Where would Torres play? Yankees have a proven shortstop now.

Would be great if he could grow into a 3b. Then we would have our infield set for the next decade.

3b: Torres
SS: Dede
2b: Castro
1b: Bird

There are some conflicting reports out there. Some are saying the Cubs would get ONLY Chapman for Torres and more; another source is saying Beltran, Eovaldi, and Pineda are in the mix as well.

Interesting. I hadn't heard the second part. This is where I just sit back and trust Theo. If it's too much, he just won't do it.

Agreed. He's the best in the business so we just need to trust his decisions. The starting pitching and offense is obviously good enough to give the bullpen a lead to work with in the later innings and having Strop-Rondon-Chapman in innings in 7, 8, and 9 would be awesome.

I read he can play 2b, 3b, and his natural SS position.

I think this is why the Cubs are so willing to trade Torres. They have a very young infield and they already have Zobrist's replacement in Ian Happ. I don't think they would trade Torres if they didn't think Russell was their long term SS

Man, this is going to be SO entertaining, even from a neutral standpoint...

but, this may end up being really something when the Cubs inevitably fall in October... not that I'm wishing for it, I'm just kind of expecting it... all of the Cubs fans around me are just about to the point where the name is already on the trophy... I try to talk to them like, "Playoff baseball is a crap shoot, you never know" When I'm really thinking,... "You can't possibly think the Cubs, of all teams, are shoe ins... I mean... you should know better."

Cliff diving may become Cubs fans fav pastime by the end of all this.

Seems unnecessary to me considering Strop and Rondon are already having great seasons.

There biggest problem is RF. Heyward. LOL.

Can never have too many high end relievers in the post season... unless he is a cancer in the club house, this can only be a positive...

I refuse to get ecstatic about anything related to the Cubs. This season has been extremely difficult for me to not get my hopes up. Like mentioned above, October is different...

There are two undeniable facts:

1) The Cubs put themselves in a better position to win the World Series this year.

2) The Cubs got fleeced.

#1 makes #2 worth it, though. The Yankees got fleeced in numerous trades over the past 20 years but it brought them 5 championships. This is what you need to do if you win.

But man does it feel good to be a seller for once.

Love the trade. Gleyber is elite but blocked by Russell and Baez, McKinney is not having a great season and has injury concerns, Warren will probably top out as a 4th or 5th starter, and the Crawford was just a throw in.

Cubs bullpen got immediately upgraded, no longer worry about having to face Harper or Murphy late in games.

ELOY JIMENEZ UPDATE:

Eloy probably had his best game last night as a South Bend Cubs going 4-5 with a single, 2 doubles, and a 450 foot grand slam. It is almost August and he is still hitting .338 with 12 home runs, 68 RBI, and 32 doubles. He leads the Midwest league in RBI and is tied for 4th in home runs.

In the second half of the season, the SB Cubs are in first place (22-12) and have the best overall record in the Midwest League (63-40).

Who is the longest suffering Cub's Fan on I.E? My first game Summer of 1940. Suffering 75 years, 11 months and counting, especially this month. Are they going to do it again?
(Bears Fall of 1940)
Norte Dame, Fall of 1940.
I haven't suffered nearly as much with the Bears or Notre Dame as I have with the Cubs.

Not sure Madison's ever been a zero. What's the reference here?

Chapman's 8th inning appearance and his subsequent meltdown. Why put him in then? If he goes into a funk because of a game like that, not good.

That said, no manager I'd rather have in baseball.

Why put him in? They just traded for him to be one of the best closers in baseball. The game needed closing.

Are they just supposed to shelter him until the playoffs?

I tend to agree. I don't think I would have made the move, but it's certainly not unconventional.

Last night, however, was utterly unconventional. And, man, it worked. Incredible game. Turning point of a season type game.

Fowler has been clutch. Great to have him back. I can't imagine us had Schwarber been uninjured.
