LSU "insiders" starting to hear Freeman will be their DC next year. I think even Joe Burrows dad or brother chimed in and said Freeman will be at LSU next year. Their mods/staff on 247 are claiming he wants to talk it over with Fickell first. Loy even prepping ND fans for Elston now with Mickens possibly heading with Freeman to LSU.

Welp. SEC gets that SEC wants. Remember Aranda? He was at Wisky & LSU threw a ton of money at him and even more to stay after Miles was booted.

Haha, that tweet says 2.5-4M/year. Well, that's a huge difference and insane money. Incredible that they just spent 7M for their last DC, in 12 months, and are now prepared to do this. All while losing $80M.

What a bummer. But I guess I shouldn't have expected much in the first place.

1. ND isn't going to pay $2m for a coordinator.

2. LSU is a better job for a DC. Everyone in coaching (without any connection to either school) would take LSU over ND.

I don’t think losing out on Freeman to LSU is that surprising. Having the DC you interview raid your staff for his DB and CB coach...that does not look great on the competitive landscape.

I suppose some people want to live in a place where everything smells like taint sweat and even the rich people have cockroaches, but certainly not all. Even just from a coaching standpoint, LSU is about to get sanctioned back to the stone age for their little "covered up significant crimes at an institutional level for years" problem.

Will the NCAA really give big sanctions to one of the only teams that challenges Alabama with any sort of regularity?

So Freeman visits South Bend and basically all that happens is he's looking to poach our position coaches? Sounds like a productive meeting by Notre Dame!

Coming from the Muslim capital of America, dont think you have a lot of room to speak of regarding cockroaches.

Seriously? It's not bad enough we're not going to get our obvious #1 choice, we also might lose our CB coach to the very same guy? Man, we're such bottoms. I hate this admin. I really do.

I disagree on this. LSU just fired Bo Pelini after one year. LSU is in deep sexual misconduct doo doo. ND just sent it's last DC to a P5 head coaching job. LSU managed that with Dave Aranda, but he was lined up for a head coaching gig already.

In terms of the better job, personally, I'd rather try to do it at ND.

If he picks LSU, I think it's just a pure $$ thing.

You can near guarantee you’ll be given a NFL pass rush DE, strong LB and 5 Star DBs. That is enticing for someone who hasn’t coached with those type of tools.

Similar for Freeman, no? He'll get the call soon as well. If this is a money grab them this one is on the admin. Overpay the guy for two years, because that's as long as he'll be here and that's how you keep up with the Joneses these days. I wish the admin would shit or get off the pot. Either commit to football or just start an academic-first football league with the other FBS also-rans.

It will be hard for ND to put positive spin on this cuckolding. #1 choice interviews then swipes two solid coaches and you end up with an underwhelming internal promotion. Yikes.

Everyone will blame Kelly, but this is 100% on the admin.

Would you rather be the head chef at a vegan joint (limited menu) or a high end steakhouse? Even if money is the same (we know it isn't), he has more at his disposal than he would at ND.

Not at all. Never seen them play.

My comments weren't directed at his scheme specifically just that not all 3-4's are created equal.

Thanks. Wasn't assuming you were directing anything at TS. I agree with your earlier take about the bolded above, and wanted your take. It's hard to find many with a good feel on BS's D lol.

Here's the quote I read from Stockton that makes me think he's not right at this time. From 2019:

“Coach Diaco, Coach (Dave) Elson, and then Coach (Tony) Grantham are the people I’ve had the pleasure to work with that are great 3-4 minds,” said Stockton. “I’ve only been in one 4-3 scheme, and that was for a couple months. I’ve been 3-4 my whole life. From the point Coach Diaco took over at Notre Dame, I really don’t know anything else.”

I'm not calling for him to be DC, or DC alone. I'd like him to get an interview. And I wouldn't mind him getting a position on the team. I also wouldn't mind a co-DC (at most) with Elston. I think he's a great young mind (his results were pretty impressive) and someone we should at least help out (with the press that comes along with an interview).

I also don't worry much about the quote. I just think the young man is being honest. Obviously he's got a great feel for Ds, and think it would benefit him and his career immensely working in a non-3-4 system for a time.

I had just posted about this before Loy put this out.

Just yesterday Rivals was saying that ND was the preferred choice for many reasons. But that money is stupid money and that was the concern here. The low side is estimated at 2.4M and it could be as much as 4M. This is all about the SEC buying what they want. It's dumb and it needs to change.

Even with the current scandal, LSU is easier to recruit too on D, and will spend the $.....

I've been saying for a long while, ND needs to star paying a competitive rate for coordinators and assistants, as well as bringing on more analysts. There is simply no reason for ND to be so F'ing cheap. We have enough limitations to overcome, and money should not be one of them.

Eventually these clowns will all go bankrupt. We can spend them into the ground; wish we'd start trying.

Whi said they are cheap? There is a pretty large gap between cheap and 3m a year for a DC.
