Calipari won't get hit with anything major at UK. He doesn't need to do it.

Aside from some small-timey stuff that I've heard about that doesn't draw any solid connections to UK besides "oh wow what a coincidence," the sure-fire NBA future is the only tool he needs. That wasn't the case at UMass and Memphis.



Yup. He doesn't need to encourage forging names on ACTs or find agents for kids before they're on campus anymore.

Seriously, how do you think he was able to even get to the heights he did at damn Louisville, without being even dirtier? UK is one of those schools that sells itself when it comes to CBB and now that players KNOW that they will make it to the NBA, he barely has to try that hard.

Fallout from the investigation:

Simi S h i t t u (ND was heavily recruiting until recently) has canceled his Arizona official visit. Still planning on visiting Vanderbilt and North Carolina.

The way his recruitment dropped like a lead balloon was real fishy to me. Brey quickly went to plan B, IMO and Laz jumped at it. I have high confidence we have been doing it right but now also think we have been doing it smart. Sniff out those looking for cash handshakes and drop them fast.

What's even more fishy is that Kentucky dropped him at the same time, and instead offered a three star kid from Cincinnati. Now I get it that Jaxson Hayes may be underrated and Calapari sees something in him to make him offer, but you don't usually drop a top 10 talent to make that kind of offer.

I don't think Laz was ever plan B. We had room for both and would've continued pursuing both, but something happened that Brey decided S h i t t u was not a good fit.

That's why he's been 0 - La Lumiere. But he's got Irish alum and former team mgr Patrick Holmes leading LaLu now. I think that all starts to change. LaLu needs to be ND's feeder. Isaiah Stewart is a great place to start.

After this investigation, I think that there could be a LOT of coaching vacancies.

I'm starting to get concerned that some very very prestigious programs (with big money) will get hit through this investigation and many will have interest in Mike Brey (Mr. Clean). He is not only a good coach, but he would automatically bring a reputation of doing things the right way to what will be a messy situation.

While many (here and elsewhere) are legimately critical of Pitino, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Sadly, this type of behavior is pretty common and rampant in basketball. I have been coaching and connected to basketball and youth basketball for some time. Nothing surprising here.

A friend who is connected to some pro players, lots of college players and agents tells me virtually all of his agent friends are nervous because every one of them has been involved in some shady dealings in the past. Additionally, the list of college coaches that could be implicated is ridiculous and will likely include a list of blue blood programs in ACC and elsewhere. Everyone suspects programs like Louisville and Kentucky, but I am hearing the perceived clean coaches and programs are caught up in this as well.

Yup, I played on an AAU team based out of Chicago with some serious ballers. The wheeling and dealing that when on during those things were unreal.

No doubt. As soon as the story broke, there were quite a few rumors floating. I stated earlier that even Kentucky can't land all the 5 star kids year in and year out without something going on. As much success as Pitino had at UK, he never landed as many 5 star kids annually like Calipari. It's just a matter of time.

Discussing Pitino on the radio this morning. Pitino tells how he gets a call from an AAU coach (at the request of this 5 star recruit! lol) about this 5 star kid he should look at. Pitino then says the kid visited on his own dime and landed in Pitino's lap. Pitino says it was the luckiest recruitment he's ever had.
