does cubs ownership realize that wrigley and the "wrigley experience" is as much as a draw as the team itself?

baseball is a city game. ballparks need to be in the cities not the burbs.

I would think the City would do what ever they could to keep them and the ball park there.

Pretty sure it's just a scare tactic to get the changes they want to Wrigley

All major attractions should be in cities, not the 'burbs.

Does anyone have any knowledge of how the rooftops work? How can they almost demand to not have signs/scoreboards constructed in Wrigley to protect their rooftops? Do the rooftops and Wrigley just have an understanding, and Wrigley receives a portion of the rooftop revenue?

Wrigley has partnerships with most of them, I believe.

No they won't move. I'm a lifelong Cubs fan and would root for them no matter where they played. They could move to Gary and I'd still root for them and go to games (when I'm back in IN). That said, there aren't a lot of people who share my opinion. There are a lot of Cubs "fans" who own a hat and show up to Wrigley to get wasted and could care less if the Cubs win or lose. It's unfortunate, but that's the case and it brings in money. I like the proposals the Ricketts family have come up with to update Wrigley. I love Wrigley, but nothing good has ever happened to the Cubs there. Nothing. If they want to blow that f'ing place up and build a new stadium I'd still be a Cubs fan.

The only reason anyone cares about the Cubs is Wrigley field. I've been 3 times and it's all been games that didn't matter and the teams were terrible (pirates, and Astros twice)...But it was the most fun I've ever had at a baseball game.

He's bluffing. And it's a easy bluff to call. Only Chicago could love the Cubs. They'd just be another crappy team anywhere else.

My first thought would be no, but look at the skankees new ballpark.
Anything is possible these days.

Not much shocks me anymore.

Don't see the Cubs moving away from Wrigley, would change the whole identity of that team/franchise. But, the Dodgers did leave Brooklyn, the Giants did leave New York, etc.

The Red Sox will never leave Fenway because that would signal the end of the world.

Everyone has a price. If Ricketts can make more money in the burbs, they are gone.

They are just trying to strong arm the city and the rooftop owners to finally give them the **** they need to win. Chicago, your F$#(*&! OUT!

That is the thing, he can't. Wrigley will sell out regardless of how bad the team is...more of a party, less of a ball game atmosphere. Put this horrible franchise in US Cellular and the seats would be empty.

He will get 3-5 years of sell outs, just based on a new stadium experience/new town with baseball. This is all about economics.......... the owners are not going to take it in the shorts, just to keep the Cubs in Wrigley/Chicago. Old stadiums are not economically viable, in today's game. Other teams with new stadiums will continue to grow, financially, at a much faster rate than teams with old stadiums that have not renovated to keep up with modern amenities.

So, how does the idea of modernizing Wrigley compare to modernizing Notre Dame Stadium?
