ESPN, NFL Network Won't Report News Before The NFL Wants It Reported

ESPN, hard-hitting journalistic entity, plays lap-dog to NFL's wishes on not leaking draft picks before they are announced.

The biggest travesty is the bullshit reasoning the ESPN bro tries to give.

And don't get me started on the network's recent love-fest with the woman-beater Mayweather.

For the sake of fairness:

1) I think the majority of people don't want them to leak the picks before it happens. That's bad programming.

2) While they certainly are promoting the fight (they have to, they are a news organization and it's the biggest fight in a decade), they also did a very critical Outside The Lines on Mayweather. They put out all of the information and clearly pointed out the discrepancy between how all other major sports handle domestic violence, compared to unsavory manner in which pro boxing handles it.

The problem isn't the TV coverage leaking picks, the problem is their reporters leaking them on Twitter. I would argue that if a fan is looking at Twitter while watching TV coverage, they set themselves up, because they know how the medium works. Especially since there will be non-ESPN reporters leaking the picks before they're announced either way.

I didn't catch the OTL, so I'm glad to hear they went at the issue head-on in some way/shape/form... but it irks me that Stephen A. Smith will soapbox about how we need to "grow up" and accept Mayweather's popularity despite his transgressions, when he's the first guy to cry foul for personal reasons in certain situations. Exhibit A, his comments on Chip Kelly.

I guess I just can't give ESPN any benefit of the doubt due to some of the people they employ.

I hold to the belief that Wizard is Skip Bayless.

Lion A. Smith ... On this day... I have admit something very sad ... I am shocked and disappointed that you would call Wizard ... who I consider a dear friend, something so insulting. Wizards has over 30 years of football coverage to his name ... no can question his knowledge of the game ... I really think you lack the clutch gene that's required to get it done as a mod.

Put yourself in ESPN's shoes.

NFL: You can't leak draft picks until we announce them.

ESPN: That's garbage! Our reporters will break news when they have it.

NFL: *Picks up phone. Calls Fox Sports 1.* You guys want exclusive draft coverage? No leaking picks until we say so.

FS1: Hellzyeah.

Somebody is going to be the NFL's lapdog when it comes to this kind of thing. At the end of the day, what's the difference? Thirty seconds?

We all knew they were going down the moral toilet when they hired that Wizard character...
I snuck in the back door... transferred from Disney Parks and I've been hiding in a broom closet outside the Mike and Mike studio for about a year. Don't tell them I'm here.

SVP is one of the few guys on ESPN I really like. Hate that he is leaving this void in my afternoon listening.

Anybody know what is going to fill that time slot?

Best radio show on sports radio by far. I think Russillo is doing it solo now correct? But what's SVP doing for a new gig?
Or is he scaling back because he has a young child?

SVP is doing a solo TV show nightly at midnight. It starts in September I believe.

I'm not much of a Russillo fan. Guess I have to try and find an alternative.
