It made it back to Starfall years before The War of The Kings. Nobody said that he just got the sword. He also wouldn't just be wielding around the most identifiable great sword in Westoros during fights and such. Carrying it and using it are two different things.

He would be wielding it if he had it. This isn't a giant ceremonial sword lime ice that couldn't be used in battle. So yeah if he had it we would have seen it. My point is that the most likely time for him to have gotten it was right after Dayne's death. I don't see how he could have come into possession of it recently.

I agree that the sword he uses in that trailer doesn't have the same cross guard, but alone doesn't disprove the theory that he has the sword. I can't think of someone else in the story that would be more likely to have it and the sword is obviously important if they keep showing it in the manner they did (in particularly the warged scene of the Tower of Joy). So the sword will re enter the story.

I agree that sword will definitely reappear. GRRM has said that Dawn is still at Starfall and will be there until another SotM is chosen/proves themselves worthy. I don't see any reason to think this Beric is that person.

So you think it would be a smart move for him to break out the most recognizable sword in the realm out in front of a bunch of people that would know who it belonged to? I don't think that is a reasonable assumption. No one said that he got a hold of it recently either. My comment earlier said that I think he got it in Starfall from either his betrothed or his squire, both Daynes. Then he has carried it since, probably knowing that it has significance to his condition of coming back over and over.

No, he said it was in Starfall almost 4 years ago.

Why would he hide it? Unless you're insinuating he stole Dawn. The whole point of the sword is that the person who wields it is the SotM and it's kind of a big deal. Dayne never felt the need to hide the sword, why would Beric if it was given to him?

Yes that's an old quote but what has changed since then? Did the Dayne's find it in an old box of Arthurs clothes and think "hey we should give this to someone. No one is using it here."? It's their family legacy. Why would they give it to Beric out of the blue years after he's no longer associated with their house?

You can't be The Sword of The Morning unless you are a Dayne, which he is not. But the sword, if it is indeed Lightbringer, needs to get to Azor Ahai. Hence the smuggle. What reason would he possibly have to wield it would be the better question.

Ned brought it back to Starfall and gave it to Ashara Dayne. Well, as we all know, Ashara then killed herself. So the only sibling left is Allyria Dayne.... who is betrothed to Beric. So technically, he is holding what will at one point become his family's sword. But he died (twice) before the marriage could take place and he began following the Lord of Light. Who obviously is the puppet master of the Azor Ahai prophecy. If Dawn is Lightbringer, then what do you think the Lord of Light would have Beric do?

Disregard my original request.

I don't want to know, and I have reason to believe that season 8 leaks won't be legit for a while.

Status quo is that accurate leaks don't come out until filming.

Or hacks...

Jon has Dayne blood in him....

but don't think Lightbringer and Dawn are the same sword. Lightbringer is stated as glowing red and flaming during battle; that never happened during The Sword of the Morning's battle with Ned and co. at the Tower of Joy

Just catching up on the ol' DVR and this might have been my favorite episode, period. The two miniscule complaints are that the Dothraki seem a bit OP and the giant crossbow was way too easy to reload. Absolute A+ on the dragonfire effects. THRILLED with Tyrion's "what have I done" expression during the battle. Dany is the bad guy confirmed.

I had no idea all of these swords mattered so much.

So Jon has Longclaw, a Mormont sword.
Ice was melted down and re-made for the Lannisters.
Dawn - unknown. Last known whereabouts, Tower of Joy? House Dayne?
Lightbringer - Stannis' sword. Only in name, not by legend?

The true Lightbringer - is this where the theory that Beric has it in his possession?
I don't think Longclaw is actually a Mormont sword. It's too old when you go back and looks at the histories of House Mormont and House Stark. Longclaw predates Ice.

Seriously? NOW Gendry is back? The Young Bull hype! The seed is strong!

Omg I'm so excited. I don't know if there's any such thing as a Valyrian steel hammer but I sure hope so.

What did letter say? And was it a fake plant by Littlefinger?

Also, this 8 man expedition north of the wall must be the worst idea ever.

Little Finger's letter said Snow died from wounds inflicted by Daenarys.

Little Finger arranged it to get Arya to leave.

The 8 man expedition was The Lord of Lights plan.

It's to bring Lightbringer into Snow's hand... and show it's power.

Wooly told us all.

Beric is gonna give Lightbringer to Jon, and Jon is gonna give Longclaw back to Mormont. Anti-Walker mayhem will ensue.

JON IS LEGITIMATE, AND GILLY TOLD US, AND SAM MISSED IT.

So hype for next week. Shit is gonna pop off beyond the wall, and Winterfell has some political intrigue brewing.

Still don't think Dany is the bad guy, though. There's gonna be a "come to Jesus" moment in season 8 where she can be Mad Queen or she can settle down and play nice, and Jon's gonna bring out the best in her.

GRRM built a fantasy world upon the corpses of the usual tropes, and our payoff will be a semi feel-good ending where Jon and Deny reign, with a bunch of heartbreaking bitter-sweet things built in, ala the Grey Havens in Tolkien's world.

Nah, the camera focused on the name Joffrey. It was an old letter for real. Not sure what Arya takes from it, unless it's about Sense being loyal to him, and Arya gets pissed.

I thought it was the letter Sansa sent Robb.

- Lord Targaryen... King of The North isn't suitable for that name alone. It shall be interesting with what Dany feels about that.
- How do y'all think Jon will find out? Sam didn't even flinch at the words of Rhaegar annulling his marriage. Interestingly enough, it hit me when he was reading the scroll that typically Maesters are also the ones that deliver children. They didn't show one in the warg scene, and I don't recall them mentioning it the books. But could the Maester that annulled and remarried Rhaegar also be trusted to deliver his child? If so, I would also assume that he recorded it. The show made great effort to make it clear that he records EVERYTHING. (Including his shits, what's up with the poop fetish with the writers? Ha)
- The Littlefinger story is interesting. Without Jon there, how can Arya kill his ass without the Vale getting pissed?
- Gendry and the War Hammer is beast mode.
- Does Jaime kill a bitch next week?

It was a puzzle reshuffle as I expected, and they did a great job with it. Next week is the finale already? Geez.

Is Arya still a step ahead of LittleFinger? Are they setting us up with that last shot? There is no way Littlefinger is more clever than Arya at this point, right?

Upon further review:

That was NOT Dawn in Beric's hands, but it DID spontaneously catch fire.

R'hollor ain't playing games North of the Wall.

Does that mean the sword, though not Dawn, IS Lightbringer? Or is it just a gift of fire in a time of need from the Lord of Light?

Arya is deceptive due to "just a girl" teachings. I think she is.

But I got the wounded individual wrong. It was an old parchment. Joffrey was the wounded.

Where did we get that? Beric has been carrying the flaming sword since Season 1. Why are we concluding that it's the ACTUAL lightbringer?

I don't recall that sword going full on apeshit mode.

I took it that way. It's gonna be interesting how they explain it. What's weird is the breadcrumbs are there for it to be Dawn, but they take good care to let us see Dawn several times and the sword that Beric has isn't it. Does his sword do it as well as Dawn? Or did they reforge Dawn? I don't know, but It should be fun to see how it plays out.

Btw, the scroll was the one that Sansa wrote under duress to Rob. Littlefucker planted it for Arya to find. It reads:

Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King's Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark.

No he hasn't. He set it on fire by cutting his hand and putting his blood on it when he fought the Hound, now it spontaneously ignites.

This episode was badass. Next week is about to be the most badass episode ever. I except 30+ minutes north of the Wall. This season is officially lit.
