I've never spoke to a health insurance rep, I work in internal operations, never sales. I'm talking to clinicians, not business people.

I'm the director of Pharmacy ops for a Fortune 10 company.

It is not epidemiology. And to be clear, he doesn't work with me, he's just a friend. He's an orthopedic surgeon.

That's very untrue, and that has more to do with CNN being a joke.

Yes - social distancing is good because this does spread fast. It's just not as fatal as CNN and other reports will tell you (If you like articles over candid conversations, I did link one that estimates the true mortality rate is ~.125% in the previous page).

I am mid level. I'm not rich and I'd argue underpaid. I'm a nobody to the big wigs at a company like this. But due to my position and this issue catching storm, I get to be part of conversations of small groups that are very candid that I usually wouldn't be privy to.

That's it - have at it. I'm out. Not the first time I've stood up and been laughed at for it on this board, lol.

How can you seriously post that and then rant and rave about everyone else talking in absolutes? Because it's an article that fits your world view? The trolling continues.

There have been at least a couple of people who have tried to defend his arguments already and others who believe this a bunch of bologna already looking for any bit of info they can find to agree with their view.

Koon is presenting himself as someone in the know and that could be problematic.

Yes, but they probably fall into the "Those that believe this is blown out of proportion aren't going to change their minds" category. I assume those "couple of people" haven't influenced you, correct?

But he is in the know.

We are supposed to trust his boardroom health experts and health insurance reps.

We are NOT supposed to trust the CDC and the WHO, nor the doctors and nurses on the ground in overwhelmed hospitals trying to tell people how bad this is going to get.

I personally believe the information "official" agencies or bodies approve to release to the public is concise and calculated. That information is never the entire truth. Or the full scope of the situation.

There's never going to be a situation were they reveal all. Except, maybe when the aliens decide to finally visit us.

Ive downplayed articles the whole time. I just said if that's your thing, there are articles on both sides so I referenced one....

My opinion isn't based on that article or any other... simply showing even in articles there is no "clear answer"....

So there is an unnamed orthopedic surgeon vs the world's best epidemiologists.

There is your word vs a CNN article that likely has links to verify sources. (Hate CNN all you want, but if they can back up what is in their article it still holds more validity than literal hearsay.)

I am curious about your article that you posted and I will look into it, but seriously, just give pause and think about how you sound. You present yourself as somebody who is in a position to potentially give advice and to some you may be just another example of why they should not practice social distancing even though you agree they should. First rule of humanity, not everyone is an idiot, but you have to assume that they are.

This is not the primary source of my opinion... It's supplementary to what I hear through my day job at this time. To me, my job > my friend's opinion.

I'm a big boy, I'm not going to panic because people don't buy my opinion or downplay the meetings I'm currently in.

I'm just offering it up, take it or leave it. But shutting it down and calling it "the spreading of lies" and "complete bullshit" just because it's different than the agenda-articles and filtered government statements is ridiculous.

I am stating this for Koon's sake.

I would not want to feel like I had any part in further encouraging people to ignore or dismiss advice and rules laid out by the CDC/WHO/etc. Whether my impact on them was big or small, morally I would personally not be okay with it.

Some, like Lax, will feel it is their moral imperative to dispel this type of talk altogether.

Some simply will not care.

I honestly don't know what to think anymore. I started out thinking this is nothing. Then I switched to, this is going to be a lot worse then they are telling us. That's currently where I am at.

On a side note:

Has anyone considered all of the, non-COVID19 related, deaths that will be caused due to mandated shelter in place, and mass hysteria that is days away?

Someone could beat home and have a serious fall and not go into the doctor because they are scared to go to the hospital, or the hospital tells them to stay away. And then they die from something related to the fall.

Does anyone factor that into this mess?

I've definitely come across a lot of people who are checking in on elderly neighbors, family, etc. I think it's important for everyone to have some meds at home and do their best to avoid inherently risky activities. I was trying to teach my little guy how to ride his bike yesterday. Probably not the best idea. I'm not going to surround myself in bubble wrap but I sure as hell want to avoid an unnecessary trip to the ER.

Hear hear. I'm taking precautions and this thing is real, but I don't think this is the end of days either.

I'm keeping receipts of everything in this thread. People (including myself if I say anything stupid) are going to be held accountable when this is all over.

didnt catch the numbers but was mentioned children and young adults are beating this at significantly higher rates than the elderly or those with underlying health issues. She said even if they are highly infected with the disease.

highly contagious to everyone even though they are seeing various levels of symptoms/recovery among age groups.

Do not currently believe people are "immune"

The early theories on this were a massive differential in smoking between men and women in China. Has this differential held up in other places?

they did not state this was us only or worldwide or if it was related to any specific factors

California issues 'stay home' order;U.S. death toll hits 200
Dan Whitcomb, David Shepardson

LOS ANGELES/WASHINGTON, (Reuters) - California issued an unprecedented statewide “stay at home” order on Thursday for its 40 million residents and Washington warned Americans to return home or stay abroad indefinitely, as the number of coronavirus deaths in the country hit 200.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s directive, effective immediately, marks the largest and most sweeping government clampdown yet in the worsening public health crisis brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak, which he predicted could infect more than half the state within eight weeks.

As authorities ramped up measures to keep the virus from spreading, Washington could announce restrictions on travel across the U.S.-Mexico border as soon as Friday, limiting crossings to essential travel, two officials briefed on the matter said. That would follow a similar measure on Wednesday closing the border with Canada

Arizona is likely to follow suit with a similar lockdown this weekend.
