I don't get this? Why not play them? Michigan vs ND IS college football.

They need us more than we need them. Even if the ACC isn't known for football, our overall schedule is typically stronger than theirs given the only teams worth anything in Michigan's division are tOSU and recently MSU. Easy for them to get up for 2-3 big games a year. We arguably get more tests in most years.

I'd prefer to play teams from the SEC instead of Michigan. I'd love a road trip down to Auburn, Ole Miss, or LSU.

The whole conversation is tilted.

As long as we keep a decent B1GOT team on the schedule, and MSU qualifies, we are good.

There is truth to the fact that UM needs us more than we need them.

There is also truth that it took their fire drill towards the end of the series to realize it. (Read this as no one claims that UM admin, and fans are smarter.)

And that is correct that UM has lived on the strategy of a couple of decent games, and an overall weak schedule for decades. Witness Bo's inability to win the bowl games for what? 19 out of 20?

The fact of the matter is that a UM - ND matchup only benefits UM. It cuts down one decent regional game that ND could schedule. Since the days of 3 B1GOT teams a year are over, and ND seems to be playing the cream of the ACC, in addition to non-conference games like Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia, why does ND need Michigan?

The simple and complex answers are : They don't!

I think we should play Florida. Because they're not Bama and we recruit the hell out of that FL, and they don't have a coach who we know will be great yet.

This wouldn't be terrible, although I think they may have a decent coach, time will tell. Let's schedule a home/home series in November though. Send our boys to Florida when it gets cold, bring the Gators to South Bend and freeze them out. It's a win-win situation, especially for recruiting.

Im an advocate of playing 2 of the 3 FL teams every year revolving. I dont see a great benefit for playing either MI team to be honest. UM only plays ND when it benefits UM (schedule wise) and MS just has always been way too thuggy for their own good when they play ND.

I would also like to see more Cal, UCLA, NC games. I dont think ND owes Stanford anything. Alabama/Louisiana/Mississippi/Texas/Oklahoma recruiting is going to be very rare at best. I understand WANTING those recruits bur GETTING those recruits are very, very far in between due to the local populace worship.

Disagree regarding Texas. We have 7 players from Tx currently on roster, some of which are very good players. That's only slightly less players than we have from nearby Ohio. Texas high school football is big time and there's a large pool of great players, I say we get down there as often as possible for recruiting purposes.

Zero ND benefit. Mich loses and can still play the Rose but winning a two team B10. ND loses and they lose big in chance for playoffs. After all, it isnt like ND's schedule isnt loaded with much better teams than B10 teams.

Or how about pulling a page from Mich schedule book and playing the week after they play Mich St? Im sure they would love to schedule ND after they play their second D-2 school warmup.

Playing in a game between the two winningest teams in CFB history is most definitely a benefit. ND has one of, if not THE, strongest brand in college football. They didn't build that kind of brand by sitting on their laurels. They continue to strengthen that brand, and that is a GREAT benefit to ND.

Im not saying Mich isnt a good school but there are many other good football schools out there that do not screw the schedule so they have an off week or D2 opponent to sleep on the week before the ND game. Besides, MI isnt that great of a talent hotbed when compared to CA, FL, TX.

Just cant shake the Mich screwjob year in year out that they put on ND with that schedule model.

To be fair, Moose, we built that brand by branching out and playing anybody, anytime, anywhere across the country after Michigan blackballed us from the Western Conference back in the day. We stand to lose more than they do given equal losses. The game doesn't do anything for us from a recruiting standpoint. There are plenty of good teams (and better teams) we can play instead of Michigan. I don't see the need to schedule them anymore.

I think we have some upcoming home & home games vs. TAMU on our future schedule. Have seen ND in Baton Rouge, that's a great scene.

Agree, I think ND should find a way to play a game in TX every season (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio). Plenty of match ups to choose from.....UT, TAMU, TCU, Baylor, SMU, UH, Rice. Or a good neutral site for match up vs. LSU or Arkansas.
Hot bed for recruiting, as the SEC is swarming this place ever since TAMU joined them.

Random but eff it. Someone at ND updated the logo at ND around Oct of last year. Mostly all the sports networks ESPN, CBS use this updated logo and the University's color scheme. The colors are not blue and Olive/light gold. So ugly. Please change to those colors and logo for this website. For examples of the logo go to Und.com. Pantone colors are 289 and 117.

Yah well I project a NC Date with Michigan.

EDIT: OSU in the championship game? WTF? With all their losses there is no way. I'll a random object of choice if OSU makes it there.

That would be awesome.

Well, to be fair I think a lot of us were saying Clemson wouldn't be as good last season because they were losing so much prior to the 2015 season.

Clemson didn't lose that many, including a Heisman calibre RB.

When ND can put together a couple seasons of top 20 Defense, then I think they can pull off a Clemson on that side of the ball...but I can't expect it. On offense, they've proven they can be reliable...or as Kelly says, manufacture points. Nds fate really does come down to consistency and some success in a system for more than a year.

Legit think they can make the playoff this year....but since I can't have nice things, I'll go with the Fiesta Bowl.

I like this. Who's saying it?

Also, I owe Sharpley an apology about Stanley.
