And I'm from LaPorte Co. I've tailgated at 50 Irish and Bears games where 38 deg. would have been a blessing.
Being from LaPorte county, tailgating anywhere is a blessing!!!

Yet, what is noticeably absent is the theme of us having less "team speed" than our opponents. I cannot tell you how hard that used to make me gag.
"Clearly the Irish are a step slower..."
"And that's SEC speed right there..."
"Just kicked it into another gear and that secondary just lacks the top end to pursue..."
I don't hear that shit anymore. If there was a kernel of truth to not possessing elite team speed, the pundits would not hesitate. Quite the contrary.

I don't know how you kids tailgate nowadays but we start at least 4 hours before kickoff. I haven't had to tailgate this early since the Navy game in Dublin.

I don't know how you oldenheimers count, but Noon(12) - 4 = 8AM, not 9am.

Attention K-Mart shoppers. I AM IN CALIFORNIA.
Flying across the country and playing an early game doesn't affect the team, so getting up early to tailgate for an east coast game when on the west coast shouldn't either. Man up.Attention K-Mart shoppers. I AM IN CALIFORNIA.

So you have to start tailgating at 5AM? Hell, you old guys are always up by then, anyway. And the bonus is that the game will be over in time for the 4pm trip to Golden Corral!

The Irish are playing in their own time zone and "across the country" in this case is a 1hr flight to Pitt on Thursday.
I on the other hand have to leave the bar at 2am PST, get something to eat and drive 30 min home which makes it 3am PST. I then walk the dogs, shower, apply liberal amounts of Irish swag to my sobering carcass. It's now 4am PST. l then watch the pre-College Game Day show on ESPN till 5:15am PST then it's 30 min back to the bar to get the generator & TV set up in the parking lot to catch College Game Day which starts at 6am PST. So in a dark chilly parking lot, in a sweatshirt, cargo shorts and flip flops. I'll be there with some expired Stone Enjoy by 10-31-15 IPA watching CGD and throwing bags with some other highly devoted, long time ND fans in the heart of enemy territory.... waiting for a 9am PST kick off.
That's all I'm saying in typical run on fashion. Go Irish!
Mmmmmmmm Chocolaaaaaate fountaaaaaaain (in my best Homer Simpson voice)

An ND Fan's Brian Kelly Lament.
At 6-6 he's gone, where's the replacement's interview line?
At 7-5 , they may allow him to still carry-on for a time.
8-4 ? The domers may want him to stay a " little more";
At 9-3, the Irish may be knocking on the playoff door !
At 1O-2, the critics will be but a few;
And at 11-1, the NFL will be watching, too !
At 12-1, knocking at the door, for the 1st national championship 27 years;
Any more would bring the most seasoned fan to tears !
Alas, the flag-waivers , the sidewalk fans will have their lame excuses and reason;
To minimize and pigeon-hole the effort of every season !
Though broken bones and torn ligaments are no excuse,
Nothing but bad can happen; it's no use !
that was a terrible mock draft in reviewing it
ND has 4 DEF studs. DL Rochell +Day =menacing. CB Luke sticks like glue. LB Smith-instincts still incons. but great range + more pwr this yr
Luke? As in Cole Luke? OK there Todd.Per Todd McShay
Glad to see Rochell getting some love. Mentions Luke's coverage, but no mention KVR which is not surprising.

Final Thoughts
You want to know why the Notre Dame defense has been giving up big plays? The primary culprit has been a secondary that has too many mental errors and hasn't lived up to their potential. The plays featured here aren't the result of a scheme that's too complex or a former walk-on at middle linebacker. They are the result of errors from players that should know better.
I have no idea why Max Redfield (yellow circle and question mark) would abandon his deep coverage responsibility on this play. No idea whatsoever. I simply don't have an explanation. Hence the question mark.
KVR is in my opinion, even worse (blue box). When he sees Boyd blow by him, he doesn't try and chase. Instead, he turns and starts pointing at Redfield (green arrow). I don't think I've ever seen that from a player. Are you kidding me?
There's no question Redfield screwed up. He should have stayed deep. But Russell should have been deep as well. More importantly, when he sees that Redfield is gone and the best receiver on the other team is running free, KVR should be putting his head down and sprinting to try and make a play. At least make an effort. Instead, he decides to literally point the finger at a teammate mid-play. Wow.

Love my old school......
