I have no idea but I’d find it hard to believe they would be held liable for the entire value of replacing it with a new bridge considering its age and condition at the time of the accident. If I was their lawyer I’d most certainly make the argument that the they shouldn’t be held liable for the full replacement of an aged bridge built to previous building codes and performance requirements. A new bridge will most certainly have design and detailing requirements the old bridge did not thereby increasing the cost to to design and construct a new code compliant bridge nAnd isn’t that 100 million the most they could sue for?
I remember hearing on one of the local new stations that there was some kind of maritime law that the owner could only be responsible for so much.
