It's all about setting up his son to take over the program when he leaves. Nepotism strikes again.

And that’s the part I really don’t get, for UNC.
I can maybe see Bill Belichick as a Deion Sanders-type moonshot. Sure, why not? But unless it ends poorly you’re then shackled to his son, who is nowhere near qualified for a job like that.

Belichick having a late-life crisis?

He thinks he’s gonna have a leg up on succeeding quickly with his plan for running the program like a pro franchise… but everyone is pretty much already doing that because of the portal and NIL.

I can almost guarantee all of the blue bloods (maybe even most P4 schools) already have plans of action ready for when salary caps, player contracts, and free agency periods are implemented.

Does this mean BB wasn't going to be in the running for an NFL job? I find that bizarre. I assumed Cowboys, Giants, etc. Or Jacksonville.

I’ll watch. The guy is a helluva defensive coach. If he hires Rees look out!

This is the recruiting pitch...

"If I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL," Belichick said. "It would be a professional program: training, nutrition, scheme, coaching and techniques that would transfer to the NFL."

He concluded a lengthy portrait of what the program would look like by saying: "It would be an NFL program, but not at the NFL level."

From the ESPN article.

I have to believe playing for a legend like Bill would be pretty damn cool.
Doubtful, even for hall of famers. There are hundreds of stories about him from former players. His reputation is holding everyone (including Tom Brady) to the same standard every day and having no hesitation in chewing people out in front of the team.

Home run "higher"? JFC.

Dan Mullen gets as far west from the south as he could. This doesn't seem like a destination, though these days, WTF knows.
