I said back at the end of 2014 that 2017 was my target year for a NC. That was until last year when it became obvious that ND would be able to outscore anyone in the country with a team that has two top tier QB's that were going to get even better as they gained experience. Injury cannot derail what the Irish will do in '16, the NFL draft could not derail what ND will do next year because the schedule is lining up with the right teams at the right times - all have new QB's after losing longterm starters... 2016 is now the year.
More than anything you have to look at the schedule and project how the opposition is going to play this season. It's a guessing game, but some seasons are better than others. I thought 2015 could have been the year everything came together. The schedule was favorable and depth was good (Shame we didn't get to break Zaire in more in 2014) but once again injuries became a big issue. 10-2 in the regular season was still pretty good despite the injuries. I'm not sure 2016 is the year though, you may have been right about 2017. We're breaking in a lot of new receivers and lost some linemen (Despite having plenty of talent at both positions, we need to see how they fill in). Defensively we lost some pretty big players, namely Jaylon. I think the schedule is still favorable, and things could work out if we actually stay healthy for once, but that all remains to be seen.
