ND recruits nationally. You can not shut down one state because you are mad that we have had a bad rate over the last few years. ND still needs to keep in touch with coaches and schools because if you lose out on that you might lose out on players in the future.
So what if we lose some, we get others to replace them. CA is too large a state, football wise, to give up on. BK is getting ND back in the door in CA and soon we will be getting, and keeping, these kids.
(I bet a few years ago a lot of people said to stop recruiting TX as well)

Lots of resources in the armsteads too in 12

True. I didn't include them because they were kind of a last minute package deal we were trying to work out, so outside of that concentrated burst, I'm not sure how much we really invested there.

I should also point out that I don't remember 2010 and 2011 well enough to list the CA recruits that left us at the altar those years. Feel free to fill in if you do.

The strength of the Pac-12 the last few years also likely has something to do with it. Mora, Lupoi, Harbaugh/Shaw, etc. The Pac-12 is really something to be desired as a conference. Lots of parity, if you are into that.

LAX has been beating that drum for months. I'd love to see a breakdown of our recent Cali recruits and how they've panned out. My intuition is that we've received a very poor return on the recruiting resources we've invested in that state.

Seems like you could almost say the same about FL. (Brian Poole, Agholor, IM, etc).

Edit: Lynch.

If you go by that logic we would have stopped recruiting Texas because we struck out the last 3 yrs bt this year we pulled 3 studs. All southern states are difficult for ND to recruit but in no way can we just stop recruiting any of them .

Exactly. Great point.

I appreciate the perspective. I can't buy that we should stop recruiting California or limit recruiting there because, imo, there is no one single, unitary California; there are many Californias. Similarly, there isn't one type of California kid that's different from kids elsewhere. The fact that a kid lives in California is an accident and has nothing to do with his interest in ND. We need to look for kids who want to play great football and get a degree and who will fit in and be happy at ND. Some may live in California.

If we've been missing on kids who live in California, it's because we've failed to identify kids there who want to buy what we're selling. I don't buy that it's because it's hard to get kids there interested in what we are selling.

Ding Ding Ding

It's a problem of identifying the kid that will make it at ND.

Hit the private schools and highly rated public schools the hardest and then go from there

I think this is part of it. But again, I also think it's because of increased parity in the Pac-12 the past few years. Zona, UCLA, Stanford, Washington (Mike Leach). The conference is in really good shape overall.

That's true enough. When the local schools are strong, that always makes it harder to pull a kid across a great distance. I don't think California is different from Texas or Florida in this respect though, and it's not as if we could pull out of all three areas. Gotta get kids from the speed states.

AHHH I'm still not over it. Quick really would have tied the class together.

Greedy, I know. It's a great class.

I know skill positions weren't the focus of this class, but man it would have been great to land an "offensive playmaker."

Word from the OU boards is that Quick's buddy LJ Moore has left the Oklahoma football team. Some combination of homesickness / lady issues seem to be the root cause.

Did Moore play a large role in getting Quick to OU? Regardless, I don't see another EV-type situation happening here.

Yeah, he did. The Fresno connection to OU was a big factor in general.

That is very strange to me because it seemed like Moore was the most stable and level-headed of the major prospects coming from Fresno.

I'd take LJ Moore if he wanted to transfer to Notre Dame. But, he is probably home sick...probably end up at UCLA or something.

I really, really hate Fresno. Those kids are all Looney Toons. I wish ND would just stop wasting its time there.
