I think Rodon is the top player in the draft and I would love for him to be a Cub but I've read the White Sox think he's the #1 talent as well so he's not falling past them.

Good thing we have Manny to show our AAA players on how to flip the bat after hitting a 450ft homer. Maybe we can bring back Soriano and Ramirez to show the guys how to hustle. SMH

So Schwarber it is. Probably the top college power bat at a position of need and he will be cheaper so we can load up on pitchers in the later rounds. I like it, I like it a lot.

I read that he had more walks than strikeouts in all 3 years at IU. That's some bad ass plate discipline

I hope you guys don't read the comments when the Cubs post something on their Facebook page. They're mostly awful and very, very dumb. We might have the most annoying fan base.

Maybe some of the people that post in response to ND on Facebook are cohorts.

Moves like this are the reason I like this FO so much. For too many years the organization operated based on PR and reacting to whichever way the wind blew with regards to public opinion.

I like this move because it is evident they don't care what the media or the public think. Some decisions just aren't for anyone else to understand but the organization themselves.

Probably almost 99.9% chance that Schwarber moves to the outfield now with the 3rd round pick. Really like the 6th pick, before his injury he was projected as high as a top 10 pick at one point and topped out at 97. High risk, high reward pick

You guys will love Kyle. He is a fantastic athlete(started at MLB on an undefeated football team in D-1 in OH - lost to Braxton Miller in Playofffs) and his discipline at the plate is awesome. Great kid too. I watched him grow up(his dad and I played soccer together) and he has an incredible support team around him that will keep him grounded. Super excited for him.

According to his dad, the plan is to move him to LF.

The Cubs took an absolute shit load of pitchers yesterday. I hope 2 or 3 of them pan out and make the rotation or become reliable pitchers in the bull pen

If you have WGN you gotta tune in, Len Murrello sang the stretch and now he's been in the booth for a whole inning. You can tell they are trying to get him out but he won't leave and it is absolutely hilarious.

He was spectacular. Find the interview...watch it. Talking about Andy Pafko and his reaction to the Junior Lake HR was priceless.

Tough game today, only 1 inning away from a perfect home stand and Strop imploded. Idk about Strop anymore, when we first got him he was very consistent and threw strikes but he has been very Marmol-esque this year.

Getting more prospects. As much as I love the shark, they need to unload him sooner than later. He had a really great start to the season but I don't think he'll finish that way. He's had a few rocky starts lately. Gotta get rid of him before other teams notice he's slipping.

Yeah, Johnny, this isn't new information. Not about money at all. All about adding more prospect pitching depth.

Theo is asking for the moon and Shark has been very good. His value is increasing. We'll likely get 2 high level pitching prospects and another midling prospect for him.

I'd love to lock him up for 5-6 years. I think he'll be a solid 3 starter in that time. But he might be able to draw a couple of guys who are 2 years away who have the same ceiling.

As I've said previously, I'm really liking the way this rebuild is starting to take shape.

This. Shark is doing very well but what use is an Ace who will turn 30 soon to a rebuilding club? Nah, thank him for all of his hard work and then reward him by sending him to a team with better prospects than the Cubs (for fair compensation)

So do you think the Cubs are interested in a long term deal or do you think they are just publicizing this to try to drive up Jeff's trade value?

The Cubs are talking to Jeff Samardzija about a long term deal

Most people figured it was a foregone conclusion that the Cubs would trade Jeff Samardzija to a contender this summer, but the Sun Times reports that they haven’t quite yet closed the door on keeping their ace around:

But even as the Cubs continue early trade talks with some teams about Jason Hammel and Jeff Samardzija, they also have quietly reached out to Samardzija with a new offer on a contract that would keep him in Chicago as long as Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo, according to multiple sources.

There have been talks in the past but they’ve never gone anywhere. It just seems like the Cubs and Samardzija are a bad match given his age and the team’s place on the success cycle (i.e. not there and likely won’t be for a couple more years). Maybe that calculus has changed for both sides, with the Cubs thinking they’ll be friskier faster than they used to think and Samardzija looking around, realizing that he’s one pitch away from Tommy John surgery, so why not cash in now while the cashing is good.

Or maybe it’s just a way to make other teams think the Cubs value Samardzija more than they do, thus upping the haul they can get for him in a trade.

Samardzija's agent has said he won't give Chicago a hometown discount so it may not matter if they're trying in earnest.

OTOH, there were "leaked" negotiations with Garza last year which were never serious discussions.

I think it's in Chicago's interest to lock him up unless they get an absolutely insane haul for him. Given that David Price is on the market as well, that possibility seems reduced. Garza fetched so much in trade because there were no reasonable alternatives. Not the case this year.

Bunch of call-ups. Bryant to AAA and hit a HR in his first game. Schwarber to Kane County and had an RBI single. Hankins (11th round last season) moves up to AA. Vizcaino and Armando Rivero move up from AA to AAA after dominating this season at AA.

Just my opinion but I think the Cubs should trade Shark and bring in a haul. If you're gonna rebuild then I think you go all in and the haul Shark could bring in would be pretty sweet.

GTFO SHARK! Push hard to get traded, watch your value skyrocket as compete like a MFer in the playoffs for a contender. Cubs suck, always have, always will.

Sincerely,

A loyal Cardinals fan
