This always my biggest complaint about tropical places for vacation. It's like if the average temperature is above 70 everyone just decides "college frat party" is the appropriate beer level. Nuts to that, I want the good stuff.

Maybe up in that Swamp in Orlando or down in hillbilly heaven in Homestead near the motor speedway but they’ve got the good stuff in Miami. Should’ve made the Orange Bowl 🤦*♂️

I don't know about that. I was down for the NC in 2012. Nothing but sugary sweet junk and light beer as far as I could see. Maybe there's some beer bar where they import the good stuff from Michigan and Colorado that I didn't see.

Dec 28 | Camping World Bowl | Iowa State

Went to a bowl game about a decade ago that Iowa State played in, and every ISU fan over 25 had the exact same outfit:

-Jorts
-Cell phone clipped to belt
-Bowl shirts instead of regular team shirts

The game was NYE evening, it was legitimately cold for AZ standards, and those guys ran up and down Mill Ave all night after the game in those jorts and it was probably 40 degrees or colder. They played Minnesota, and even those people were dressed appropriately.

*Fun crowd though. They really love their team, and are passionate about them. Have that little brother in the state chip on shoulder that Purdue, MSU, Auburn, etc have

It’s a good thing... now when making good faith friendships at the tailgates ND fans don’t have to give away good beer. Just have a few Busch in the cooler and peace is made cheaply.

These are the best visiting fans in the world. Brief interactions with these types of fans can be the time of your life if you live a little for a day.

If you're traveling to the game and see a similar group, talk to them. You'll probably remember it forever. Life is short, be weird.

Realizing this come natural for you, any suggestions on how to start?

Just win the damn game. This may be a meaningless bowl game but you can bet the entire CFB nation will be rooting against ND and for the “Cinderella story, upstart Iowa State Cyclones” who were only 4 points from being in the CFP (hyperbole intended b/c that’s what the media does)

Absolutely. Bowl games are less heated too, because everyone is basically on vacation, boozing, and enjoying the weather.

Through my bowl game experience, SEC fans have proven to be the most fun/hospitable (Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia), so I was very excited to tailgate with Bama fans in 2012, but we ended up going to a strip club called Tootsies that was the size of a Costco, and got to the stadium about a half hour before kickoff lol.

I've tailgated with a ton of SEC fans from just about every school. They're all pretty fun unless it's a rivalry game and it's a big game record/ranking wise. ACC are pretty fun too. Tailgated for years wit TN fans. Great bunch.

Only crew I disliked are Gator fans. They were something else, but nowhere near as bad as what you get at Big10 schools.

Purdue tailgate is a big sausage fest for the most part. Fans are typically pretty nice though despite the lack of good looking women. Bring your own date.

There ya go! If you're goin' blue collar, Granpa drinking... there's only one choice.

My usual stop at the corner tavern nets me a 32 oz San Diego guest tap selection and a Hamm's tall boy... or two if the conversation is good.

When I visited my buddies at PU, we'd always make sure to bring some chicks from Bloomington and/or Indy. Most of the time, my PU buds would visit us...

I had pretty good experiences with UF fans. Now FSU and UM were a different story (only a few bad times).

Nah. Purdue, and BC, are the worst. Got that chip on their shoulder about Notre Dame. Purdue is the closest we ever came to getting in a scrap at a road game when I was a student. Compared to them Michigan was all class.

I definitely don't discredit your experience, and although this is arrogance, I can't take Purdue football or its fans seriously. In some ways, this perspective has liberated my viewpoint to even hope for them to win (when they are not playing us, of course). It's like a clearly disadvantaged little cousin that always tries to get in the mix with a scrap for attention. It's annoying, but you just end up laughing.

BC beating us after Florida St. means I can't talk shit again until we win another title.

That may be. As an undergrad being harassed by dumb drunk Purdue kids I lacked the perspective I might have today.
Punkass wannabes from Boston College, though, I’m not forgiving.

I don't know about off campus, but in the past Michigan fans in South Bend have been rowdy and classless. You don't see them picking as many fights as they used to 10-15 years ago, but maybe eating some humble pie finally cooled their jets a bit. Back in the day they'd walk around campus like they owned the place, even in seasons where they sucked. Those were the only games I saw brawls break out.
