and he does not carry out his fakes well. This is a point, because, there will be times when he needs to keep the ball on a read option, and he's gonna get killed because he doesn't carry out his fake. Something else I noticed during the game, it takes FOREVER, for him t hand the ball off. On more than a few occasions, there was a defensive player I'm the backfield before the ball was handed off.......km not sure why, but they both looked really slow with the exchange.

- Joe’s had 10 tackles, but there were a number of times where he’d go unblocked and the QB or RB would still turn the corner because Joe was too slow. These plays cost us a lot of yards.

I didn't see that at all. It's HIGHLY doubtful that an inside linebacker was assigned to set the edge of the defense against an option team. What IS likely is that he was assigned to the QB, got blocked well on a couple of plays, and appeared to be running after the RB on a couple of others, after taking an angle to the QB and forcing the pitch. But if either of them got around the corner, that is almost certainly someone else's breakdown, not Schmidt being too slow.

Yes to the bolded. Some of those handoffs were really slow. QB and RB looked too close together on some as well, like they were tripping over each others feet. Kizer needs to extend his arm, put the ball in the RB's numbers, and get his body out of the way.

Re-watched the game and some more observations...

1. Not as worried about Alize Jones. He'll be fine. And nice to see Kelly utilizing a tight end more this game.

2. I feel our slot receiver is kind of pointless. Between Amir, Hunter, and Sanders we have some dangerous weapons that can be used particular in short routes for a rookie QB.

3. Fuller is a stud. Prossise is getting all the attention but Fuller is more of a game changer.

4. Tranqiull looked like he was ready to become Zbikowski which makes his injury even more upsetting.

5. Did Corey Robinson run the correct route on the INT? At first i blamed Kizer, but looking at closer, isn't that where the QB should throw the ball on those endzone fades? How come Robinson wasn't closer to the endzone.

Corey had bracket coverage, a safety behind and a corner covering him.

This is the defenses way of taking away the fade, because the second defender is behind the receiver, (where the ball goes.)

In fact, the worst thing about this play was that Corey made his route correction perfectly, and was actually open, when he turned inside. I felt bad for DeShone, but worse for Corey.

You are correct, reps, sir! Few players were in any better position all day. And it seems like that half-a-step he lost is back with a brother! He seemed really fast closing on Thomas, with the speed that Thomas has!

I wonder how Joe graded out for Saturday? I bet he was one of the highest on the team.

Not so sure about that. Those plays you mention were read options. Kizer did a masterful job getting the key to react. Just as he did on the long touchdown to Will Fuller.

This is something we haven't seen in an ND quarterback lately.

And I am sure it is going to take the running backs, and wide receivers a little time to get used to it!

Yes, I think you might be the only one, lol. Post UVA, BK walked over to Malik's mom and said this is Malik's team and when he's healthy he's our QB.
I really didn't care for that when I saw it on Showtime. I get that he's trying to console Malik's mom, but IMO his primary responsibility as a head football coach should have been to his new freshman quarterback, not his injured quarterback's mother. If you're going to say something like that, say it in private. If I'm Kizer watching that clip, I'm not exactly sensing coach's confidence in me.

Are you looking for reasons you're not a football coach?

FYI: It doesn't seem like you have it in ya.

IMHO, he has to do both.

We don't know all that was said to all parties and in what order. It looks like the Showtime guys caught Kelly with Malik's parents in a hallway somewhere. Unfortunately, when filming a reality series, there doesn't seem to be ANY truly private moments. We saw Sanford talking to DK, but I bet there was more discussions with DK and Kelly that didn't make the final cut.

Just my two cents

I was talking about BK making the bold statement.

I wonder what BKs relationship was like with MZ and his parents before this happened.

Sure will be interesting if DK does extremely well this year. Even more interesting if DK does well, and BW gets some packages and looks like monster.

Anyway, I'm old school and believe that you should not lose your job because of injury. Being that MZ has only had a few starts, makes it even bolder IMO.

Know I am late with the post game observations...travelled back from game yesterday.
- Great game by D. Going in, to me that was the key for ND, being able to stop GT from driving down the field
- Pretty good showing from Kizer, except the dumb throw for INT
- What was up with Stanley?
- Kicking game has me worried. Am I gonna have to worry about making the extra point?
- Tranquil injury...are you kidding me? That's a big blow.
- Winning this game was huge, cuz losing it would have really hurt this team in MHO. Hope they keep it going into Clemson.
_ CJ is a stud. Runs N/S, and has sneaky speed. Blew by everybody and outran them dudes on the breakout run.

Kelly said that Kizer was doing some different stuff than Malik when it came to cadence, which is why we had so many false start penalties. He said it's easy to clean up.
Kelly isn't worried about Yoon in the kicking game. He said he has graet poise for a freshman, but he's still a freshman and he'll make some mistakes. He'll only get better.

Yoon will get it worked out, I'm actually not too concerned, he's hit some pretty long FGs... on that tho, what are his actual numbers on the season? I hear stats that conflict and when I look around online I can't find anything.?

See, I heard during the game or after someone 'expert' or commentator state he had missed four field goals or some such... I've honestly been fairly impressed considering he is a true frosh...

If you watch Kelly's demeanor post UVA you can see that he was visibly shaken up by what transpired.

Sorry if someone already mentioned this, but what I saw from Jaylon on Saturday was nothing short of amazing. I'm talking about his leadership, not just his performance on the field.

Usually when the team runs out of the tunnel the well known players and captains lead the pack. Being at the game, I just happened to notice that Jaylon wasn't in the front of the pack with everyone else. He was actually the second to last person to run out of the tunnel. He was running side by side with Deshone Kizer. Coincidence? I don't think so. Jaylon seems to have taken Kizer under his wing and is making Kizer comfortable behind center.

This is probably something that couldn't be seen on tv and I thought I'd share it. Kudos to Jaylon for showing great leadership

Didn't know that, thanks for sharing. Maybe all know this but when Malik went down he walked over the Deshone on the sideline (against UVA) and told him that he believed in him.

Just pointing out-I really enjoy how Kizer sucked in the preseason yet now he's the second coming.

Kizer just keeping a seat warm/holding a spot for Wimbush-remember?

Let's get real for a minute. He had a decent game against GT. He will probably have a stinker of a game this year. Hopefully, he'll pull it out or the running game/D will save ND's bacon.

Who said he sucked in the preseason?

According to some practice reports Malik had rough days with accuracy and Kizer looked better during some sessions.

For sure. He will face better defenses that will get to him. Someone with really talented corners will take away Will Fuller. The more tape teams have on Kizer the better they'll suss out his limited playbook. Kizer's not going to carry us to the playoffs on his own. But football's a team game, and hopefully he won't need to.
