Watch that clip closely. Hamilton's footwork....He picks them up and puts them down so fast which allows him to turn his hips in the blink of an eye.

Brian Kelly on stopping the run (ad lib/summary):

"Julian Okwara and Khalid Kareem are a big part of that. They get talked about as if they're one dimensional, but they are really elite defenders."

This would be near the top of the list of underrated positives of Fall Camp. Adding him and Hamilton to the secondary in Nickel and Dime packages adds a lot of flexibility. And, as of today, a healthy 6th year Crawford seems like a steal for the 2020 roster. Steal, I tell ya.

Agreed. Hope he can stay healthy.

BK also said Bracy had a really solid camp.

All of a sudden losing a guy or two on the back-end seems like less of a doomsday scenario.

Then there was the non-smartass portion of the answer. CAT scan after four weeks, if the "inside" of the bone has healed he'll be cleared to practice. Then it depends on how much the player can handle.

It's not just a smartass reply. He's tired of receiving the "when do you expect him back" to a question that is variable. Google it: 4-10 weeks is the general consensus.

If Crawford stays healthy this year and balls out like we expect him to, I don't think he will stick around for a 6th year given his injury history.

I mean, I guess he could but you don't actually think he'd be drafted, do you? Him being a valuable part of this defense and an asset to the 2020 roster doesn't make him a viable draft guy. FWIW, he would of been the smallest DB at last years combine both in height and weight. Who has had 2 seasons ended by ACL's before they started and almost all of a 3rd due to a torn achilles. I love me some Shaun Crawford but going from never being healthy, to a valuable member of this team, to a draftable player isn't very realistic over the next 6 months.

I think it's more likely that Crawford retires for medical reasons than leaves for the draft after this season.

Sadly, this is where the money has to be. I hope Crawford can stay healthy all of '20, he deserves at least a full season after all his setbacks.

Watching the assistant coach interview segments on the II YouTube page...

It is incredibly bizarre to watch "He'll always be" Tom"my to me" Rees on the podium. A recruit with a profile page on this site is now a coach.

If Crawford can stay healthy and he's got that swag back, we could be seeing a lot more of his disruptive nature again. The play that broke the Spartan's backs:

Catching up on some reports from around the web... I hope the beat guys aren't just pumping sunshine, because some of the developments that have been noted from the first actual "game prep" practice were like "best case scenario" stuff.

Drew White is the guy at MIKE. I feel like it's a big deal that he's practicing well enough to have separated himself. Elko/Lea pegged him as the MIKE of the future based on his experience against a tough schedule in high school, and because of his instincts... seems like he's putting them on display.

Bilal is at BUCK, but the light is finally coming on for Shayne Simon. Could be a 1a/1b situation, and Simon will probably continue to get better with more game action.

Bramblett is figuring the punting thing out and suddenly looks really good? That's a really good development, actually, when you think about how good our defense can be when the opposing offense is pinned back and Lea knows what's coming.

Keys standing out not just to the ND beat reporters, but to the national reporters that watched practice prior to media day. He's gonna be a problem in the slot for every LB that has to cover him, and he's going to give most safeties problems, as well. Finke has been playing outside in Young's spot.

IAN BOOK HIT ON ALL HIS DEEP BALLS IN THE FIRST GAME PREP PRACTICE.

They will be using THREE (!!!) back sets this year. Armstrong/Jones/Smith is the rotation, but Kyren Williams will play a lot as the 4th RB. He'll be on the field for the 3-back sets, because either he or Armstrong can split out and run routes as well as most WR's.

Crawford started at CB opposite Pride. Could have been a precaution to limit Vaughn and Griffith, and to see if Crawford can hold up on the outside if needed... it went just fine. It helps that Bracy looks like a legit option as a slot corner.

There were also reports in plenty of places that noted the usual stuff (Claypool being dominant, Wu being Wu, Jurkovec continues to look good), but the above points are notable because they answer some important questions, IMO, and signify that the floor for the program continues to be much higher than it was previously.

Even with injuries and questions, the program is healthy enough that the bottom isn't going to drop out like it did at the end of '14 or throughout '16*.

Also, I read somewhere last night that the OL continues to look good whenever they are pulling guys... that's good, because with Ian as a quick-decision maker at QB, he's going to hurt some defenses on the backside by pulling the ball or throwing into empty spaces while the defenders are keyed on the hogmileys stampeding down the line.

The only thing I'll contend is the RB rotation. If Armstrong Jones are 1a/1b then I think Smith/Kyren W are 2a/2b.

It sounds like Kyren is making a move and showing enough to Kelly and staff, they are already scheming ways to use him. I haven't heard anything similar about Smith, just that he's had a good camp and seeks out contact.

It's pretty wild to think that we went 12-0 last year, and on offense it's probably widely accepted that were better at:

- QB
- TE
- OL
- WR

Only worse at RB.

That's pretty freaking cool.
