Well done Germany. Well done. Send the trash back to the receptacle.

This should be a GREAT final... looking forward to it.

So Rangers are playing a Euro qualifier right now... a game they needed special permissions to play in as they weren't really qualifies but what ever...

and... their fans are throwing a bunch of projectiles at the opposing players and the chairman had to come out and call for them to behave... which they basically said 'fuckle' to... once scum, always scum.

And it sure was ... what a great game to watch. Chile will rue those missed chances. At least three absolute sitters blown. True, Germany could have scored more as well, but still, I'd say Chile were the better team overall. Sanchez and Vidal showed their quality throughout. They just didn't bring their goal-scoring boots.

Vidal (here comes heresy) is one of the best five players in the world --- maybe best three. I watch him every play. Those astounding Jock plays where he flies way up, gets knocked down, bounces on the ground and still gets to the ball and heads it to a teammate --- nobody else does stuff like that. I watched a Germany corner which Vidal was as usual down low in the meathouse. Ball was deflected out front and everyone slowly turned, EXCEPT Vidal. He was already back on his feet and head down in full sprint right at the German attacker at whose feet it was landing. EVERYONE ELSE WAS STANDING LOOKING. He closed enough to ruin the shot. DAMM that guy is good. If I was choosing a team, and knew I couldn't have Messi or Ronaldo, Vidal is my choice.

As a Bayern supporter, I'm hardly unbiased, but I agree that players like Vidal--a tenacious enforcer who can reliably boss the midfield from box to box for a full 90 minute-- are hard to find and frequently underrated.

Tough to compare him to guys like Messi and Ronaldo, though, since the roles they fill are so different. Transfermarkt indicates those two currently have 3-4 times Vidal's transfer value.

Keep in mind Germany didn't bring its best. Very experimental line up by the coach in prep for next year.

Vidal is lit. I'm also a Bayern fan though. If he had ever played in the Premier League he'd be way more appreciated. Frankly, I loved him at Juventus and Leverkusen as well, he fits Bayern better than Messi or Penaldo would anyway at this point.

The next Vidal is Leon Goretzka. He's going to end up at Bayern and it's going tu be delightful.

Alonso in his prime (late Pool and early Real) was a boss as well.

I've been a big Germany fan since '06.

My ideal lineup

Werner/Muller up top
Reus/Draxler/Brandt Ozil Muller/Draxler
Kroos. Goretzka
Hector Boateng Hummels Kimmich
GOAT

Germany will be the best team in Russia. They probably won't win but they are dirty goof.

Goes without saying.

The really amazing thing about Germany this summer is they also won the u21 Euros despite the fact that a number of the German u21s' best players, like Kimmich, Goretzka, and Werner, were in Russia with the senior side because the senior side left a number of its best players at home. The rest of the world should be scared about what Germany has in the pipeline.

But yeah, agree with those above singing Vidal's praises. He was incredible in the final. The thing that really impresses me is how complete a player he is. Maybe because of his thuggish build and appearance, I think people sometimes overemphasize what a great midfield enforcer he is at the cost of overlooking what a great midfield creator he is. He played some exquisite balls in behind the German back line during the final.

As to Whiskey's comments: obviously I agree about comparing strikers with midfielders, and everyone likes the Glory Boys. But strikers don't even get the ball without midfielders (clue pictures of Iniesta and Modric etc), and even big money people have their heads partially up their butts when it comes to pay levels. (I view this very much like a QB/RB without an OL.) So I don't give a damm about "transfer value" as a good comparative marker. This guy makes teams great. ... and yes, I already said I'd take Messi and Ronaldo first. --- in fact give me six Vidals and I'll beat the he!l out of Barca and Real despite the glory boys (I'd need Juventus' hammers and a goalie admittedly, but those six Vidals wouldn't let hardly anything even get through to them.)

Lukaku to United. Morata talks have stopped.

Can someone explain this to me? Mourinho didn't want him at Chelsea but wants him at United? Has Lukaku improved at all over the years?

Further, Arsenal probably signed Lacazette a year too late. Not to mention Lacazette was telling the world that he wouldn't leave Lyon unless it was to a club that had Champions League football. So he waits until Arsenal finally don't finish top four and signs with them? It's a good signing, but I have to question the guy's motives if he is saying one thing only a few months ago and then winds up doing the complete opposite come July.

Wake me when football is being played in August. These summer transfer windows get weirder and weirder every year. Too many players and clubs that simply miss the plot.

Wow. Well played, Mourinho.

Yeah I did not see that coming. I thought Mourinho didn't rate Lukaku?

All I know is Lukaku is the most physically gifted striker in the league (the world, maybe?) and his goal-scoring record speaks for itself. Great signing for MUFC. As a Liverpool fan, I don't love it.

Lukaku had issues at chelsea because he idolised Drogba and had severe confidence issues there trying to live up to his legend.

From what I've read, Lukaku wasn't Mou's first choice, based on price. They thought they could get Morata for cheap, but once Madrid kept upping the price, it made sense to pay for a striker who is more established at the same age (Lukaku), then pay the same for one who has all the tools but rarely starts.

Chelsea might yet come in for Lukaku, according to this:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jul/06/manchester-united-romelu-lukaku-everton-agree-fee

Interesting appraisal of Lukaku here:
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...aku-bargain-everton-manchester-united-chelsea

A few choice bits:

Of course, it is hard to dress up a fee of £75m as any sort of bargain, though in the present climate Lukaku is probably worth it. He scored 25 Premier League goals last season, he is only 24 years old and at his best he can terrorise defences through sheer physical presence and power. He is not exactly a new Didier Drogba but he is a close approximation, and for a coach like Mourinho who likes to play with a big, obvious target at the front he was always going to be of interest once Zlatan Ibrahimovic was ruled out.

...

Prolific goalscorers who are 6ft 2in and around 15st are simply not that easy to come by. Because of his imposing stature it is easy to characterise Lukaku as a blunt instrument, a big fella up front, a prominent target at which to aim hopeful long balls. He can operate in such a way, in fairness, he has good touch and positional awareness and can not only hold the ball up until support arrives but usually play a decent pass to set up an attack.

Yet Lukaku is more like a youthful Wayne Rooney than a reincarnation of Duncan Ferguson. He is at his best with the ball at his feet, running at defenders and more often than not making inroads through his pace and control.

Some good points in there. I never thought of the comparison myself but in terms of style he might well be like Wayne Rooney when he was young, but in the body of a big traditional number 9. Who wouldn't pay a premium for that kind of talent.

Yeah, I just saw that Chelsea matched United's offer. The story I read made it seem like it's now in Lukaku's hands and he can choose.

If that is the case... he has been hanging out with Paul Pogba for the past few days in LA...

This Costa Rica Hondurus match is pretty disgraceful... a few players shouldn't be on the pitch at this point.
