I must have gotten under your skin with all the name calling you do. Very classy. Too bad you happen to be wrong on so much. I get why you would need to resort to name calling huh?

Academic rigors are not an excuse for crappy scheme, bad recruiting, bad game planning or losing to NW or Duke. Yet you keep offering up excuses.

AW, did someone call you a name? You poor wittle guy! I'm sowwy.

Academic rigors are no excuse for not simplifying things for the players, that is true. They would not be an excuse for bad recruiting, either, if that were a problem. But if you think ND has had crappy recruiting, then you need to put the pipe down and dry out for a few days.

Academic rigors can absolutely affect the game planning, as you can only spend so much time with the kids to install the game plan. The less time you have, the less you can install. This can also affect the outcome of a game. It's not like it will have a huge effect, but it certainly limits what the players can prepare for. The less time in the film room, the less they can diagnose their opponent.

I don't know when you started following ND, but in the past, if you looked at the "Top XX" lists of High School recruits, ND would have about 50-75% of them. ND had the VAST majority of the top football players coming out of High School. So the academics didn't really make much of a difference. ND was just head and shoulders above most other teams, physically. But now there is a lot more parity, in terms of talent. So the academics play a bigger role.

I'm not saying that ND can never again compete at the highest level because of academics. I'm just saying that the academics DO matter, to a degree. Some years, the degree to which they matter will be small enough that we won't see any problems. Other years, it will be large enough that we do. And that's the reality, whether you want to see it or not.

I used to look forward to the post game threads by kmoose. I enjoyed his posts, and thought he was a good poster....

This last year he has been nothing short of an absolute dick to other posters...

People reap what they sow. This whole thing with Scooter started when I questioned how Jack Nolan was being "Anti Freedom of Speech" because he said that he doesn't mind people with dissenting views, but he's tired of people posting snarky crap from anonymous accounts....... that they should own their opinions, or not share them. So then Scooter came at me with "You ok after your little meltdown last night, Jack?" I didn't appreciate the snark, so I referred to him as Nancy. Then he posted this nice little gem:

Kmoose is so off base here it is unbelievable. What a joke.

So yeah, I took offense to him calling me, or my opinion on the effects of academics, a joke. If that makes me an "absolute dick", then I'm ok with that.

I have said this a bunch and feel like a broken record. But If you care about ND football, you should want to root for this team and BK to succeed. I know most don't think he can take us to the top and I know most think he will leave the second he gets a better offer.

However, if people continue to take our ads and fight Js and BK, it will only make the program look like a mess and hurts us. Whats wrong with rooting for BK to go 12-0 next year, and if he goes 7-6 then he is gone, but posting ads doesn't change peoples opinions.. No one saw that and was like Dang, I thought ND was the classic ND program but I am way off, lets fire Kelly, It just brings us negative national attention and is dumb

Taking out an ad in the paper isn't making the program look like a mess. BK and JS are. Nobody is rooting for these guys to fail. I'm pretty sure everyone wants them to succeed and get us to the top, or at least competitive. They're not getting us there though. This team isn't even competitive. It's a joke.

What? That doesn't make sense? Captains named at the banquet? Kizer is probably gone and Webster??? What?

Thought it was weird as well. Webster is the first walkon captain in the history of ND (Joe S was already on scholarship when named a captain)

Kelly wanted to name captains early to set the tone for the offseason

It certainly suggests that. You'd think he and Kelly would have talked it over before BK publicly names him a captain.

I'm thinking Kizer is coming back....I was hoping to see Wimbush next year but if Kizer comes back and tightens up his game a little, we'll still have a great quarterback. Wimbush won't go anywhere.

Kizer is gone, he would be foolish to stay in such a weak QB class. He can go get elite coaching in the NFL, collect a paycheck and learn the game from the sidelines

That's what I was thinking too but this captain thing has me confused now. Hopefully it'll be explained in 247 by morning.

I hope so. Kizer is a good guy it seems but he isn't a vocal leader and makes more bone head decisions than Golson did. His looks lifeless on the field.

I recently joined a Facebook page called ND football uncensored. Here's what Hunter Bivin's mom posted this evening.

"Ok I'm just gonna have to throw a hissy fit here. I'm sooooo sick, so very sick and tired of so called "fans" griping about their team, regardless of WHO it is, (this time it happens to be my youngest son's team)when they have a bad year. If you're basing the entire program solely on ONE season, then you're pretty shallow. "I'm glad the season is over" was one comment. Then my response to you is "find another team." These young men work their butts off the entire year on the field but also academically and ND is very involved in extracurricular activities for the community on a regular basis. I've seen my son much more tense over a final than ever an opponent. My late husband who was a college athlete said "Any team can be beaten any day". And he was right. If you want to support a team them support these young men win or lose. If you can't, then find someone who doesn't appreciate the university and for everything it stands for and be their fan. End of rant, or hissy fit. Thank you."

Good for her! I love it.

To the contrary, our assessment of the Kelly era is not based on one season, but on a consistent record of failure: only 2 seasons with 10+ wins in 7 years; 2-9 vs. the final AP top 10; 6-18 vs. the final AP top 25.

This sort of "support the team, win or lose" mantra is incredibly evasive and manipulative. Everybody "supports the team" in terms of hoping for their development as men of God, as students, and as football players. Not everyone "supports the team" in terms of approving of the current coaching regime or being happy with the results this season.

Anyone who says that they are unhappy that the season is over is essentially saying they want ND to continue to be embarrassed on the football field. Most fans are rightly glad to be rid of this season; the shame is that we are not rid of this coach.

I'm hoping Kizer moves on and Wimbush gets the start. I think Wimbush provides a much larger running threat than Kizer and with a new starting QB, perhaps Kelly will lean more on the run game, rather than trying to put too much on the QB like he did with Kizer.

I'm afraid if Kizer returns, he'll lean on that safety net far too much.

No one who is actively rooting for a team to lose is supporting that team. I'm not sure if that was what Mrs. Bivin was referring to or not, but I have seen plenty of people, just on this board, express their hopes that the team loses big next year. Just so that they can bask in their smugness, knowing that they were "right" about the coaching staff.

Yep... People saying see ya in 2018 when we get a new coach or 2017 is a wasted year.. before the season even starts is not exactly supporting your team
