Just ran the calculator on the FIFA website that predicts World Ranking. With USA's 1-0 win, FIFA predicts that would give the US 960 points, which would put them in roughly 18th place. Mexico would stay around 20, possibly slide down to 21.

Side note, how is Columbia the World's 3rd ranked team by FIFA?!?!?

Colombia is #3 because of Falcao. I was there when they beat Paraguay. Did not make it to the match, but watching the 2nd half at a bar and drinking Aguardiente with the locals while they celebrated was a great time.

Colombia is not the actual number 3 team. The FIFA rankings are extremely biased towards UEFA and CONMEBOL teams, and very unfair to CAF, AFC, and CONCACAF teams. USA would get less points for beating brazil 4-0 than if Italy best the same squad 1-0. FWIW most the teams we beat will move up in the rankings so we will go up a little more. Probably 16th

Just the way FIFA rankings work, it is biased towards European and South American teams. If my message wasn't clear, sorry I was typing from the iPhone haha.

But yes. *Example* USA beats Brazil 4-0. They would get a certain number of points.
If Italy beat Brazil by a lesser margin, they would get more points than we got for beating Brazil by more goals. It is really a terrible ranking system, and only matters for the top 8 seeds in the World Cup. Honestly, I would rather not be in the top 8, and I would love to get put into a group with Portugal, Croatia, or Colombia.

Edit: also with the FIFA rankings, when the USA beats a CONCACAF team, it only counts for .88 of a team. Euro rankings get a 1...

Thanks Reps coming! I just find is amazing they bias it so bad. (Though I guess I shouldn't considering it is FIFA) It's just you'd think a team from a "Lower Region" beating a better team from UEFA or CONMEBOL would, in fact, get more points for the upset.

I think that would be an amazing group to be in.

Chepo to retain post

I really think there is a chance they won't qualify directly. They already played Jamaica twice, so they will not have an easy go the rest of the way. They will lose to us in Colombus. Draw or lose to Costa Rica in Costa Rica. Beat Panama and draw Honduras would put them at 12 or 13 points. If Honduras wins their two home games, can draw in Azteca, and can win or tie in Jamaica, that would put them anywhere from 14-16 points.

God, this would be sweet.

The LA Times is reporting Tottenham will transfer Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for 159 Million Dollars. That is 120 Million Euros. If true, that completely obliterates the previous world record transfer of Ronaldo from Man U to Real Madrid by about 30 Million Euros! Great move by Tottenham. While Bale is a great player, I don't think he is the best player in the EPL, let alone Europe. Real Madrid overpaid big time.

Will certainly give them money to splash in January, even the end of this window. I like it as an Arsenal fan not seeing Spurs best player, but with our inability to sign anyone not like we can claim anything this window....

Wow Dempsey to the Sounders. I don't follow soccer as much as I'd like but this is big/a surprise isn't it?

I am gonna wait and see. Just saw that as well. The transfer world of soccer is really weird. If he goes there, it is a good squad for him to be on. They easily have the most talent in the MLS if they get him.

That would be huge for the MLS too. I just feel he still has a few years of EPL left in him? Maybe not.

Can't believe I missed this. Really shocked that he is coming back from Europe. His days at Tottenham were numbered but would not have thought he would come back to MLS. Kind of a head scratcher honestly.

Honestly, his development as a player is over. If he isn't fully developed by now, he never will be. A move back to MLS isn't a good or a bad thing IMO at this point. Prior to the World Cup, it might even be a good thing because he is guaranteed plenty of playing time, way more than if he stayed with Tottenham.

Still kinda wished he went to Everton though. Definitely my second favorite EPL team because of Howard.
