When he was at Oregon, a lot of conversation about his bachelor lifestyle. Bars, strip clubs, etc. A regular I don’t give AF attitude along with it.
I hadn't seen anything about this, but it was more having to do with his coaching style and personality day to day with play calling, delegating, etc.

There was no way he was going to make it in the NFL. He's said to be a lot like ....Harbaugh.

I’m a big Dan Campbell fan and the NFL feels perfect for him.
He’s gotten a lot of love for what he could be in CFB. I know Andy Staples said as much but admitted he had no idea if there would be an interest on his part.

Looks like the Northwestern job is filled. Not much of a surprise.

To me, this is another example of the logic by which GP got his job.

Before I am offering anyone a contract, I have to ask the question "Would this guy land any other job other than mine?". If the answer is no, then you clearly dont have the best candidate.

Michigan State is a much harder job to sell when Michigan is doing well.

NW fans are seemingly ecstatic over the Braun hire but is really no one but Fitzgerald being let go after the hazing crap? No one else at fault?

I can only imagine that helps Pat’s case. And just a crazy way to burn bridges with a guy that is attached to the only times your program has been successful.

What about when Michigan is about to get hammered by sanctions?
Yea, but I’m sure must want to see that shoe fall first. Right now you’ve got Michigan, OSU, and ND all recruiting and playing well. Not the time to pick up a job at a school that wants to compete for conference titles…and they’re adding more competition!

MSU is about to bat ~7th in recruting in the Big 10 once Oregon, USC, maybe even UCLA come to town.

If we're talking Elko, he'd be selling himself short by going there. He's pretty deep into his career age wise.

I agree, and time will tell, but once he got to this point the sense among local people was he'd get the job. Now he has.

They're doing what they need to do in the short term considering where this all was four months ago. We'll see how he does a couple of years down the line. He really fell into this job in the end due to timing and circumstance.

Probably batting 5th behind Clemson, Miami, FSU, North Carolina. Maybe Louisville too, but that's probably close to even.

No sense in taking a further back seat in a new conference where you have to re-invest all your energy and be there until you're 50, when you'll very likely get better interest than MSU now if you want.

247 class rankings (we know you love your 247 rankings) had Duke with the 10 rated ACC class and were one of 5 schools to not sign a 4 star player. They were ranked 8th in ACC in 2022 and are currently ranked 8th for 2024.

If I was an AD right now, this is who I'd be going after. Impressive work at Kansas no less.
Same. Look at everything that happened there after Mangino left prior to Leipold arriving. It's a basketball school where winning at football has proven to be extremely difficult. Mangino won 50 games there and he's one of their most successful football coaches in the history of the school.

The guy can coach ball and wins games wherever he goes. A lot of these schools have done far worse.

I think Leipold, Chadwell and Traylor are the three guys I'd want to interview if I was an A.D. looking for a coach.

It’s almost certainly not for Tommy, but it’s a funny thought because Aggie fans think it’s Saban.
I remember when the Texas Longhorns were looking for a new coach around Charlie Strong's hire, there was a lot of buzz that they were going to throw "fuck you" money at Saban. Not sure if Saban just did this to visit a recruit or up his next contract, but the Longhorn fans started tracking a flight out of Tuscaloosa to Austin and they lost their fuckin' minds  Nothing came of it, of course.

If you want to use 2023 and 2024 classes to determine who east first, MSU averages 10th in Big 10 over those two years. Like you said, Duke is 8th.

So why, at 47, when he's a hot commodity would he go to a lateral-at best situation, recruiting wise in regards to the conference he'll be competing in.

Coaching changes take serious energy, you have to shake all the hands and kiss all the babies all over again. And you have to lock in because you are resetting your resume (if he tanks at MSU, no one's going to say "well he was real good that one year at Duke!").

Would be shocked if he'd be interested in MSU given he's near the top of the wanted lists and there appear to be some major openings coming.

Sparty was recruiting pretty well until Mel Tucker made himself extremely unpopular, 4th in both 2022 and 2023 Big Ten rankings, per 247. MSU has had some pretty big booster support in the past few years, curious to see if they can get that back with a new HC.

I think that is the realistic list... but the advantage of getting a head start on the competition is to start from the top and see if throwing around millions cant shake someone unexpected loose.

Although I have no reason to say this... but I think TAMU manages to land someone like Dabo or Mike Norvell. I didnt believe LSU would land a big fish until BK was halfway out the door. Money talks...

I think Saban was closer to joining Texas than people realize. At the end of the day, didn't he get a significant raise around that time with Bama?

Not sure A&M is going at this the right way, why throw tons of money around trying lure a new coach over when you have these aces up your sleeve.
