Saw the tweet from Sampson mentioning FSU, Pitt and Syracuse. If these schools don't get their act together rather quickly, the ACC will be forced to postpone or cancel the season.

Then we will just be left with independents and whoever jumps ship.

Nebraska might think about it.

IMO, people need to take things with a grain of salt. Yes, FSU has a player... a single player... talking about testing malfeasance. There is no corroboration of that yet. Pitt is resuming practice, and paused practice specifically because they're being diligent/cautious. Syracuse is the tricky one to follow; but it's also in New York and an irrelevant school. No one cares if someone like them or Wake Forest decides to cancel their season.

On a small scale, losing players to COVID will be no different than losing them to injury or other illness. The difference, as you said, is that because of how it spreads it is possible/plausible to lose a bunch of players from a single position group all at once. That's going to be the crazy thing to monitor.

Gov. Cuomo will be onsite today to do their temp checks and get them "back in line".

I see that Cuomo was elected unanimously to be President of the National Governors Association. He was their vice-president.

BK on Michael Mayer:

"..is a guy that has innate ability. Size, quickness, escapability as he releases off the line of scrimmage. He's a pretty impressive young man in everything that he has done." Said he will contribute right away, doubt anyone is surprised there.

He also praised Kevin Bauman. "Here's a guy, if he's not coming in at the same time as Mayer, everyone is talking about him. he's a really good tight end. He's a guy I don't think we can hold off the field either. Been very impressed with him early on."

That's awesome news, we have a lot of tools to play with at TE. Wouldn't be surprised to see a mix of Tremble/Wright/Mayer on the field together quite a bit. That's not even mentioning Takacs who came on strong late last season. Really deep group.

I believe someone else already mentioned Tyree is really standing out and will see the field. He also highlighted the young Freshman CBs defensively. Basically said they don't necessarily have to play as freshman but they've shown him some really good traits.

Daydreaming of the possibilities of Tyree and Jafar on both sides of Book. Lot of options with those two out of the backfield.

Are we being delusional to hold out hope for a fall football season? A college campus (with dormitory living, large parties, and free movement around campus) is ripe for the spread of COVID-19. And we should remember, our football team is not living in a bubble. If COVID-19 has been detected on campus, it will spread.

What happens in the event that they actually play, and the whole QB room all gets infected?

This season could be wild lol

Depends. I’m expecting it to be cancelled but hoping for a miracle.

they built open dates into the schedule so individual games could be postponed without cancelling the entire season. this sounds like the type of situation they were thinking of.

I’m fine with ND holding out until the last minute to cancel b/c it keeps them in the public eye for what has, so far, been positive PR. They’ve been praised for their handling of the situation as well as providing reassurance to potential commits & their parents of how their sons will be taken care of.

Obviously, the general student body could change everything as they’re already seeing spikes, but so far ND has gotten good PR out of this. And for a “conservative” university (when it comes to athletic decisions) to still be considering football it shows recruits that they are serious about competing provided the safety is ensured. This could offset the negative recruiting by coaches who say “ND is too anti-football to cut you any slack as a student”.

That being said, I think they eventually do have to give in and cancel the season.

The main issue, as others have said, is the return of other students + the corresponding off-campus activities. I think we’ll know within two weeks how ND (and other schools) are or are not managing the virus.

I’m guessing the ACC status will ultimately affect ND but the consensus down south seems to be that the games should be played in this fall. I would expect them to call it at the last minute though. SC has still had relatively high cases up to date.

Ultimately I think the economic impact to Clemson municipality will be too much to cancel the season.

5 Clemson, South Carolina [map]

In 1943, Calhoun, North Carolina, renamed13 itself Clemson, after the local Clemson University. This event speaks volumes about the importance of Clemson University, home of the Clemson University Fighting Tigers, to the town. Today the town has a population of nearly 12,000, while the university has almost 20,000.

Clemson University has an outsize economic impact14 on the entire state, generating $115.3 million in South Carolina. On average, a Clemson Tigers home football game is responsible for sustaining 198 jobs and producing $10.3 million in total output, $733,000 in net state revenue, and $542,000 in net local government revenue.
While modest to some other parts of the country, this loss would be devastating to the city and school.
