Dany could totally still go off the rails and nuke King's Landing.

There is compelling evidence that the show is trying to make her look like a potential 'Mad Queen' while giving ACTUAL evidence that she is definitely NOT... but I'm almost banking on her fucking up and killing a bunch of innocent folks.

Jaime kills Cersei in the flames and the confusion while Jon kills Euron, and Arya does something cool again, and Tyrion shakes his head in shame at watching it all unfold. Varys dies at the hands of Qyburn's little birds, while Sam kills Qyburn for being an affront to the Maesters. Clegane overcomes his fear of fire to kill the UnGregor amidst the burning of the city.

It can all still go down.

I think Tyrion will be responsible for Euron's death. His story is not going to end with a fuck up. Jon is going to kill Dany to save Sansa.

Arya doesn't get another big moment. I like the idea of Sam killing Qyburn.

Cersei is responsible for Brienne's death. Jaime kills Cersei/his baby and then kills himself.

How exactly is it "shitty" that they wrote a plot that had Cersei betraying everyone because it's the only way she can conceivably keep the throne? That is complete on brand and on character, makes perfect sense, and is way more plausible than her sending her army north to be buddies with the Targs/Starks.

She needed them to fight NK first, hoping that he would wipe out her enemies for her and keep the throne. I think in her mind if she died then fighting the NK then she was the last queen ever, which I think she would be fine with in her messed up mind.

I think they might need Arya for another big moment, unless they want Brienne or Greyworm to kill the leader of the Golden Company.

I assume Pod and Bronn will be connected... I'm hoping Pod convinces Bronn not to kill the Lannister brothers.

I was also kidding about Sam, but he IS Sam the Slayer now.

I was just trying to pair characters with reasonable counterparts for the final drama lol.

Melisandre's final appearance:
  • Shows up out of the blue (or black, rather) without explanation;
  • Lights some Dothraki swords on fire (which doesn't stop them from getting absolutely slaughtered);
  • Nearly fails to light the trench on fire before the wights charge;
  • Exchanges some ominous stares and words with Arya;
  • Somehow survives the zombie apocalypse, yet walks toward the dawn, removes her magic amulet, and dies in the snow without ever revealing who she really was.

That fire witch was completely useless. Asking the DM not to invite her back next week.

I agree with Whiskey and Wiz. Should have reversed the story arc and had Danny nuke King’s landing upon reaching Westeros, which begins her descent into madness. Jon offs her as a result, that sets up final confrontation against the army of the dead.

Again,
Jon "failed" at killing NK (water/ice).
Jon "is going to fail" at finishing Cersei (Lion)
Jon "is going to succeed" by taking out mad Dany (Lover)

The show writers event mentioned how "Arya was the hero at Winterfell and Jon was the one that 'fell' during battle".

Jon has a really, really big purpose left. And it sure as hell better not be "marrying Dany and living happily ever after"...So...

I know I just lurk here mindlessly as I stopped watching the show years ago, but I have thought this since I heard about what happened to Stannis... I thought it was a prank when I first heard it.

Which, with the amount of fan service HBO hands out, it may actually happen. No way in hell that is GRRMs vision. Refuse to believe that is his "bittersweet" ending he has promised.

Honestly, I'm starting to be of the mindset that we have to have a happy ever after ending. I want to see Jon and Dany mow down king's landing, melt down the throne, create a peacable world where gay, straight, wildling and trans people can live in harmony.

And the camera pans out as they all turn to the camera with big cheesy smiles and wave.

I would seriously love that. I would know that everyone in the world was about to have universal consciousness aneurysm.

And I would be erected.

This thread reminds me of football season. Expectations so high that you can’t enjoy what you’re watching.

In all seriousness, after reading what you, wiz and others have posted, I'm really glad I didn't read all of the books. Sounds like I'd enjoy the show far less. Right now, I'm mostly content with the surface-level elements being tied together and I'm not forcing myself to think about it any deeper.

That's all I want from the last three episodes: better CGI, Cersei's death, an end to this saga. This season hasn't been among the best they've had but it's at least getting us to the finish line.

I feel you. Given that GRRM is unlikely to finish the series before he dies, I kinda wish I could unread the books myself. Would allow me to enjoy the show so much more. It's an incredible accomplishment on its own merits.

Is there anyone worse than Mallory Rubin?

I would be completely shocked if she was married or even had a boyfriend. I can't fathom someone wanting to spend more than 5 minutes alone with her.

Edit: I kind of feel bad for typing that out. But yeah, I'm not a fan.

White Walkers apparently are evil for the sake of being evil villains. Their motivations don't matter.

Yup. It sucks. A show with so much lore and reason and this is what you get?

Agreed on that, I think it's pretty absurd none of those people died in a battle where 90% of the soldiers did.

I was close to betting money on Greyworm dying because it was a surefire bet yet...

So the NK turned out to be Snoke.... GoT edition.

Hah. So true. That was a freaking let down.

I could get behind that, but I don't think it holds water at all.

It's well established in GoT lore that the White Walkers were created by the Children to defend the Children from the First Men.

However, the White Walkers got out of control, and the NK decided it was his mission to end both the Children (for creating them against their will) and Men (for being their original enemy).

There's no reason that they would be "good" or why they would stop after killing Bran. They're coming to kill errybody, because they were created to end lives.

Except that the WW clearly have some kind of arrangement with men as to why they did not attack sooner. What, the Night King needed exactly 100 of Crastor's sons?

The Long Night was 8,000+ plus years ago, so it seems like the producers needed to at least provide an answer for, "Why now?" Was it the birth of Dany's dragons? Bran's becoming the new 3EC?

Some fans expected a grand twist with the White Walkers being simply misunderstood, but that always struck me as supremely unlikely. GRRM likes to undermine fantasy tropes a bit, but you can only go so far without ruining the story. But on the flipside, you've got to offer some explanation for what just happened. The Big Bad was finally dispatched after nearly 70 hours of screen time, and yet we learned very little about the how and the why behind the White Walkers.

Is Westeros safe for another 8,000 years now? Could the CotF make a new NK tomorrow and threaten everyone with total annihilation again? We don't know.

This story is the GOAT in terms of time committed to ultimately pointless and/or dead end storylines... I'll bet that once the final resolution is known and all tied up someone could go back and cut over half of everything else without it really impacting the main story at all.

A bit harsh, I'm glad you put in your edit. Also I think she's married, I seem to recall hearing that on a Thrones podcast a couple years ago.

Yup. If you go back and watch old seasons there are entire arcs that are completely abandoned.

That's partially just due to the way GRRM works. He "gardens', he plants seeds and sees where the story takes him. The good thing about the books is that those vines are like branching storylines, when he drops something it's in service of other threads that converged or took their place.

The show just drops stuff for no reason.

Kind of? At least with the show you wouldn’t have to read through 500 pages of soon to be dead plot,... it’s not a good or bad thing really, but it def didn’t always sit well with me during my first series read through. I say first bc I may/not re read it all if it’s ever completed. Feeling cute, may reread ASoIaF later, idk.

Idk I think that will mostly hinge on TWOW. For me at least everything through ASOS flew by. I must have read all three of those in under 2 months. Then with AFFC I felt the slog set in. A lot of that might be alleviated though if all the conclusions it and ADWD were setting up are as satisfying as everyone hopes.

Also supposedly reading 4 and 5 spliced together as they were origionally intended helps that experience. Idk though, haven't tried that yet.

Feeling cute, may reread ASoIaF later, idk.

LOL
