Is this for real??? If so, AWESOME!!! If we won't do academies here, we'll have to rely on stuff like this...

Meh. Our academies here are just fine at development, the problem is many can not afford to do them because the best still have to pay. In Europe some have to pay for the academies, but the best(such as this kid) have all expenses paid. That is what we need with our academies. Because right now, they are pretty much for those who can afford it, with very few exceptions.

The LA Times is reporting Tottenham will transfer Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for 159 Million Dollars. That is 120 Million Euros. If true, that completely obliterates the previous world record transfer of Ronaldo from Man U to Real Madrid by about 30 Million Euros! Great move by Tottenham. While Bale is a great player, I don't think he is the best player in the EPL, let alone Europe. Real Madrid overpaid big time.

Curious to know who you think he is better in the EPL. Bale took an otherwise slightly average Tottenham team and took them to the brink of the Champions League. He Baled them out time and time again with often breathtaking, spectacular goals, many times out of absolutely nothing. There was a stretch, before he got injured, where he was not only the best player in England, but the best player in the world not named Messi or Ronaldo. He was just willing Tottenham to victories.

There is a reason he was named the top player (MVP) of the EPL. He was nails all season long.

As far as Real overpaying, you're right, but that is true all over the world. There is a saying in soccer that rings true: It is OK to overspend for elite talent, but it is financial suicide to overspend for mediocre talent. In other words, it's OK for Barca to spend 30 million a year for Messi, but not OK for a club like Malaga to spend 14 million a year on a player like David Villa, if that makes sense. With Messi, you are spending too much but you are also getting supreme play and championships and jersey royalties and brand recognition throughout the world and everything else. With a player like Villa, you are getting slightly above average play but killing the rest of your finances at the same time.

Last year in the EPL, as much as I hate to admit it, I have to say the best player was RVP. 56 goals in the past two years in the Premiership? That's asinine, haha. I could easily make the argument as well for Juan Mata, Eden Hazard(probably hasn't done enough yet) and my homer pick of Sergio Aguero.

Bale is a stud. There is no denying that obviously. I just don't think Real should give up 4 players or pay a record transfer fee for one player. I have seen a deal where it was Coentrao, Di Maria, and Modric plus some money for Bale. Is that really an addition for Madrid, giving up so much?

I do get what you are saying, though. Clubs everywhere are overpaying. Look at Monaco and PSG in a league that really top to bottom is not that great. Are people going to go out and buy Falcao Monaco jerseys in countries outside of France and Colombia? Highly doubtful.

Question for you LA because you follow La Liga much closer than I do. Is there any club outside of Real Madrid and Barcelona that has the financial means to compete for a league title? Valencia? Atletico?

Also with the probable Bale signing(especially if Real gives up Coentrao how it has been rumored), they are completely ignoring their backline issues. That would leave them with 4 viable options but literally zero proven depth.

I need to find a good soccer forum.... LOL

RVP is a beast, no doubt, but he fell off towards the end of the year, as he had a pretty long scoring drought near the end of the year. He also had MUCH better teammates and didn't have to create as many chances as Bale did. A great year, but not better than Bale IMO.

As far as La Liga, the answer is a big fat no. And that's what is majorly wrong with the league. Teams like Atletico Madrid come along once in a while and challenge them, and Valencia was really good for several years, but nothing sustained. Financial Fair-Play is supposed to help curb these types of things from happening, and while it's helping, it's still not close to where it needs to be. That's why the league is nowhere near as popular in the States as the EPL, despite the quality of play being better and much more sttractive (this not just from me but from MANY English analysts as well)...there is very little drama in La Liga, while the EPL is full of it. The EPL has marketed itself brilliantly...

Haha ain't that the truth. So much for the huge "war-chest" Arsene & Co. were going to spend. Hopefully they get it done with Suarez. Too bad they didn't just do it the past couple years with RVP, Cesc, Nasri, Song, etc.

Same. If it happens, fingers crossed, he'll stay out of trouble. Who knows though.
With Chamahk and Gervinho gone it certainly paves the way for Suarez to join Arsenal. However, and despite the fact that Suarez is an excellent player, I wonder if the supposed 50 million war chest could be better spent elsewhere. Higuain for roughly 25 million seemed to a good price but I am just not sure about 40-50 million. Furthermore, considering the frugal nature of Arsene Wenger, I have serious doubts. I do like the Ginter deal though.

These f'ing strikers are bigger prima donnas than NFL wide receivers. F Suarez... F Torres...., F Michael Owen...... I am sick of Liverpool's strikers. They have a few good seasons then go on strike.

Or they go the Andy Carroll route and skip having any good seasons at all...

USA up to 19 in the latest FIFA rankings. First time in the top 20 in Klinsmann's tenure, I believe. If the USA wins their next 3, they should move to around 11th.

Johannsson is going to be an amazing combination with altidore.

Brooks is the future. Showed flashes of not just greatness, but elite defending.

Geoff Cameron will provide valuable depth, but I like him better at CDM

The team looked better without jones

We beat Bosnia's mostly A team without many of our crucial players in Dempsey, Donovan, gonzo and Belser, Beasley, and even cherundolo.
Bosnia is a very strong team who was unbeaten In ten games. Huge win.

Oh, and altidore trolled the **** out of every single Bosnian on that free kick
