Texans fans don’t seem to like him, judging by Twitter.

Texans fans aren't going to like anyone associated with the current team.

If we have a good old boy coming back home who cut his teeth elsewhere, I'm open minded.

If Elston leaves I’m afraid it could cause some defections on the DL. It seems like those guys are super close and love playing for him.

I wonder if he would come back as just a d line coach? Rumour has it that if Elston doesn't get the DC gig, he would leave.

NFL DC to college D-line coach is a pretty huge step backwards for a guy as young as he is.

Where did you see this? From what I know of Elston, he has no desire to be a head coach. He is along the lines of Venables where he is happy with his current situation and loves the area. Does not want to pull his kids out of school with a move.

Prister commented on today’s pod that “Elston will be a DC next year...just a matter of which team”

He thinks Purdue will make a run at him and acknowledged that ND could name him DC as well.

There's only so many DC positions available and coaches move all around and to different positions all the time so it wouldn't surprise me.

I've heard this a lot in podcasts and random beat writer/fan posts, too. The issue is that he was "passed up" multiple times for the DC position (BVG, Elko, Lea) despite working continuously with BK since 2004 (!!!) at Central Michigan.

Coupled with Elston playing at Michigan and people seem to think it's only a "matter of time" before he leaves and/or returns "home" to Ann Arbor.

I don't know the man's motivation. He seems to be genuinely happy and his family likes their involvement with the players - I mean, his wife bakes sack cookies and the DL group went to one of his kid's swim meets. I guess most of us would have the desire to advance or move up but I am not one to project my own thoughts/motivations on others or try to forecast his.

I hope he stays, I think the depth, brotherhood, and level of play along the DL is stronger than any unit we have, including the OL. But at least that's me reading the tea leaves as to what other people are assuming.

What about Muschamp? you think he could handle working for Kelly? I would like some fire on the sidelines.

Sampson said Lea did not offer LB GA Nick Lezynski so hopefully ND can make a paid spot for him.

If Lea didn't offer him a spot, and he knows him better than most, why would ND want to elevate him to that spot?

There is a possibility that ND told Lea that they planned on elevating him and Lea did the classy thing and said I won't pursue him.

Fairly certain it's this.

I love his fire. I want to see him body slamming refs during a game.

If that's the case, you'd have to think the Freeman talk is all for show. If you're the new DC, you want to bring in your guys. I know Elston has always been the heavy favorite to get the gig, but I was hoping we'd be able to pull Freeman somehow.

Was Lezynski here when Elko was still around?

I don't believe this to be true? Maybe I missed that.
