For the debris - for items that aren't toxic, do they just leave it for the fishes? Or is it totally removed so that ships don't run aground on it?

(Probably a dumbass question, but I'm lazy and maybe it helps the wildlife?)

It is a fairly narrow channel and is dredged out from time to time. These ships have a good amount of draft (how much water they displace) and if left would be a significant navigational hazard. The shipping lane is about 50 feet deep.

Zilwaukee bridge in Saginaw always freaks me out too
I take the Zilwaukee several times a year to head to the Oscoda when we go up north. I always hold my breath as I'm not a fan of heights, either.

I hate when you're in stop and go traffic on it if you're heading back on a holiday weekend. Terrifying.

My only regret is that I couldn’t tell this joke before Koon was banned.

Koon: Nobody bothers me I don’t even notice these losers.

Also Koon:

You need a few Koon-lite dissidents on a board. They help drive discussion and traffic with opposing viewpoints, no matter how outlandish they are at times. A little drama is the spice, but too much spoils the sauce. That's kind of Koon's problem, he doesn't know when to pull it back and goes too far.

I hate bridges. I had a monthlong training in California, Maryland. I forget the name of the river but it was one of those fat ones in the chessapeake area...had to drive over this big ass bridge a couple times a day. When it was heavy bumper to bumper slowed down traffic....I'd have borderline panic attacks.

Also tunnels...I don't care for tunnels.

I did a marathon in 2022 that took us through the Windsor tunnel underneath the Detroit river....longest mile of my life haha

Bridges never bothered me until I was old enough to find out what happened to the sunshine skyway down in Florida going down to see my grandparents every summer growing up. Ever since then it's a hurry up and get the hell off affair. My wife closes her eyes going across choctawhatchee Bay headed to destin cause I'll roll 80 across it if traffic allows

I hate going to destin because of the bridges. Took us 4 hours to get back to Fort Walton one night because the bridge connecting Okaloosa to FWB got ran into by a boat so they closed the bridge

I lived in the Apts right next to the 35W bridge when it went down They were visible in just about every shot from the air. I was a bartender at a bar on St. Anthony Main, just down the street from where it collapsed. I happend to be at my parents house about 30 mins away when it collapsed, but was working at the bar the next few nights. The cars they pulled out of the river were loaded on trucks and driven past the bar. Pretty nuts.

I didn't really care for bridges after this

My buddy had just traveled over the Scott City Bridge in Missouri 15 minutes prior to it collapsing in 2013, shook him up good.

Bridges don't bother me as long as I'm moving. If I'm stopped I get a bit anxious. Walking them is another matter. I once tried to cross over a 150 yard long railway bridge that was suspended over a river. I got about 1/4 way across and said "Nope!" before I turned back. Looking down below between the planks and seeing the rushing water was tripping me out. Didn't help I was still a little buzzed walking back from my buddy's house New Years' morning. Ended up having to take the long way home which added another couple hours of walking.

I can definitely see that. I drove to Philly this weekend for the 'Hawks game (5-1 blowout! Somehow, I'm at .500 seeing the BHawks this year) and would have taken the bridge. As it was, all of the road displays had warnings that the route was closed. A little eerie.

Reminded me of this - Chunks of concrete fell off the Gardiner Expressway onto Lakeshore Blvd.

If you're ever in Toronto stay away from the gardiner if you're worried about bridges. Literally falling apart, and I've seen chunks of cement on the road multiple times a year.

Divers that do demo are a rare breed. Not many around. Wonder if the Maryland bridge collapse and demand to rectify it quickly will generate are relative demand elsewhere?

The navy demo guys whose enlistments are coming up might be getting some nice offers!
