https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2022/i...pencer-rattler -- this is kind of crazy. We have 1 defensive player rated top ten at his position (Kyle Hamilton, #1 S) and 1 offensive player rated top ten at this position (Jarret Patterson, #3 C). On paper, there is very little reason to believe that ND will be good except for banking on new players emerging + young players playing at elite levels. With some positions, like Mayer at TE, that makes sense. At other positions, like corner and OL and WR, I'm not sure it does. Time will tell.

It really is a very intriguing year to watch unfold for ND and Brian Kelly's legacy as a whole in this revamped 4 year run they've been on since 2016. It's just kind of incredible to think where Brian Kelly and the program were at when he first took over to then see how 2016 unfolded and now this very successful recent history the program has had. Where does it go from here? Has the effort in recruiting and roster management paid off? Are they now reloading every year instead of rebuilding? This year's team has so many question marks but it has highly rated players and young exciting up and comers at most positions. The competition in the fall is gonna be great to see unfold.

It's very exciting because the culture of the program seems as strong as ever and the direction is clear that winning is a top priority and winning on the big stage is expected but the unknown answers at key positions like OL, WR, and in the secondary are concerning and can be a little nerve wrecking without even mentioning the winningest QB in school history is no longer at the helm (with all his faults Ian Book was a damn gamer and fighter that literally played his guts out for ND). There is bound to be some anxiety as fans, with so much yet to be solidified.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this is "the new norm" of Notre Dame football. Consistent winner. Consistently in the playoff discussion. But I'm also guarded because 2016 wasn't THAT long ago and those wounds will never heal lol.

So I need yall to help me with this question. I cannot find a satisfactory answer.

I read recently that ND has had 11 football players go into the transfer portal. Most have graduated and left with elegibility (meaning they could still remain on the team and take up a scholarship spot). How does this work relative to available spots and maximum team size/classs size numbers? Can ND go over the 25 spots/ year + EEs? We arent bringin in enough portal players to make up that difference. How does ND get to 85 and how can you plan for these portal losses?

i havent read anything substantive as it relates to football. In basketball i know if you stay with the team you are with you dont count towards the 13 scholarships in your extra "covid" year. If you transfer you count towards that teams 13.

Why isn't this thread blowing up over this news!? I know it was expected, but I'm pumped that it is now official. I renewed my season tickets yesterday and am ready to roll.

I was a little worried about tailgating, so I am very happy they didn't change that. Catch me in the Joyce Lot!

Anyone willing to disclose rates (including donation) for season tickets in upper bowl endzone? Don't really want to give contact info to ND if it's out of my price range.

2 tickets in the upper bowl, corner end zone is just north of $2k.

It would be interesting if a someone did a comparison story of how ND football alum's in FTT compare to other schools' football alums from schools you think of that produce film/tv folks... like Syracuse, SC, UCLA, etc.

In other news: I believe Mendoza has overtaken Michigan's Kineseology Dept as the #1 producer of graduates from the... "two equals in academic prowess for football programs" (a typical thread title on a Michigan football fan site). Someone should do a comparison story on that too. They could include North Carolina too so that MI doesn't feel THAT bad about themselves.

To be fair, Arrow didn't say he was selling them to a Clemson fan. Plenty of ND fans would've paid top dollar for that weekend too.

I'd imagine getting the seats I'd accept for that game to see Lawrence & #1 Clemson, in a non-Covid season, in a battle of undefeateds would run at least $1500.

I should've clarified. I'll never sell tickets to fans of the opposing team.

Here's an enjoyable thread on r/cfb about an article Pete Thamel recently published about NDFB. Some stupidity/ hate, but most replies were either very insightful or complementary of us.

I like r/cfb. Many people on there, while fans of a certain university, are college football fans in general which is refreshing. They are (mostly) very knowledgeable and respectful on there. Many of the takes on there are of those who understand just how dominant Alabama has been, how an elite QB can set a team apart, and how ND is definitely in a solid spot with chances.

Apologies if already mentioned, but when do the new arrivals get on campus? I know it’s this month.

Yeah I read it quite a few years ago, it's actually really well written. The author is from Canada and is a big Michigan fan but he wrote it from a rather unbiased lens. Really just speaks to the history and bitterness of the two schools and what led to those long hiatuses. Some of it was immensely petty, especially on the part of Yost.

Interesting article breaking down Bill Connelly's SP+'s projection for ND this year, which is a 7-5 record. Points out that one of the heaviest metrics in the formula is returning production, and ND sits at a lowly 123/127 in that category (and Connelly even went as far to include Coan's 2019 stats in that production formula).

As the writer points out, however, BK has continued to recruit at a top 10 level and is operating the program at a top 10 level. ND has only ranked better than 80th in returning production ONCE since the 2017 run of ten win seasons.

I think this speaks volumes of the developmental job the staff is doing, getting the next man up ready. Connelly did point out that he would be surprised if ND actually did finish 7-5 and had high praises for BK and the program's recent success.

Also interesting to point out that we are betting favorites in 11/12 games as of now.

SP+ is always shit at ND's win probabilities, anyway. FPI does a better job with it. One of my favorite examples of that was 2019 Navy and BC late in the year. SP+ had ND's win probability at like 55-60% and BC the following week as a tossup, which made no sense in the context of how the season was working out. Against Navy, ND was up 38-3 at the half and won 52-20. Then they smoked BC 40-7. It's a joke and anyone getting in a twist about it needs to take a step back. The model is just bad at figuring out if ND is gonna win or not.

The returning production is definitely overrated in it, but I also kind of wonder if SP+ just has a hard time with ND being a P5 but not in a conference, as opposed to Army or BYU or something.
