Theres a difference between pointing out flaws and calling a kid out after watching bits and pieces of 3 practices. He played today and I know he had at least one catch. I wouldn't be surprised if he is second on the team in catches this season.

Can he "call out" the positives he sees in players after "watching bits and pieces of 3 practices"?

Sure. To say someone looks fast or ran good routes is fair because that obviously doesn't automatically translate to success on the field. But the guy definitely seems to be doubting Mack for this season and we haven't even played a game yet, and he is making that outrageous assumption from watching parts of three practices.

Actually it had a lot more to do with past injuries, suspensions, and the two Freshman TEs who he is very high on. Also, didn't say Mack was done just that it is important that he gets things going or Brock Wright might pass him.

All Mike said was that the new freshmen were looking really good and if Mack didn't start producing then he was in danger of getting passed. Matt then said he hadn't seen Mack make any plays so far this fall and Jamie and Mike disagreed.

It's hard to argue or find fault with this view. The new freshmen DO look like studs, and Alize has not had anything near a productive season. He does need to step up his game or he might get passed. The one thing Jaime added was that there were rumors during recruitment that Alize didn't work hard in HS, because he didn't need to. This could be said about a lot of players, and it doesn't mean they necessarily are true now, it's just another piece of info you can take or leave. If Alize has a great season it means nothing, but if it doesn't, then maybe it has something to do with it. Anwway, you can't really want all reviews to just be glowing positive reviews that tell you want to hear and then leave you disappointed when we lose 4-5 games like normal. Can you?

Any sweet trailers coming out this year to get us pumped up about posting? I know there weren't a lot of highlights last year, but I feel like something is usually out by now.

I need some koolaid.

ND was 4-8 last year, highlights are hard to come by.

Did a quick search and could not find anything recent. Any updates on Justin Yoon? IIRC he had some knee surgery in the off season. Cheers!

Navy transfer Gilman not eligible for Notre Dame in 2017
Sep. 5, 2017 3:35 PM EDT

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Navy transfer Alohi Gilman is not eligible to play this season for Notre Dame.

Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday the NCAA denied the school's final appeal for immediate eligibility instead of Gilman sitting out the usual one year required of transfers. He'll be eligible to compete next season.

Gilman started as a freshman last season for Navy and made 76 tackles. He's a versatile defender who lined up as a defensive back and linebacker.

Safeties Nick Coleman and Jalen Elliott are new starters for the Irish this season at a position where the team struggled last season.

What's with the shamrock stickers on the back of the helmets at practice. They look terrible.

I don't know the rationale for him transferring and playing right away...

was it original...or did someone use it successfully not named Notre Dame?

I actually thought it was fair in comparison to 5th year guys. He fulfilled the commitment necessary before he had to actually commit to being locked into the military. So at that point, what else is he supposed to do if he isn't going to pursue a military career? I think it's very comparable to a guy that graduates and now wants to pursue a masters. He was allowed release under pre determined timing and then pursed a different educational pursuit.

I think ND just doesn't want to rock the boat right now with the NCAA.

I really didn't/don't know what ND offered up as justification/rationale for him playing right away. Sounds like you do at least in a general sense.

But yea...I mean he is in football limbo, and it should be hard for folks to feel good about that. If similar arguments worked for other kids/programs...why isn't he suiting up. As well, I'd also think lots of latitude would be given kids who are working through a decision that might have them coming home in a box. Not saying you encourage kids to bail on the academies, but if the academies let them go...shrug. I get it.

I would think the justification is something like the school (but really the government) broke their promise and could not hold up their end of the agreement to let him pursue a professional career before having to serve, thus that agreement should be void and he should be able to transfer and play right away as if he had signed with that school in the first place. Personally, it makes sense that he should get the waiver, but I could also see the NCAA thinking of the slippery slope of any kid at a service academy who signed before the change being able to tranfer without sitting out.

anyone with info related to former student suing ND in regards to sexual assault from football player?

An unnamed former student filed a lawsuit against Notre Dame on Aug. 17 alleging the University orchestrated the closure of a Title IX sexual assault case to facilitate the transfer of a Notre Dame football player.

transferred to a Power Five football school with a clean record, where he is expected to play this fall, the suit said

In January of 2016, Doe agreed to help an intoxicated Notre Dame football player — referred to as “Jack Roe” — return to his dorm room in Alumni Hall, where she was sexually assaulted, according to the lawsuit. At the time, Doe was enrolled at the Gateway Program at Holy Cross College, a program that facilitates the transfer process into Notre Dame for select students who were not admitted to the University as freshmen.

Doe decided to deal with the incident in a private way by simply avoiding contact with Roe, the lawsuit stated. However, three months after the incident, a female Notre Dame student approached Doe to ask for her anonymous support of a second victim who was hesitant to report an alleged assault by the same football player.

If he transferred in 2016 but is expected to play this fall, it has to be one of the grad transfers, right?
