Chess, not checkers. Jack knew what he was doing when he agreed to this while trying to preserve ND's independence a little longer.

We've made the 4 team playoff twice. He knows what this program's ceiling is, and decided #5 isn't a bad "ceiling" for the opening playoff round, with the trade off being no CCG weekend serving as our bye.
Plus there’s no guarantee that being in a conference even gets you that bye. We could just as easily have to play a CCG and then still play in the first round.

Ya, I agree...Sitting at home when UGA has to play BAMA and then go play Liberty at home while UGA is off....Only to win and then have to play someone like K State actually seems like a great spot.
Yep. Plus the #1 seed will probably have to play one of the best teams from the SEC or Big 10 who didn’t win the conference.

I think (and Staples alluded to) those two conferences recognize this and that’s why they are pushing for 14 teams, where the two seeds will be the only ones with a buy. Chances are it will be the winners of those conferences.

Then hows about those two conferences play their conference schedules: champion of each plays each in the jerk off bowl: call them super mega champions and then fuck right off so everyone else can have their damn sport back

Playoff projection if it started today. Hope they keep this system and Notre Dame can find themselves in the #5 position. Would be the easiest path to the semifinals.

They’re projecting 4 Big Ten, 3 SEC, and 2 ACC teams out of the 12

Oregon, OSU, IU, and Penn State could all end up with one loss if OSU can beat them all in the upcoming weeks.
I could see it happening.

Who gets in the ACC championship game if three of Clemson, Miami, SMU, or Pitt finish unbeaten.

SMU and Pitt play this week.

Pitt plays Clemson in a couple weeks.

If head to head doesn’t suffice, they look at opponent winning percentage

ESPN's All State playoff predictor has ND a 6 seed playing Tennessee if ND wins out.

Some flaws in their predictor because it has Army as a 9 seed in this scenario. But I desperately want to play Tennessee at home.

It also only took me 4 simulations to have ND winning the title. ND over Tennessee, ND over 3 seed Oregon, ND over Indiana in the semifinals, ND over Alabama in the championship. Someone get me some kool-aid.

Part of me hopes Miami loses a game or two and somehow ND gets them at home in December

but hosting Tennessee would be much more realistic and very fun.

I don't think an acc team will get in with two losses outside of a two loss conference champ. If Miami loses in acc title game and that's their only loss, they will probably get an at large bid. Would be hilarious watching them play in South bend in December.

I'd take Miami. They'd fair as well as FSU in the cold weather. Tennessee would be a fun win too, I just think they'd be a tougher opponent and I'd like an easy first round.

Tennessee is better overall but I'd trust Golden to be able to fuck with a freshman and make Nico see ghosts vs Cam Ward playing hero ball and finding a way to win.

LOL, in espn predictor is says pick the winner of ND's toughest remaining matchups... FSU game not an option but Virginia, Army, and USC are.
Suck it 'noles.
