No.
ND has more control of student athletes than they do campers. Think social distancing, etc. Cancelling camps allows ND also has more time to prepare for the student athletes. Sounds like a prudent move.

Here's a thought, but it might not be a popular one: have the game in Annapolis. I know there's only 34k for capacity, but I think ND fans (assuming it would be open to crowds) would travel well for that one. I would attend that for sure.

Jack.must not be clued into the Government press conferences. All sports organisations in Ireland are acting as if it is. The questions beingasked are how much beyond August it could be extended e.g. FAI (soccer) asking if there is a possibility a competitive home game in Aviva Stadium the following weekend could go ahead.
To not include sport would be political suicide for the Taoiseach. Government was heavily criticised over an Italian rugby game in early March where the game was cancelled,but some supporters travelled anyway and for allowing Irish horse racing fans return from the UK.
I think the confusion comes from a formal announcement to cancel all local authority event licenses up to the end of August. But the public health advice applies to all gatherings regardless of whether licenses are required. Licenses are not required for sports events in sports venues.

Clemson is a really interesting study because they aren't a blue blood. Bama sucked for a long time, then seemingly overnight Saban led them back to their former glory. But the foundation was there, it did not need to be created from scratch. Saban just out-recruited everyone, badly, and it was a dynasty again. That won't work for ND, because ND will never out-recruit everyone to that level again.
Clemson did it from scratch. I'd like to see someone do a write-up of their formula.
What portion of it was luck (taking a chance on Dabo was almost certainly lucky, no one could have predicted his success). But what about the rest?
How did they keep Venables for so long?
Recruiting practices and strategy? They couldn't tout winning for the first several classes. How did they get to where they are?
Facilities (obviously awesome but what differentiated them?)

Two things IMO:
1. Timing - Dabo and his staff was the recipient of good timing given the falloff from FSU. Clemson was able to fill the void left by the Seminoles and to a certain degree Miami.
2. Stability - Dabo has been able to keep his staff together for the most part during their program rise. Relationships with coaches matter to recruits and Clemson has been able to capitalize on having that stable staff in order to build on those relationships from an early point in the recruiting process for many of these kids.

When looking at Clemson, what I don't think is replicable is becoming the year in year out juggernaut that lands whoever they want on the recruiting trail.
What I do think is replicable, is catching lightning in a bottle with a QB (Buchner) and having a magical season culminating in a Natty, or at least making it heartbreakingly close while legitimately competing. This would be a boost to our recruiting in its own right and would solidify us as a bonafide tier 2 program, but I think there's too many obstacles in place to stop us from becoming Alabama/Clemson of today.

Norvell's gonna take a bite out of Dabo's lil kingdom. Let us all remember, he did this in the vacuum or the only time in my life FSU and UMiami are both WAY down.
So he has a nice place in the south that doesn't have to play all the tough south teams and is guaranteed a slot in the playoffs and a a shot at a title. (as long as Ukelele is another elite QB)
Also, let's not forget UNC. If MAck pulls a 2.0, they are the kinda team that could hang one on ya and ya know what, he's recruiting like a madman right now and already has a difference maker at QB.

Notre Dame did build a brand new practice facility in 2018, so in that sense they are competing. The key difference is ND didn't add all the bells and whistles to it like Clemson did. They made the decision to make it a practice facility only, while Clemson made it a complete hangout for football players only that keeps them away from the rest of the student body.

the new facility being a carbon copy of michigan's was a bit uninspiring to me. they should have pushed the boat out more.

It's important to note that ND's model, from recruiting to educating and integrating players into campus life, is fundamentally incompatible with the football factories' we're constantly getting compared to.

I don't really disagree with you here. If ND still wants to compete for championships, we ought to play to win. Conversely, if our admin decides that the game is too dirty now, and that we can't compete with the current elites without compromising our ethical standards, then we ought to talk to Stanford and other like minded programs about forming a separate league. We're in this weird gray area right now where we're doing things very differently from the other blue bloods and insisting that we can still compete despite several significant self-inflicted handicaps. I'm not convinced that's accurate; but either way, I'd prefer for our admin to just decide and go all-in on it.

Unless you could convince 40 teams to join a league like that, nobody will care. It basically becomes like Ivy League football. My guess is we would be able to attract 10% to 20% (if that) of our typical recruiting targets to sign up for that kind of football.
Yes we are in a gray area. Yes we handicap ourselves. But I will gladly take what we are, than try to go down an avenue where ND football becomes almost meaningless.
