Maybe BK is trying to set ND up with a potential HC in Quinn if he (BK) decides to bolt to the NFL in a year or two........

That point was brought up on II. Same pitch could have been used to get BVG...

touchy subject I see, I just truly believe BK will leave for the NFL one of these years, not sure when but I think all the success of Harbaugh, Petey and now Chip will make him want to give it a shot.

Would personally love Quinn to be the OC but I can't imagine him taking a step back, although I didn't think Franklin would take State Penn.........so what do I know.

STOP!!!!

We've all discussed this at length, but before he signed his extension I thought he could be gone sooner rather than later. After he signed it, all sources and information indicated strongly that he was committed to ND for the immediate future. I think the NFL is an itch he will eventually want to scratch, and we should cross that bridge when we come to it. I really, really doubt it has anything at all to do with coordinator hires and I think some people try very hard to link everything to Kelly => NFL.

I could see Quinn coming to ND if we're willing to pay substantially more than Buffalo. Simple fact is when Quinn originally went to Buffalo, Notre Dame was not positioned to pay him a top tier OC salary. Now our pay is much more competitive. I don't think Quinn ever intended to be at Buffalo long term, he just badly wanted to be a HC and get that experience. Now he's done it for 4 years and he's probably looking to move up. Notre Dame can potentially offer both more pay AND a better stepping stone to a middle-tier job like a UCONN, Pitt, etc. than Buffalo. So I don't really think this is a big longshot, and I realllllly doubt he would go through the process of interviewing if he wasn't legitimately interested and considering it.

Great post. I really hope it's Quinn, and if not, Denbrock at OC.

Yeah, IMO, reading between the lines I think Kelly sees if he can get Quinn back. If not, then he promotes Denbrock and looks for a QB coach. And I could see Borges being a serious candidate for QB coach. I think Denbrock getting promoted is more probable than getting Quinn back, but either could happen.

Just want to mention the fact that I suggested it could be Quinn when Chuch first took the Miami job and was swiftly shot down by everyone.

I expect apologies from all of you.

Honest question: Do you think Borges would settle for QB Coach at ND after being an OC since 1986? That is my only holdup with thinking that scenario could play out.

I only think so based on David cut cliff taking the qb position at ND with Weis

He became a coaching FA kind of late in the winter musical chairs. I suspect he won't have many options to be an OC and probably none at big name schools. Even if he were considered a big get for a leaser program, it may be relictant to bring him on board without some assurances he will be there longer than a year. OTOH, going to a visible program and taking a position coach job means he has the chance to redeem himself in the eyes of the profession and will be free to walk away when he sees that prime landing spot he really wants.

This article says Quinn's buyout would put about a million dollars in Buffalo's coffer.

Good question. Is he seriously in play for other OC jobs? Might take it out of necessity at this stage of the game. Have to think he'd take a QB coach job rather then completely sit out for a year.

I have almost no doubt that the ideal scenario is to get Quinn, I'm just not sure if ND will be willing to pony up all of the necessary money. I pray to God that happens.

I mean to be honest i wouldn't say he's doing well he's 17-32 there. This was his first winning season there, are losing quite a few players and honestly will probably take a step back.

i guess well for buffalo standards...good point though about maybe not having much talent coming back....i honestly don't know anything about them other than the stud OLB they had this year that's going to be a top 10 pick

Would he take a QB coach job and not attempt a vertical move the following season if it goes well? In the NFL some coaches flame out and end up back as coordinators. In college I feel that happens less often, save Greg Robinson.

Why would Quinn come to South Bend if it wasn't gonna be him? It's not like him and BK are gonna go to star bucks and talk about offense. If Quinn didn't have legit interest in this I don't think he would come to South Bend for this meeting

Anyone else out there think that we should start a recruiting coaching thread. With all the turnover teams, ND included, go through it might be a good idea to keep an eye on up-and-coming coaches.

Keep in mind that there is a very real possibility that this offense could be very good next two years. Whoever takes this job will have plenty of tools to work with. I do believe that he could make a bigger impact for his career as our OC on some successful teams than as HC at Buffalo. Does that mean he comes, no but it's not some crazy idea that has no merits.

there Isn't a standard at UB... They're relatively new to D1, 99 I believe. They've had at least two winning seasons defn not more than 4. biggest road block in staying at UB is the stigma of Turner Gill. Gill was a hot coach in 08 after taking UB to their first bowl. Interviewed with several legitimate teams including Auburn who chose Chizik instead. Gill was ultimately hired by Kansas and completely flopped.

I think in order to get a decent look by a good program, Quinn will have to work miracles and that's just very unlikely

Little late to the party but if BK hires Borges as the OC that would be the worst decision in his ND coaching career. I like Jeff Quinn and would be very happy with his hiring.

Now this isn't directed towards just you GK but do any of you guys actually think that Borges is a legitimate option at OC?
