They're a basketball school.

This would bring a lot of attention to them and their program. The PR alone would make it a circus.
I get why they'd hire Bill. I don't know why they'd do a coach-in-waiting deal with his son, who has one year of college coaching experience, running a defense that gave up 40 points to Iowa.

Though I suppose it would be simple enough to undo.

They are a program who has won the ACC five times, most recently in 1980 and their most successful coach other than Mack Brown is a man named Dick Crum.

It should also be noted that their athletic director is Bubba Cunningham, he of 40 year decision status of a Notre Dame alum.

We're living in the dumbest of times, man. Everyone is trying to do what they can to win and get ahead. Belichick is an NFL HOF HC. If you can get him and have to guarantee his son gets to take over, why not do it if you're a basketball school?

Is UNC a basketball school? I can swear I’ve heard that somewhere. Repeatedly.

Or, ya know, they could hire a sharp young comer who'd recruit the hell out of their large and deeply-talented state and build a team capable of winning 10+ games a year in their extremely mid conference. They literally just last week fired the "big name coach on the downslope of his career." Now they want another?

Belichick is/was a genius but managing a modern college football roster/locker room does not seem likely to be his strong suit. And if his first move is to demand a job for his son - who himself has minimal experience in college football or doing anything other than working for his dad - that doesn't suggest Belichick recognizes that.

Whatever. Like you said, dumb times.

I don't disagree. Not the move I'd make.

If Sumrall leaves Tulane and fails, it's another Larry Fedora hire. If he leaves and succeeds, a bigger football program is going to come calling for him.

UNC hiring Belichick is more of a Coach Prime hire than a pragmatic one.

It could also be a smoke screen to get Sumrall to move to commit to taking the job. Who knows.

If you’re UNC and you have the chance to hire Belichick, you do it.

Worst case is the move doesn’t pan out and you have 2-3 down years (basically where you are now). Best case it’s Deion on steroids.

absolute no brainer.

I’m also of the mind that Belichick would win 8 games purely on coaching alone.

If it turns out he can recruit? There’s no ceiling to what he can do for 4-5 years there.

Talks are still ongoing for a restructured contract.
I thought this was odd from the article below. We want you to remain here and take a pay cut through a restructured contract. If you don't take the pay cut, we will potentially seek to fire for cause. Strange.

If Gundy doesn’t agree to a restructured deal, the Cowboys could fire him for cause, Thamel reported. He is owed more than $25 million if fired without cause.

Man OSU has a shitload of capital available to succeed in this era of cfb. Gundy is hilarious and has given us some great soundbites over they years…but he’s a dinosaur in the coaching ranks.

If he’s not a fan of NIL, hard to see him being able to acclimate. OSU might’ve been better moving on.

Chuck Martin to Purdue is a real possibility and Deland would be the replacement at Miami, per John Brice today.

Huh. That has a real Jim Coletto vibe to it.
I thought Brian Griese would be the move, and frankly, it’s a better move than Martin, but hey… Purdue gonna Purdue

Purdue doesn’t actually make their own decisions, they just look at what people are doing around them and copy it if it’s successful.

Oh, Notre Dame hired a young, charismatic, defensive-minded African American coach?

Ryan Walters.

Oh, IU hired an older, established, veteran coach who has built and maintained a program and his first name also starts with a C?

Chuck Martin.

The Marshall/Southern Miss situation has been done for a while. LOL. Wasn't exactly hiding in plain sight.
