Germany played without Hummels, Boateng, Höwedes, Mertesacker, etc.

Off topic:

Honestly, it is great to get a win against major European powers, but I'm not getting excited about the USMNT until they show up at a major tourney when these countries are heavily invested.

They beat the Netherlands A squad and that German squad was 1B. It featured half their starters from the World Cup. The U.S. was without 4-5 usual starters, too. Beating Germany in Germany is huge matter who they put out there.

Quite a spectacular collection of misses from the spot for Portugal. Last one may have left the stadium. Brazil are through to the semis.

I'll be up for the U20 game. Gotta like their chances, but Serbia physically is similar to Ukraine. I like the lineup they put out:

Steffen, Payne, Miazga, Carter-Vickers, Requejo, Delgado, Hyndman, Arriola, Zelalem, Thompson, Rubin.

Beating an A squad is great.... But it's an international friendly in the middle of Euro qualifying.

Everybody has to qualify US victories with something. I don't get it. Until Klinsmann, wins on European soil even in friendlies were very few and far between.

I just generally ignore results for games that literally count for nothing. It'd be like Notre Dame losing a summer scrimmage against Purdue.

Now I have a bunch of friends who are going to be all confused when the US gets either knocked out of the group or loses in the round of 16 as usual in 2018.

9 of the players featured in the match were on Germany's World Cup roster. They were missing guys. We were missing guys. I will enjoy the progress the U.S. is making.

Weird soccer scoreline of the day:

In Asian World Cup Qualifying, Guam (population 150,000) beat India (population over billion) 2-1.

FYI Greece took all the momentum from reaching the knockouts of the World Cup and....

is last in their Euro qualifying group with losses to everyone including "Farao Islands."

Yeah I don't get that... That is possibly the easiest group in all of the Euro qualifying... Faroe Islands, Finland, Northern Island-- That has to be at least 4 wins and 2 draws right there. Romania and Hungary aren't exactly football powers either. Hopefully they can turn it around before World Cup qualifying.

Yeah it really makes no sense on paper. The thought is that the players are unhappy and are throwing games which wouldn't be surprising at all.

I'd love to watch the Sounders/Timbers US Open match... I seriously can't believe the powers that be in American soccer can't get anyone to carry more US Soccer... especially when you consider what IS carried by networks these days.

It's coming... With the Bundesliga TV deal on Fox next season and EPL on NBC, soccer is only going to continue to grow. As the MLS gets bigger every year, and as ESPN is seeing with some solid soccer Sunday TV ratings, coverage of MLS is going to benefit from other league's viewership plus the league itself getting better.

Oh, I agree, I'm just bitching because I want it now!!!...

Getting to watch more Dortmund next year will be fun... aside from Scotland, Germany is the only Euro league I'm really super into.

yeah while I am into the EPL and love watching Man City, I find the Bundesliga so much more exciting and quality. Plus, the Bundesliga has the most Yanks of any foreign league besides Liga MX and that will only continue to grow as the Visa requirements to play in Germany are much more relaxed than the EPL.
