I get they’re only playing Chattanooga this week but seems unlikely he’d fly there on a Wednesday. Doubt Wednesday is their off day

Would be damn funny if after their beef Saban took the A&M job and won a championship with the players Jimbo bought. Ultimate flex. I know that’s nog happening but just having fun.

There's no chance Saban would be ok with a mid week private trip to interview for a coaching job before the end of the regular season right?

The cult is going to hate that if he’s the guy.
They will, but it would actually be a very solid hire in the football sense of things. He's spent his entire life in Texas other than two years as an assistant at Arkansas. He knows ball and knows the state. They have a great deal of talent down there.

The cult won't have the foresight to realize that he's going to have a lot more resources at his disposal should TAMU hire him.

I think Saban was closer to joining Texas than people realize. At the end of the day, didn't he get a significant raise around that time with Bama?
IIRC, he got the raise when he returned. Bama was smart enough to know what they had and was willing to blow the door off the bank vault.

Didn't Saban lose all kinds of money from the Great Recession and use Texas as leverage to get a raise from Alabama in order to start covering his losses? It was a case of The Recession coupled with some very bad investments and such really hammering Saban financially?

I seem to recall hearing about Alabama assuming a lot of his debt and even paying his mortgage because he'd gotten Texas to agree to it?

100%! Traylor is a kumbaya get around the camp fire type of coach who is very well liked in TX because he bends the knee to HS coaches and their union or whatever they have. All of this means nothing to your average TAMU booster they'll want a big, big name or a guy like this

Traylor is incredibly well liked in Texas Football coaching circles from high school and college. He started out there, he understands the importance of fostering relationships with those coaches. So did Mack Brown, and he's not a native Texan, but it was the first thing he did when he got to Austin. Start building relationships with the HS coaches. It worked for him for quite a while.

I don't quite understand what you mean about camp fire and bending the knee. Traylor started out as a Texas HS coach and had a pretty good 14 year run. Now will the A.D. have issues convincing their board and boosters to trying to hire Traylor? Most definitely. Realizing times have changed since RC Slocum and even Mack Brown, Traylor having widespread respect among the coaching community in Texas is not at all a bad thing considering Jimbo Fisher was said to have not.

Hes a program culture kind of coach but TAMU is a program that wants to bring in 5 star studs, get them productive, ignore their indiscretions and they know they'll head to the NFL and then they'll replace them with more 5 star studs and repeat the cycle. If they get Traylor and he's to coach the way he always has, they'd be looking at a major clean out and a cultural rebuild taking probably 2-3 seasons. I just dont see TAMU having the patience for that. They'll want to win now.

Pittman retained at Arkansas. Was some question if he was going to be axed or not.

According to what I've heard, this 1000% has to do with them reaching out to Rhett Lashlee and him telling them "no thanks."

The problem with this? It hasn't worked for them! A&M needs a complete culture rebuild. Traylor qualifies as checking that box, as would Elko.

I think A&M's best possible hire is DeBoer. But Traylor would be a very solid consolation prize.

It's not, though.

Facilities, conference, history, and potential all lean in MSU's favor. MSU went to a CFP in the last decade. Duke, even under the best circumstances, probably doesn't get close.

Duke doesn't have to play Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State every year. You can feast in the ACC, and if not... you're Duke.

I suppose it depends on if it’s seemed as a lateral move or slightly upgraded from Duke. Is it a move you make now, hope you improve MSU in short enough order while waiting for a big job to open? Or hang tight, slowly improve Duke, and still wait?
