The Guardian reports that Brighton wants £100M for midfielder Moises Caicedo.

He has scored two goals in the Premier League. As good as he is at what he does, the fact that a club could ask a free like this for someone that doesn't score goals is simply mind-boggling to me.

With that all said, that jag stick at Chelsea is going to pay this.

Caicedo is very good. He's a brilliant player. This fee is completely ridiculous. Brighton know this as much as they know that someone is going to be stupid enough to pay it.

I've said this before and I stand by it: these clubs should be stealing scouts and analysts from clubs like Brighton, RB Leipzig, Monaco, etc. Find the players before they are stars, sign them to contract extensions once they've proven to be stars.

Too close for comfort last night but they deserved to win. That Shaffelburg guy tore them apart when he came on.

Panama is going to be a much tougher test. Hopefully no one looks ahead to the final with what should likely be Mexico. After last night I doubt anyone is looking ahead. Nor should they be.

He came very close to getting three out of the five. Miller totally fooled him. He almost had Russell Rowe's shot. Brym went high and hit the bar.

He's not going to overtake Ramsdale at Arsenal. This is another guy I want starting somewhere. Ultimately I want him to be the man for the next World Cup.

With the exception of The Great Turner and maybe one of the "nines" this is a combo of a second and third USA string team.
When I watch them, I wonder how many will even travel with the big boys. So ... can't be "disappointed" by any of this. I therefore actually enjoyed the games (as I was watching to see if I could imagine any of these guys improving enough into the next four years to be a factor.) And there are some who gave glimpses of various elements of the game. I thought, for instance, that each of the midfielders (Busio, Mihalic --- however that's spelled, and Sands all held together pretty well) showed some talent for the Engine Room and its defensive responsibilities as well. When the smaller of the two nines (the guy who had two hat tricks) came towards them to present passing opportunities, the offense ran decently well. He might even be a possible forward wing player (certainly not a true nine. Reminds me more of Fox-in-the-box Chicharito) Could these guys be possible second team replacements? Maybe Cade Callow will get it together so that athleticism and strength turn into something. Zendajas (spelling again) certainly ran his butt off and I like that sort of guy. (Why Aaronson is close to my favorite A-Teamer ... second to Turner even.) ... so, for me this is just a off-Broadway version of a play, but it's OK.

I wasn't surprised once I saw Miazga and Morris sub in. Ugh.... I was hoping for so much more.

Again, the second or third team.
For two-thirds of the regular time, we were incredibly bad down our right defensive side. For the last third of regular time that shifted dramatically. It was "coincident" with the replacement of the starting right back (who was having a TERRIBLE game, and our starting rightcenterback not much better) with the Oldtimer Yedlin. Immediately there was NO further attack threat from Panama down that side. They tried to shift to the other side (and that damm blonde-hair-dyed sub of theirs WAS an irritation) but Jones had a good game all game and it looked like we'd take this thing. Yedlin also installed an attack mentality down his side which at least threatened Panama a bunch.
I think that once we couldn't get it done in regular time, our overworked midfield just was asked too much --- hell, Mihalovic was playing on one leg and Sands probably is now in an icebath. Perriera ran his ass off all game until both legs cramped also. I don't mind too much that he choked the extratime kick --- he did everything he could. And we can't count on Turner turning away half the shots --- he too had a lot of harder work this game. (and I have an intuition that he would like it a little calmer behind him during those kicks, as he's kind of a psychic zen type of stopper --- he said "sometimes I just know." --- probably having the crazy outlaws behind the net disturbed him more than the kickers.)

... so we lost. Panama was overall more physical, and veteran than us, and how can we expect to win without almost any of our first team? UnAmerican I guess, but not really disappointed.

This Saudi Super League also sucks. They're going to buy everyone they can until there is a PGA-LIV type of merger with UEFA. Or whatever they want their end game to be.

The inroads they have made this summer are nowhere near as rapid as people expected.

In a way I hope it’s just the beginning and that it gets worse,… have the European giants lose all their talent due to stupid money and get a dose of what they’ve been dishing out for the last 20 years. Burn it all down

Saudi money is closer to monopoly money than regular country money. And playing in the Saudi league would give you plenty of time to stay mentally sharp for your national team's games.

Might make sense for someone who is already at the peak of his development. But if you need tough coaching and competition to get to higher level going to Saudi Arabia for damn sure isn't the answer.
