So I go on Vaca and unplug for a couple days and BVB turn everything upside down... Interesting.

Loving seeing Celtic on ESPN right now tho...

You just signed that fucking legend Kolo Toure. I'm jealous, not gonna lie. He is still very solid and was great in the EL final. No pace left so I don't know how that will work with a high line, but he's still got it. Enjoy him.

Some defender from Turkey with an above average rep and Scott Sinclair is who they are focusing on now... If they get both.... Six is secured... And then some.

For some reason, I just cant bring myself to get excited about the MLS. Something about it just feels a bit cheesy when I watch it. How do you all approach it compared to watching the BPL, La Liga, Serie A, etc.

I approach it as our league,... It's grown by leaps since I've been on board,... Night and day, it's a legit league dude.

On that note, it's funny to me, you can almost always find an NASL game on, MLS needs to take notes,... now the NASL is a bit cheesy, but I still watch and enjoy it... MLS is light years ahead in many ways but not so much in others, but still... It's our league, and I'm all in... Watching NYCos v Tampa Bay right now... Enjoying it much more than any EPL game I've watched in years...

I watched 15 or 20 minutes of an NASL game last night ... Ottawa v. Jax. It was really, really poor. Neither team could keep possession for very long, both teams were just relying on long balls ... it was pretty excruciating to watch. I was not impressed with the product from a technical, tactical or athletic perspective.

Maybe the quality varies by team though? Doesn't Tampa Bay have Joe Cole, former England star? Might be worth checking them out.

A game I did enjoy watching was LA Galaxy v. Portland Timbers. Nice win for the Galaxy. And in Portland, wasn't it?

I have seen a couple of NASL games that are hard to watch, the Tampa NYC game was not lacking for possession or relying on long balls... the Portland game was great, 2-0 before the seats got warm... and yeah, in Portland.

If you are hungry for entertaining soccer that is NOT the MLS and as you wait for the EPL, watch the top teams in the USL on the east side.

Louisville, Cincinnati and New York Red Bulls II all play good, entertaining soccer. Haven't seen Rochester yet, but they beat Cincinnati recently, and there's a rematch this Saturday.

I don't watch a whole lot of upper-level soccer yet, but I've watched some MLS. The individual skill is obviously not on the same level, but the top teams in the USL aren't playing boring, uninspiring or ugly soccer, either. They do a good job of putting good soccer on display for the most part.

Disclaimer: In addition to my lack of familiarity with NASL/MLS, I'm also a Cincy homer. I'm hoping they hear good news on the MLS expansion front soon, despite barely being a full year old.

I have heard nothing but great things about FC Cincinnati. I recall reading that Crystal Palace was blown away by their reception there. Best pre-season friendly atmosphere ever. Pardew called it "like a cup final." It sounds like they've really got something exciting going on down there.

I'd love to catch more (any) USL, but it's just not on TV in my area... I can catch a NASL game pretty much any day of the week, obviously a number are replays,... I am not exaggerating when I say it's much easier to find NASL games than the MLS... heck even for LIVE games it's about even... oh well. You'r comment on the quality is how I feel about the NASL from what I've watched... there are some games I tune out quickly on, but for the most part, it's noticeably lower than the MLS but not so bad as to not be enjoyable and watchable.

And for quality you say? EPL you say?... this freakin guy... F that F'in pub league... For top quality Euro action,... Bundesliga, or get the fvk out!

I'm super looking forward to the Scottish Prem this season too... Hearts and Huns both back?? yesir.

The Crystal Palace game was spectacular. The stadium was sold out, every seat (almost literally) filled before kickoff, and definitely ever seat was filled no later than 5 mins in. The match was entertaining in the first half. Palace scored a pretty nice goal early on a defensive breakdown in the middle from about 35 yards out, but Cincy held their own for the most part. They had one really golden opportunity to even it up in the first half, and I have never heard the crowd build to such a roar on a shot like that.

It was a good game, but an even better atmosphere. Palace probably earned themselves ~30,000 new fans in the Greater Cincinnati area, too. The whole Palace squad and their manager made a really good impression as visitors.

Yeah, you can catch games on local TV or on ESPN3 occasionally, but you have to tune to USL's Youtube page for most of them. If you're bored on a Wednesday night or Saturday afternoon/evening, check the page and see if any teams listed on live streams catch your eye, and give it a shot.

The video quality is usually fantastic and in HD with no issues... the announcing teams aren't always great, and some venues don't provide great camera work in terms of angles and tracking the ball to the corners, but that's how it goes with minor league stuff, it's hit and miss.

We're spoiled with FC Cincy, though, as Nippert provides perfect camera work (it's a college football venue, so duh) and the announcers are really good. They've put on a really good product thus far, and I'm hoping the MLS is willing to waive their rules on needing to build a new venue.

Celtic in a bad way currently,... Multiple CBs are hurt and now all they have to take to Kazakhstan, against a team and in a venue that multiple Euro teams have struggled at recently, including Real Madrid, are a teenager with no experience and,... you guessed it,... Efe 'All I do is give up goals' Ambrose... A kid, and the worst regular defender in recent Celtic history... And that's literally it.

I'm calling it now, Wednesday could get real ugly.

I don't get why he isn't bringing Kolo Toure. Is he not fit? Unless there is an injury, he should be. Not like he was on int'l duty over the summer. And he finished last season in pretty good form, generally preferred over Skrtel down the stretch.

I think fitness would play a role but I don't even think Toure is eligible, he was signed after the deadline.

Just do what Bayern/Barca do, play Defensive Mids deep and play a possession based game(never watched Celtic, dunno if they can ball that way). Defense is an art but for a game some boys can do it.

Fify, and no they aren't one of the handful of teams on the planet that can do that.

Idk how much preseason you guys have been watching or following, but it has been a good one for Americans so far.

--Cameron Carters-Vickers has been great for Tottenham at center back. He is just 18. They are currently losing to Juventus, but neither goal is he at fault for.

--Julian Green has been good enough for Bayern that he will be Lewy's backup (and let's be real, Muller will play over him too if Lewy's out probably). But it would be huge for him to make most the 18s, get 15+ sub appearances and the occasional start. I think this game tomorrow against Inter will show us how serious of playing time he will actually get. A goal would be a huge boost to his confidence IMO.

--Zelalem will get a chance with Arsenal. I do not think he is ready to make their gameday roster, but if he plays well enough, a loan to low level EPL or the Championship isn't out of the question.

--Pulisic has been good in his limited time for Dortmund so far. He will be a regular in the 18 in the role he was the second half the season: A usual sub with the occasional start because of UCL or cup matches.

--Daniel Barbir has been playing well for West Brom. It looks like he will be in the first team this year. He is an 18 or 19 year old center back (as if we needed more of those).

More to follow later...

poor goal to concede from a corner
rodgers' teams never good away from home historically
