They aren't considered Latino by other Latinos. Argentinians like to see themselves as more European and thus arrogant. Even small things like the type of outlets they use in their homes, are of European standard rather than the same as the rest of south america.
That's because they are of European descent. Argentina was a sparsely populated country and Chile was threatening to annex a good chunk of the empty land. So they invited millions of Europeans to come live on the land, farm it, ranch it, mine it, etc.

They all got free land and a new oppurtunity in life and Argentina became a much stronger nation.

Thanks for the responses. The depth of my fandom towards Argentina pretty much stays on the field. As far as dirty play, I definitely notice how some of their players aren't afraid to cross a line. But then again, it seems every team has a player or two who play the same way. As someone who is a very casual fan of the sport, it's easy for me to say, "See, they all do it," and continue watching without much sway of opinion.

Nazi joke aside - I think if your parents and grandparents are direct immigrants from Italy, it is pretty fair to carry yourself as European decent. Much of the infrastructure of the country looks European because it is. From an immigration standpoint, much of what you see as current Argentina came over in the early 1900s - younger than America even in a lot of respects. The history of that is a whole other story…Will be interesting how it ages in the next two generations.

They aren't a Latino nation. They are a white nation. 85% white.

Uruguay is also a white nation. 88% white.

Things I learned while watching the world cup. Along with the existence of Cape Verde.
Oh,I know... I have heard it all the time... Europe in South America. I do not care, but the level of hate toward them made me do some digging.

That's actually the point of the song though.
The song itself wasn’t my point, obviously with so many taking it as such I communicated poorly which is a tendency of mine,… the point was the implication of ‘coming home’ in general,… and their fans believe it’s absolutely their world that they 100 percent created from scratch and we all just lucky enough to live in, with their full chest,.. song or no song.

Anyway, I guess Bellingham was caught striking an Argentine player after the game,.. curious where that goes

I don't follow soccer that closely. Pretty much just a WC fan. Can someone explain the hate for Argentina? Personally, we love watching Messi play in our household. My son is a huge fan of his. We've been pumped watching Argentina win these matches.
I mean... they're spanish speaking nazis. What's to like about them.

I suppose that this (crazy) "Nazi" commentary is some crude easy joke, but the Argentinians since the 1950s have tried hardest to emulate the United States in how they run their economy. Brazilians tended to dislike them for being South America's "Yankees" and Argentinians thought of the Brazilians as loose-with-the-brain kooks. The Argentinians went strongly in with the United States to purchase military equipment and had standing US military advisors on site -- and trained pilots in the US. They pushed their agriculture to emulate US agriculture emphasizing beef and high-protein production .. also note that your off-season vegetables often came from there. What they didn't have was the Oil. That limited what they could do. If one really wanted to talk "hidden Nazis", one should read the history of those countries and you'd find a much darker hidden cache in Paraguay and Bolivia. ... but this must just be a meme joke poorly understood, as Hidden Evil Nazis in Argentina disappeared into Capitalism long ago.

In addition I live in a Mexican household and the hate for the Argentines is intense.. They call them rasict, arrogant and thinking they are above the rest of the latino nations. Me, I love to cheer for Messi, and it also irritates my wife which is an excellent by-product..

I was cheering for England, but boy they bottled it.
Lol mexico fans can't be upset and call other fan bases racist

Shitting on Argentina when Spain effectively is run by communists that are enemies of the U.S.
There are five members of the Communist Party of Spain in their Congress of Deputies which seats 350. Zero in the senate out of 266. Zero in European Parliament.*

Spain and Argentina are both good at basketball now. So is France.

Leave our best athletes where they are and fix our stupid ass youth system in soccer. The end.

People saying this stuff about Argentina always makes me wonder if the same people are even aware of Operation Paperclip. And that's just one part of the government looking the other way on Nazis and collaborators if they were useful.

But hey, they helped built rockets and spy on the Soviets, so those former Nazis aren't so bad, despite the atrocities they committed. The ones in South America sucked, though. Because reasons.

I guess there is an argument that using Nazis for their knowledge and skills to win the Cold War isn't quite the same as just providing the most heinous of them with their own Del Boca Vista retirement community. The US took rocket engineers. Argentina took the guys that engineering the holocaust.

No doubt Messi and many Argentinian players are generational talent and they have a long and storied football history, but...

There is a history and a reason that a lot of Latin Countries have a long-time hatred of Argentina and its football team... Another perspective.
