AB will get a chance to impress at the ND Pro Day, but let's be honest. The chances of him or Finke landing on a roster are pretty slim. Would love to be proven wrong.

II, specifically Tom Loy, reporting that Mickens is the staffs preferred choice and has been offered the job. Just waiting to hear his response at this point. He’s the one I’d take of the 3 and be most excited about.

https://247sports.com/college/notre...search-for-a-cornerbacks-coach-143574520/[/B]

"With Mickens, he’s the cornerbacks coach at Cincinnati. I’m told he’d like to receive some kind of promotion, whether that’s Co-Defensive Coordinator, defensive backs coach, etc., but that’s going to be tough to make happen with Clark Lea and Terry Joseph on staff." - Loy

Would "Assistant to the Defensive Coordinator" suffice?

Seriously though, wouldn't a raise and the cache of being the DB coach at ND, compared to UC (no offense, Lion), be enough of an upgrade alone? Not to mention, who knows what kind of movement will happen in the next year or two. It's no secret that Clark Lea is a seriously appreciating commodity in the coaching ranks. If he leaves, reshuffling is inevitable and Mickens could easily get that sought after title upgrade.

He could take the pay raise for 2 years, knowing that he'll jump to be the DC somewhere after 2 years.

I'll take a DEmotion as long as my pay goes up 133-150%.

So if Mickens wants a promotion, tell him to take the job and check his checking account on Fridays.

He is in a really good situation right now and will probably have the opportunity to coach at a higher tier school just by sticking with Fickell. If he's happy there then he is in a position to make this sort of request. I agree that it's unlikely ND grants it.

Mickens could very well be in line for a title upgrade at UC to put him right below DC Marcus Freeman. He's probably just feeling out what kind of negotiating power he's got before he accepts the offer (and probably trying to get a pay raise from Fickell now, too).

I'm sure Mickens would be a home run hire, but really was hoping we'd give Steeples a shot. He seems like he's destined to be a star at some point and a great fit at ND.

Bit surprised Asmar Bilal not amongst them. He would potentially make a strong impression.
Surprised Bilal also didn't get the invite. But, Bilal didn't go to any of the post season senior games. Even Jamir Jones participated in the NFLPA game. IDK if Bilal was recovering from an injury or didn't get any invites or maybe he is done with football?

Sounds like he’s the backup plan and they’ll offer him soon if Mickens fools around.

Just saw this over on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/f15xpe/win_for_the_last_3_years/

It's a break down of best winning percentage over the last 3 years. We're currently 6th, and the only team with a better strength of schedule ahead of us is tOSU (Georgia is right behind us % wise with a slightly better SOS)

[School] [win%]___# of losses. Average SoS

Clemson .931___3L. 4.91 SoS

Bama .904______4L. 4.96 SoS

Ohio st. .904____4L. 6.43 SoS

UCF .897________4L. -1.81 SoS

Oklahoma .857__6L. 5.25 SoS

ND .846_________6L. 5.8 SoS

Georgia .837____7L. 6.18 SoS

LSU .829________7L. 5.4 SoS

App St. .825_____7L. -5.45 SoS

Boise St. .804____8L. -1.07 SoS

Penn St. .794____8L. 5.35 SoS

Wisc .756_______10L. 5.5 SoS

Mich .692______12L

Texas .625_____15L

USC .615_______15L

Neb .361_______23L

BK ain't doin' too badly.

Here's an entertaining article on why safeties should be worth 11 points instead of 2:

Behold the answer: Make the safety worth 11 points.

  1. It has to be really valuable, because it’s really rare and really difficult.
  2. The most unusual scoring play becomes a lot more fun if the scoreboard treats it as such.
  3. But it has to be reasonable, because you don’t want the game to effectively end on a safety.
  4. For maximum fun, it has to be a prime number, because football is already based around threes and sevens. If a team gives up a safety, you don’t want them to get even with a mere field goal or two. If the team allowing the safety scores a touchdown, make them go for two in order to get back within a field goal. Part of the penalty for giving up a safety is that your coach now has to be bold, making the incentive not to surrender one even stronger.

And a similar article on why punting should cost you a point.

How bout:

Safety = 6 + XP / 2 pt conv. for the Defense.
Punts = 1 for D
4th Down stop = 2 for the D
Fumble/Int = 2 for the D... a Pick Six is now a Pick Eight
After 5 sacks/TFL's you enter the bonus and get 1 pt for each additional.

On Off: TD's from greater than 50 = 8 + XP / 2 pt try

+ If the D stops a 2 pt try, they get 1 pt

Sounds like status quo with the timeline being soon for a Mickens decision.

That looks like some Blue/Gold game scoring there.

Still loaded at the skill positions and assuming JT Daniels is back and healthy, they are still dangerous.

I'm curious how successful they will be now that teams have an offseason with film on their OC and QB.

Certainly there is talent there but I wonder if they will lose some of that edge going forward.

This. I was giving some thought the other day to what Lea will do to gameplan against them next season.

I could see USC sitting Daniels against Bama. Don't want a repeat of the FSU debacle.

Given there is a decent chance we are 10-1 going into USC, for our playoff's sake I hope they live up to that. That said, can't see it because of Helton and their loaded schedule.
