I’d suspect they are the only team who can’t jump us. But if they would, I agree that would be stupid. We just have to wait for the teams above us to canibalize one another until it would just be an embarrassment not to move ND up. That NIU loss is a bruise that won’t heal.

That said, I can’t recall a year in which the top of the board is so under-punished after a loss. Three teams in the top five have a loss in the past two weeks. Almost like they are destined to finish on top no matter what.
Yes, but also you've had more heavyweight fights this year than is typical, partly b/c of conference realignment. Georgia's loss was to Bama. Ohio State's loss was to Oregon. Texas' was to Georgia.
And no one actually thinks Penn State (best win... Illinois?) would beat any of those teams, based on their decade-long history of failing to beat those sort of teams. Same with Miami who keeps escaping by chinhairs.
So you're not going to drop the powers too far.
Lose to NIU though, and apparently that's a heavy anchor.

I guess, but there seems to be gathering evidence that Bama isn’t very good, which chips away at that logic. A two-loss Bama managed to beat Georgia and then lose to Vandy a week later then this week. That mini-collapse in turn, makes Georgia’s loss to them seem worse yet they remain in the top 5. PSU will drop like a stone when they lose a game (probably to OSU) yet OSU remains in the upper echelon, dropping only two spots ahead of teams in its own conference that haven’t lost a game.

It used to be that if you were going to lose one do it early to give yourself time to climb back to the top. Just seems like it doesn’t mean anything to lose if you remain at the top when you do. 🤷🏻

I’m not a pearl clutcher (although an occasional motorboat isn’t out of the question) but even though we had to endure a substandard Gerad Parker year, I think it’s a win we ended up with Denbrock in the long run.
Big time.

Ludwig could have been fine here at ND, but I think they would have overpaid for him severely in hindsight. I recall thinking it then. It's pretty far back in the rearview anyway and I think this only reinforces that sometimes as fans we just need to react indifferently to certain things and move on. We're all thirsty for another championship, but certain things just play out in the long run.

Transitive win opportunity this weekend - TAMU over LSU would be very nice. Unfortunately it would drop us a spot as they leapfrog and LSU doesn't drop past us in classic SEC fashion.

I don't think TA&M could leapfrog us if we have the same record. Bad loss to NIU or not, H2H has to count for something.

It's college football, it's a weird sport and upsets happen all of the time. But the fact of the matter is, we went down to College Station and beat them on their own field.

LSU having a second loss would absolutely drop them below ND with one loss.

By two scores. We didn't win by 4. I'm telling you guys they can't overlook the 2 score H2H on the road.

This is 100% happening. ND's loss is worse than TAMUs loss and the best wins would be a wash. That is what the voters would say anyway.

The committee states every year that who you beat matters more than who you lost to.

Beating LSU is more impressive than beating TAMU who just beat LSU - narrative on Sunday this week probably.

None of which matters if we snooze on Navy.

Playoff rankings will be different than the AP as long as ND wins the next few weeks.

Prob should throw more when single high safety isn't present.

Also, more designed RL runs, or just more wise usage of designed QB runs.

Also throw to TEs more.

Also, more play action. For as much as we want to run the ball, especially with Leonard, PA should be much higher than 21% of dropbacks IMO.

Know the Nolan Ziegler thread was closed but seems like he never made the CMU roster.
Checked him out on Instagram quickly and curiously seen he reposted an ND photo and then videos of him working out with a trainer.
Obviously FWIW, but maybe never too late for a comeback?

Only 17 power 4 teams remain with 0 or 1 loss after week 9. This number will continue to shrink to around 6 or 7 by the end of the regular season.
