I work in Midtown Manhattan and commute in from Jersey via Bus and Subway. Feel like a sitting duck. Over the last few days I know that Morgan Stanley, EY, BlackRock, and Brookfield all have had cases in Manhattan. I work at a national CRE brokerage but our management doesn't seem to have any plans currently to have us work from home. Feels irresponsible.

I'm in manhattan for school. I think all the schools are either going online or are about to. The building itself will be open so I'm gonna keep going since I don't take the subway anyway.

I am lucky enough though where I feel like I am in a position as a teacher to make the demand to not lose my sick days though.

I'm curious to find out how the UT system handles this part... another thing I am expecting to have touched on tomorrow...

Those HC workers in the Seattle area who have had exposure and have to quarantine at home have been guaranteed their salaries and will not have to use their PTO.

In Seattle, a "COVID-19 Response Fund" by Microsoft, Amazon, and other Seattle-area companies has been established to rapidly send grants to organizations with “deep roots” within vulnerable populations, including people who lack access to health insurance or sick leave, residents with limited English proficiency, communities of color, and health care and gig economy workers.

I work as a teacher in rural East Central Indiana. We are having to start planning for "what if?" scenarios.

Local nursing homes are no longer accepting visitations from clubs and other organizations.

My fiance works in the ICU at a hospital between Indianapolis and here. Should she begin to get patients with COVID-19, I will not go to work. I see that as a responsibility. I am lucky enough though where I feel like I am in a position as a teacher to make the demand to not lose my sick days though.

Others throughout the country may have to use all their sick days. Others may not have sick days to use. What then?

I did speak with my fiance this morning though about any kind of preparation they have in place should they get a patient with COVID-19. They would be quarantined to a special room with its own filtration. In a city with over 50,000 people and only one other hospital, they only have two of these rooms. I cannot imagine other hospitals in the area being much different. Her floor is also severely understaffed at the moment. She is already working 60+ hour weeks.

Oahu may be crude in his post, but he is likely right in that hospitals will not be properly equipped to handle this. The CDC specifically describes this potential:

Teacher here as well...I think it'll only be a matter of time till schools start shutting down for weeks. We are already seeing it at the university level and with e-learning, I think you'll start to see it at the K-12 levels as well.

Stanley Clark School in South Bend has been closed for two days. A staff member had been in contact with someone who was showing symptoms. The person who was showing symptoms had been in contact with someone who was diagnosed with COVID-19.

I assume people dispersing for spring break and coming back will be an issue. Is your spring break the week of the 23rd?

Think of college students even more so than high school students.

You're going to have congregations of thousands of students from various parts of the country going to various parts of the country or out of the states and partying together before returning to college towns all across America.

Couple that with the massive bar crawls going on this time of year for St. Patrick's Day.

Yes, we canceled plans to visit my in laws in Florida over break. My motives were impure but my wife is the one who brought it up...

I am supposed to be in a wedding in a couple weeks. I'm do not want to have to miss it but I'm going to at least bring it up to the groom that it might be a game time decision.

Rural communities, who may be affected with small hospitals with limited equipment, staffing, testing, abilities to care for critical patients for any length of time, may be unable to find medical centers with bed availability. Should any of their limited staff have exposure or show symptoms and need to self-quarantine...

Ok, this is out of hand. I live in rural PA and have access to two Walmarts. 2. As of 4pm today both have sold out of every fuckin roll of toilet paper. There’s not one square to be had unless you lift one from the men’s room. Canned goods are a plenty. Bottled water as far as the eye can see. But can a guy get a 6 pack of double ply shit tickets? That answer is a hard no for now. Apparently I can’t shit until it gets humid out and it’s only 36 degrees right now and I had a big dinner.

You could always shower afterwards. Just wash your face too. The Virus makes ya sneeze... I've heard.

I've used hand towels on 'worst case scenario' type situations. Wouldn't really recommend it. I'm also working on my 2nd divorce... Go Figure , right......

I guess we need to print more Constitution's.

1. My retirement village just instituted a "no non-essential visitors" rule. Given the average age here (I'm "young" at 80) I'm in favor of that idea.
2. The Sisters of St. Joseph retirement home (for about 80 sisters) just instituted the same policy. They average older than we do.
3. I usually host a May meeting of the best UFO researchers from all over the US. Some come from Texas, Connecticut, Virginia, Florida, even Seattle Washington. I'm hating to do it, but I'm telling them "not this time" and we'll wait till Fall and see. My friends in this research are also typically not young.

Some of the comments in this thread are ... in my opinion ... irresponsible (though lately sanity seems to have been restored blessedly). I wouldn't mind I and my neighbors and my best friends having a few more healthy years even if we are old already. Maybe it's because we ARE old and have lived full lives that we are willing to sacrifice some "inconveniences" for longer term hopes (selfishly) and honestly the general good for everyone (not so selfishly.)

I was doing some pre-NCAA Tournament shopping today, buying the necessary ingredients for Long Island Ice Teas. Overheard a women asking for "60 proof flavored vodka". After her and the worker looked for a while, she mentioned that flavor wasn't a big deal.

I asked if she was making hand sanitizer. After she said yes, I explained how proof on alcohol works, and that in that particular store, she'd be best served getting the grain alcohol at the end of the aisle. She thanked me, and asked when I made mine, if I used anything for the skin cracking.

I had to explain that I never made it, but was rather familiar with alcohol and their strengths.

It may be the first time I've used things I learned in college in real-life.

Geez Louise Mike. You're old enough to apologize for being alive and that's impressive. Don't put yourself in any danger of anything, anytime, anywhere.
The narcissism that exists now Is eerily similar to what the good book taught us when the Internet didn't exist.... Good Luck ya old WV commoner. LOVE!
